A .40 pistol with hollowpoint rounds if possible, a medium-sized axe for chopping heads, and an AR-15/57 with plenty of rubber bands for full-auto fire.
But then, if it's winter, the zombies would be frozen corpsicles anyway, being that I live in Alaska.

Each and every person in my famiy is capable of fielding a rifle and pistol. Team wienie has a converted a Ruger into a nice antiaircraft style gun platform. Unfortunately TBone doesn't see well...

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

I have a very effective plan that involves holding out until winter to swat frozen zombies, but I can't tell it to any of you guys.... for all I know, you'll be visiting Nodak when it happens, and you could turn into a zombie, then knowing my plans!
I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

If a zombie apocalypse occurs, and your primary weapon is an AR pattern rifle, there are going to be plenty of burst/auto lowers laying around. Keep the rubber bands to help secure your bandaids or something.
Gimme my LE6940 and G35, my plate carrier, and far more importantly, a functioning off-road vehicle with some extra gas. I'm going to the desert with a enough supplies to last till the zombies starve.

In all seriousness, if the dead begin to walk, I've got guns, a car, ammo, and I'm taking them all to my uncle's hunting lodge in Alabama. Its the most remote place I have access to and in case of emergency there will be guns covering all sides!
Full auto shotgun(spaetnaz style), 15lb sledgehammer for bashing in skulls, and my best friends cottage out in the middle of Georgian Bay. Bring enough food an water to hold out for a season and then reclaim a small city and live like a mongolian warlord.

And guys, if there is any evidence of zombies, we meet up in Anchorage Alaska. Deal? I don't want to be stuck with my family, or the neighbors. I'll bring party favors and wimmins.
Plans to meet with friends and board up a particular house with supplies. Personal weapons will be a broom and roofing hammer. Nail in some boards on the stairs and just push 'em back with the broom. Too close? Cave in a skull. Overrun - escape route and back up plan to another house we have scoped out.

This would be me...just replace the brazilian baddies with ragezombies.
....it'll be a shame when those ragezombies get that plasma blaster technology though. I suppose it's the price one pays for being a SEXUAL TYRANNOSAURUS...just like me.

Against rage zombies - perhaps some kind of AFV - protection and hiding from zombies, enough space (kinda) to store food and so on for a couple of months or so, and possibly remote control weapons so you can shoot without being exposed if you get swamped. That way I can hopefully outlast the rage virus humans.
I don't know what you Brits have for AFV's, but you're not stockpiling anything in a Bradley. I'm not even sure how infantry piles into those things...
If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

Good thing I only live three hours from there.
@guy with all the guns
Now that's preparation! I am seriously impressed, sir!

Check out the question in the OP - you can pick anything you want
@ Dragearen: thank you. The above is the product of about 8 years worth of careful planning and collecting.
@ KingCracker: Indeed. What I don't have pictured, is my Dillon progressive reloading setup. Depending on the load, I can pump out around 600-1000 rounds and hour. Some take much more time then others due to quality control and setup.
Also which range? I have access to 3 within a 30-40 min drive from me. My one friend has a pistol/short range out to 100 yrds with a covered shooting shack for year round access. My other friend has what he calls his carbine range... out to 300 yards. And then there is the "public" range that someone built in the middle of the woods in no mans land that goes up a hill out to 500 yards.

JP's posting pictures of his "babies" again, every time he does I just want to kiss my computer screen...
Of course this is why I've said for some time that JP will be one of the folks I'll be searching to link up with when the proverbial gak hits the fan...
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

LoL.
The sad part of the matter, is that my safe no longer has any room inside of it and I have guns stacked up in hard cases leaning up against it... and I still know people that put my collection to shame by sheer volume.
One problem I do see with that many firearms, is if someone were to break in, you might take to long figuring out just how awesome you want to look to the cops when they show up to take away the corpse of a former burgler

Oh my god! This is already happening in the UK! All the braindead zombies are looting our shops! There is lawlessness everywhere! Hopefully they will all stave to death soon. As for the zombie problem - I think 'The Man' Bruce Campbell has got this one licked - chainsaw and car with huge rotating blades on the front (See 'Army of Darkness' for reference).

Naw, The choice for first grab home protection is a no brainer....12 Gauge all the way.
For every job there is the "proper tool".

9mm pistol with 3 clips, fire axe and a suit of armour.
Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.
Garrus Vakarian: Uh, I was there when you two had your thing, remember? Just get a room and work it out.

12 gauge indeed for zombies.
However, their is something to be said about style points when it comes to home invaders....

Your sidearm and CC weapon are fine, but IMO Plate Armor ( which I assume is what you mean by " suit of armor") would be far to cumbersome and drastically limit your mobility, while not offering as much protection as you may believe...
It would be far to easy to find oneself knocked over while wearing heavy plate and overwhelmed by a horde of hungry zombies...who through sheer persaverance would eventuly pull you apart.
