That is cool though, since they easily could have just said "No, it's just the box, why does it matter?", but they're actually gonna go through the trouble of shipping a new empty box to you because the old one is damaged. It's a limited edition empty box though, so anything less would have been unacceptable, really.

Yeah, I was worried I'd have to argue it. Don't want to sound too effusive, but it's a really nice box - much more solid that any others I've seen. It must have taken a real knock to damage it. The main issue, as I pointed out on the phone, is that it's clearly a collector's item (and marketed as such), and so box condition is important. Also, as it's sold as a complete game, you do need to box to transport it. I didn't have to push the point at all.

It's a good job I didn't want to keep it sealed. After all, GW could probably have said no to a complete replacement. A new box makes it fit for purpose. Just hope the new one's not damaged.

And lesson for the future - collect in store from now on; let's face it, it's probably the delivery company that have damaged it.

Local gamers are reviewing it as BFG lite or BFG streamlined. Is that about right?

Nope. Apart from being limited to turning 45 degrees at a time and having fire arcs there's really not much in common, and most naval games have that.

The statlines, dice mechanics, damage, special orders... are all completely different.

Yes, although I admit that thought it was genuine when I first saw it. I think there's at least an element of this in everyone who posts on forums like this, however much we'd hate to think we'd ever look that grotesque.

The sprues on the website aren't really scaled next to anything? Anyone know?

HAs anyone actually played the game enough to describe its gameplay - is it fun? That's all I really want to know - is the game fun, will I play it.

I'm pretty sure I saw a Dreadfleet AAR while browsing the Battle Report section of DAkka (WHFB I think), I didn't read it as I would like to find out myself.

Very nice sculpts

The Heldenhammer is a bee-hotch to get to stay together without glue though, so i'd best paint her first.

Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...

Small book? Well, seems fun. Small book, 9 ships, 12 terrain pieces, 50 cards and a placemat. For 90 euros. Cheap man. Worth the mony.

€90,- for that seems NM. I prefer IoB with say 80 models for €78

I wouldn't call it a small book as it clocks in at 97 pages, full colour and of the same quality as other SG rulebooks, nor is the mat included a "placemat" but a good quality and nicely sized cloth mat. Also, it has ten ships.

Is Uncharted Seas better than Dread Fleet?

Very subjective, especially since they seem to be very different kinds of games, despite both being naval combat. Uncharted seas is a 'hobby game' where each player is expected to build and paint their own fleet, while Dreadfleet is a bit more 'traditional' in that it includes all components (albeit it is expected that the owner will get the pieces assembled and painted).

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

How do you compare apples vs oranges? They are two different games. If you read the designer's note in White Dwarf, you realize the Dreadfleet is never intended to be a traditional naval game. In fact, it is closer to a dungeon brawl with a group of adventurers competing with another group for a price in a fantasy realm filled with random events and wandering monster. The only difference is that in Dreadfleet you use ships instead. Uncharted Seas on the other hand is more like a traditional naval game with a fantasy twist into it.

There are enough complaints about Dreadfleet having too much randomness to it. If you understand what the game designer is trying to do, one can only criticize the game for not having enough random events instead.

The other main critic is that it is a one-time game. So what! Look at WHFB or 40K. With GW's effective marketing strategy, either you put in more money to keep up with the new updates of army book, rules and new figures, or, you give up. Not really a bad thing.

Stopped past my local GW yesterday. Unsurprisingly, they still have tons of copies of DF in store. Not quite Space Hulk in terms of sales, obviously..

My store still had three of them when I stopped in earlier. I think they originally got five of them.

I almost thought about buying it, but the price continuously puts me off, and after reading some reviews I'm not sure I'd like it. The last thing I'd want to do is waste over $100 on a game and never play it past the first unboxing. I've barely touched Space Hulk since I bought it, and that was a good game.

Went to the grand opening of GW Burnaby today (British Columbia, Canada) and played Dreadfleet.

I was pretty skeptic at first but honestly, it's great. I'm ordering my box ASAP, reminds me of Gothic but better because it runs much smoother. The ships look great, have hilarious abilities and lore behind them, this was a product I didn't see coming from GW and I'm pleasantly surprised.

Anybody know where I can find a complete rulebook for download though?
