Ok so time for an update.
I'm still working on the Cult but have been a little distracted since Christmas (Skyrim and Phoenix Wright are who I blame).
I've only recently found time to work on the Cult and my projects aren't in full swing yet but I thought I'd post what I'm up to in case people are interested / could help out.
My first project was to make a bike and sidecar for the Hybrid I sculpted. I bought a Space Marine scout bike frame and trimmed down the mud guards (or whatever the things that sit above the wheels are called) and removed some of the Space Marine motifs to make it look less bulky and a little more 'civilian' (or at least less Space Marine like). Unfortunately, the project hit a bit of a wall when I realised I couldn't make wheels for the bike. Does anyone know a good supplier of wheels that will work with the Space Marine Scout bike that I can get in bulk (or at least better than £1 a wheel + postage)?
I then decided to make a start on this guy:
Anyone who's tried to buy the throned Patriarch on eBay has seen how much they can go for. I was fortunate enough to find this one at a decent price but he was without a throne.
I'd been planning on making a throne for the Patriarch since I got it but wasn't sure how to go about making one. I wasn't too hot on the one that the Patriarch was supposed to come with and was having difficulty finding a suitable replacement. After a while though, I found this image on Google which inspired me with a design for the throne:
The curved design and organic feel to it made me think of making a 'pod' like throne based upon the old, curved Genestealer backs.
At the moment I've only managed the frame to the throne:
The next stop will be building it up out of milliput and sanding it down to a smooth, egg like shape.
Thats if nothing else distracts me...
(Sorry for the massive photos, not sure what's causing that).

So I've done some more work on the throne, mainly just getting its basic shape constructed. Here's some shots I took from my phone to give an idea of how it is looking so far:
I'm using the super fine Miliput to construct it and despite mixing it quite well (at least as well as I would with greenstuff) and leaving it to harden for over a day, sometimes it doesn't harden properly - enough to be able to be squashed and indented with fingers. Has anyone else used this and could explain where I'm going wrong with it as it means I cannot smooth it down and get the finish I'd quite like?
Also, I haven't really been working on my throne much as I decided to start building this over the Easter weekend:
There's going to be 3 levels of ruined floors, I've just not assembled them whilst I'm painting it.
I think I might start putting a few more pieces of scenery on here if people are interested.
(Again sorry for the images, these were taken from my phone and I forgot to scale them).

Some nice stuff here. The hybrid sculpt was very impressive for a first attempt - kudos for that.
Liking the egg-throne so far.
Think with the milliput it's just a question of mixing it - isn't the superfine comprised of 2 white components, making it really hard to tell when it's fully mixed?
No idea on who has the cheapest wheels, but if you fancy scratch-building some:

Thanks for the link to the wheels, I've actually ordered these wheels from Ramshackle games http://shop.ramshacklegames.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_27&products_id=48 but I'm not sure if they're the correct size - if not I'll give that tutorial a go (and use the Ramshackle ones for scenery).
Yeah both parts of the superfine are white and I thought I had mixed them well but obviously not well enough.
And in case anyone is interested, I'm in the final stages of painting my ruin so pictures for that might surface soon.

I received a nice batch of Cult related gifts through the mail today.
The ship which the Patriarch landed in:
This chap (after a repaint and some conversion work) will make a nice hybrid:
And here are the wheels I ordered for my bikes:
They're roughly the same size as the Marine bike wheels but only one sided so I'm going to have to apply some greenstuff work to it to make them look right on my bikes.
I also received some 'safety floor' plasticard that looks a bit like this:
Took me ages to find some of this stuff as its quite hard to find out what its actually called (I found it here: http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/slaters-single-tread-plate-in-grey-scale-1-50.html).
I also finished off my ruin:
It was pretty easy to make and used stuff I had about my house (the only things I needed to buy were filler and some fresh paint.
Hope you like it.

So with my delivery of wheels in the mail, I decided to put the throne on the back burner and make a start on my bike and sidecar for my Hybrid (the one I sculpted).
Since I wanted to make it more civilian and less like Imperial Guard on Space Marine bikes, I trimmed off parts of the bike and removed the Space Marine symbols. Since I was also too cheap to buy the Scout Bike wheels (they're £1 + postage for a wheel on eBay) I used the resin wheels which were unfortunately too big and wide.
The sidecar will be made from a 2nd edition Imperial Guard Sentinel (currently soaking in Dettol) and the Wheel from an attack bike.
The driver is at the moment just made from some Catachan pieces. I'll need to do some greenstuff work on him too to make him look a bit more like a biker.
Its looking very rough at the moment, Once the greenstuff has hardened, I'll give it all a coat of black paint so I can see where the majority of the work is needed.
Unfortunately though the wheels that I bought I don't think are fit for use for the rest of the bikers (I think I can just about deal with it for this as its a one off piece) so I'm going to have to search eBay for a deal on wheels...

Thanks for the link! I've sent off an email to them enquiring whether they know if their wheels fit Scout bikes and are double sided. If they are I think I'll be ordering them for the rest of the squad.
I've also ordered a load of the sentinel searchlights to go on my bikes for their head lamps and need to plan out some work regarding the handlebars so major work on the sidecar is going to come to a pause for now.
Since the last update though I've improved the rider a little to make him fit the bike better (still need to do the major sculpting work on him though). I've also make the bike's speedometer out of the side of the Cadian comm-link and a cocktail stick and attached the old sentinel cockpit as the sidecar, though I'm a little concerned that it might sit a little too wide (also, all that metal might mean its thin fixture breaks pretty easily).
Close up of the handlebars so far:
Mock up of the rest of the bike (its sitting on a wheel whilst the greenstuff cures):

They are, and they do It's the 19mm wheels you want for bikes
Comparison shot:
Is it just GS for the join between sidecar and bike or have you pinned it?

I've ordered myself 10 of those wheels to use on the rest of the bikes.
The sidecar is just held with greenstuff and super glue and seems to be strong enough. I think if its not I'll base it too as I'm not sure if I have the tools to pin it

I got my first delivery of Searchlights yesterday and managed to find some time both last night and this morning to get a little work done. Unfortunately I didn't find time to take any good photos so phone camera will have to suffice:
Sorry for the size, I didn't have time to scale them.
I've finished the handlebars (bar any cleanup work), added a headlight and tidied up the wheel on the sidecar. Something not shown on the picture was that I've started work on turning one of my spare wheels into stowage (which I will add along with some other stuff to make the bike look less efficient).
I think the bike part of the bike and sidecar is pretty much complete with the sidecar just needing the aforementioned stowage and tidying up the underside a little. I also need to do some work regarding the interior of the sidecar to make the passenger fit better. Ideas include sculpting robes or a blanket for the hybrid or adding in a padded interior.
I also need to finish the rider and adjust the hybrid to fit in the sidecar better (as his arms don't fit with the sides).

Thanks! Despite how long I've had some of the figures, it was only after seeing other people's work in the past couple of years that spured me on to work on the Cult - I loved the backstory for the Cult in 2nd edition but first played with the 3rd edition Journal Rules (which are now sadly underpowered and overpriced). It would be nice if GW saw some of the amazing work the other guys on here and other forums have done and bring back their rules.
Anyway, enough waffle and onto the main feature.
I've finished the main construction work on the bike and sidecar (bar touching up features etc) and am pretty close to start painting work on it.
I've had to separate the sidecar from the body of the bike so things might look a little crooked in these pictures.
As you can see in this image, the Hybrid's arms have been reattached, this was done as I cut down the sides of the sidecar.
I decided to use one of the resin wheels here (well one and a half plus some greenstuff work) to line it up with the rest of the wheels.
Originally I wanted to have this spare wheel attached with some straps but I couldn't make them look good so instead I opted to use a metal bracket created out of some stiff wire.
And here's the trimmed down cockpit with some greenstuff padding.
Next stop is painting it all black (apart from the Hybrid) to find any imperfections with the greenstuff. The rider will also need to be done at a later date.

Thanks! I'm currently about a third of the way through painting it now, doing it Shadow Grey to match the Landspeeder and Imperial Guard that they will be fighting with.
I've also done a little more on the rider, mainly filing his beefy arms down so I can put some sleeves on him and adding his hands.
In other news, my wheels arrived in the mail for the rest of the cult bikers / Imperial Guard Rough Riders that I am working on. However, that is another post for another time...

Thought its time for an update since I've just finished painting my sidecar (not the bike, just the sidecar). The rider is almost complete too, just needing his sleeves and some detail work finishing.
I've also started painting a Space Marine Captain (Red) to break up the amount of Shadow Grey I've been painting recently so the bike might take a little longer to appear.
And here's the shots:
Hope you like it so far...

Yeah, the metal ones are about £8-£9 a pop and that's not including delivery. If you're eBaying, try to look for a seller with multiple sales so you can combine postage. The plastic ones are a little cheaper but a bit more basic (and sharklike).
One alternative I did try was cutting up the old genestealers and mixing them with some Catachan parts, these would look a little more like the plastic ones.
In other news, I've finished the greenstuff work on my rider and just need to wait for it to cure (the blue / yellow mix was more on the yellow side so it might take a while).

I've just finished the driver for the sidecar and thought I'd post it up for show as there weren't any WIP shots of it. This one is basically just a Catachan with a good amount of greenstuff work on it - best of all, the legs needed no work doing to them as they fit the bike perfectly.
Here's the rider:
and here's the rider on the WIP bike:
It was also my first time using the new Citadel paints as I had to get rid of my 15 year old Bronzed Flesh :(.
I've also realised I've got a ton of Imperial Guard and other Genestealer bits to paint so the more complex stuff like the Patriarch's throne and the other bikers might take a while to materialise.

The biker came out very nicely!
I'm really enjoying seeing an active Cult being built. I used to play one in 2nd Ed and by far it was my most competitive list. I do not know the reason behind GW not updating Cult rules in later editions, but I'm sure it's lame.

Is it that GW gets rid of all its cool and unusual armies - or is it that by getting rid of these armies GW has made them cool and unusual? Either way they are cool.
Do you think they would let you play with 2nd edition rules and lists in a GW shop? Or is that too much to ask.

I'm clinging onto the hope that since they're starting to revisit some Rogue Trader era stuff (like the Jokaero) they might release a Cult WD or Forgeworld list.
I don't play in the shops but can use the 3rd edition 'semi-official' rules from the Citadel Journal (by Tim Huckleberry), though they are underpowered and over priced.
The only other option is proxying a force from other lists, the Patriarch and Genestealers from the Tyranid codex, the humans from the Imperial Guard codex etc. Its mainly just the hybrids (and bikers) that don't have equivalent models that I know of.

Well its took me long enough but I've finally finished my bike and sidecar for my hybrid and here's the results, all 30 or so points:
Not sure if you can see but I've attempted some lighting effects on the bike's headlight and some scorching on the exhaust.
Hopefully its worth the effort I put into it.
In other news I've also managed to get a proper throne for my Patriarch so I may get round to working on that sometime soon.

It is the bomb. BOOM. A fine piece of conversion/scratch building.
I'm nit picking now but surely the headlight should be white/yellow? Not that there is any reason why it shouldn't be blue but yellow is more traditional for headlights.

Whilst I get back into the swing of painting (and to take a break from doing Guardsmen) I'll show what I'm currently working on.
Please excuse the pictures, I had to use my phone.
Firstly is a great model I've liked since it was released. Just gonna paint it up and hope I do a good job.
Next up is a really old Necromunda model. The old arms it came in were really thin and didn't look right.
I've built his arms up from some Cadian arms that I've trimmed down a little. The autogun is just the lasgun filed down with a bolter feed attached. I'm still doing some greenstuff on the arms to make them fit in better.
Thats about it really, nothing exciting but shows what I've got coming up.
