Unfortunately with the cooperation with fantasy flight games I think we'll be very lucky to see a warhammer quest remake, it's too similar to their own dungeon crawlers.

Saying that though, the money I shelled out on a copy of the original game and the custom made expansions I had produced looks like a safe bet for another year at least.

Love that game

So I'm guessing that, like with Space Hulk, GW needed to put something out to protect their IP. Anyone know how long it's been since Man O' War was last published?

But, hey... I can't wait to see a Federated States of America fleet square off against a High Elf fleet! Paddle wheelers versus sails! Tiny fliers versus Dragon Riders!!!

Or not... I'll be giving this one a pass.

Lost in Australia, somewhere.

Why can't GW spend the time and resources to release more of the Space Hulk figures? I'd actually buy those.

I would look at it another way- if this succeeds, GW will know that there is still interest in their naval systems. Which means that we may get another gem like Battlefleet Gothic. I view it as an alpha of Battlefleet Armaggedon, which could be released a year after 6th to tie in a worldwide campaign with a new Black Templar and Ork Codex!

Ok, that's not likely to happen. But imagine how awesome it would be.

Not likely due to the fact that would probably be a good idea.

I would look at it yet another way. Perhaps GW has seen the rising popularity and success of Spartan Games naval games and have decided that it's time for them to try and get a piece of that pie. Cynical? Paranoid? Moi? Perhaps. Certainly bitter. But I can't help but feel that this might be the case.

I honestly don't understand the bile coming at this release from some posters. I'm not particularly interested, but I'm not going to say it's a bad idea or anything, boats just aren't my thing.

With all of the other ship games out there?

This is too little, too late.

Nice to see some John Blance style artwork again. It has been too long.

Man of War refit would have been a better option then this turd.

Fan dabby dozy, now if someone in GW can just make a new box of BFG I'll be less miserable. Always wanted to get into BFG but you're looking at £120-£150 (even more in the colonies) to get a decent fleet. All in metal? Please. MAKE BFG! It would tie so well with my planetary empires map.

Sadly, this will probably be another Battlefleet Gothic - great value basic set with plastic models, appallingly expensive metal-only (now would be Finecast instead) models for everything else, gets three months attention in WD then is abandoned and forgotten.

For Space Hulk, that didn't matter, as it was standalone and the models could be used elsewhere. But a naval game like this would seem to only make sense as an intro set to a full new fantasy game/rules system, which GW have been carefully avoiding for quite some time.

Probably the most important point to consider is that we still don't have any real factual verification (other than that hint of an advert in WD) that this even exists. Who are the sources involved (please bear in mind that I'm new here and unfamiliar with faces/names, etc) and how does anyone know if they're verifiably accurate, even?

I think the key variables for whether or not this supposed game release will see big success depend on whether the game parts could be used in other ways (ala SH 3rd ed.) and whether you get a lot of cool bling for your money, and (quite simply) whether or not the actual game is any good and/or fun!

Fantasy Flight do not hold the license for miniature driven games. They only have card games, boardgames and RPG games. Whilst Quest is a mixture of both boardgame and RPG - it would still rely on miniatures to play - same as Blood Bowl (I know because I asked them). GW should be releasing Quest IMO - if they wanted to push Fantasy so much it would make sense as it would use models from the majority of the range and the beasties for Storm of Magic, the single plastic characters were a hopeful sign for me (single plastic warriors etc) but, alas, it looks like a naval wargame instead

I'm curious to see the game, but no more than that. It seems like a strange decision but I'm glad to see them release something different - I just wish it was Quest, Necromunda, BFG, Gorkamorka - basically a Man O War style naval game was bottom of the pile for me

They should have revitalised Battlefleet Gothic.

A great many more people play 40k than play fantasy and a good number of those would have been persuaded to pick up a fleet based on their army or another force.

This 'all in one box' game is very uninspiring. Can't say I can muster up much interest at all about it.

I'm not sure what to make of this. I can just about see this as cashing in on Pirates of the Caribbean but it doesn't strike me as something I'd buy. As many have said Space Hulk had some usability outside the board game but this seems like a daft idea when compared to something like Blood Bowl that still has a big following. I'd put down money for BB but not for this. I'd rather invest in Warhammer Fantasy and 40k.

Of course that's assuming all of the rumors are true. A very odd possibility would be to make a fantasy version of Space Hulk with ghost ships rather than Space Ships in 28mm scale. That might be more fun.

I could in theory be totally all over this. I'm keen on a naval game, like what I expect will be the Empire boat aesthetic, LOVE the high elf boat aesthetic, and I am on the lookout for a self-contained naval game box that I could buy and then play with friends who don't collect miniatures. And I don't much care for the look of Uncharted Seas's models.

But unfortunately, the GW no-information policy that makes FLGSs not order many boxes is the same reason I absolutely refuse to pre-order anything from GW. So we're at a catch-22. I will only consider it if I can see it in my hands and have time to think about it. It's a limited release so likely stores don't want to keep it on hand.

The fact that your asking this question proves that your new. You see the way GW marketing machine "works" is that they sprinkle us with hints and other such insubstancial information, this then gets mixed in with a LOT of rumours, wishlisting and nonsense until we reach the point where no one even remembers who, what or how this information came into being and what is and isn't true untill finally GW put us all straight using their website or white dwarf. Hopes this clears the mud up somewhat. Thats how it works in general.

So to your original question we don't actually have any factual information past what is on the first topic by the OP Kroothawk.

Agree. I would be highly interested in a naval game, in 10mm Empire ships, in Elven Ships, and a self contained game box... but unless I know more, I can not pre-order, and if I do not pre-order, I may not get the game... so sort of a problem there. I would have impulse bought Hulk after handling some of the figures, except that every copy in the FLGS was sold.

Ya gotta agree here SRM. I will not buy it, am not interested, but I won't gak on it just based on that. Sure it would have been cool had it been something I was interested in, but that has nothing to do with it being good quality product or not, or whether others will like it. Will just have to wait and see to give an opinion on the game.

BFG and Bloodbowl are also niche in their way, and had they been released, I am sure a few Man'O'War die-hards would have been ticked too.

Who knows guys, this may end up being surprisingly cool! The setting may not be our cup of tea, but the actual execution of the game, fun-factor and models could still be awesome enough to make us interested despite ourselves... who knows? Did any of us expect DE to be unmitigated awesome-sauce and the 2nd most popular army in the game after Marines*? I didn't!

* That is the impression I get, and also what I seemed to note in some stats, but I may be wrong, but the point remains more or less intact lol
