@Laughing Man: The red's quite a rich metallic, but as the bulk of the unit aren't done to competition standard, just character, the metals aren't blended to high contrast NMM style, as they are on the chapter master. The gloss does kill the highlights a bit, but it's more that the colour isn't shaded deep against the highlights that makes it look flat.

I think that metallic red is spot on, I love it. A lot of minis have too much contrast, too much highlighting and they end up looking cartoonish. This is really well done.

Been working from blue to white now, but I like them more this way.

@Deefect: Codex grey base, highlight up with fortress grey, then add skull white to the mix. Work up to about 60-40 white / fortress grey. Just use pure white for very extreme highlights and chipping / weathering.
