thanks gonna try and give him a few more weapons. Probably the longarm and shotgun for the left hand, and a pistol and tomahawk for the right hand and you can just pick the one you want him to have.. or get crafty with magnets if you want to be able to use all the bitz. And he'll also have a big bowie knife on his right leg and he's also got a holstered pistol on his left hip. So he's got weapons everywhere

Yep what I hope to do is have a few different weapons with each model, so you always have different choices.. and if you get a few different models you can mix & match and add whatever you want.
I'm talking with a sculptor right now about getting a Gambler done, so he'll probably be my next model. More melee oriented, but he'll still have a gun on his hip at least. I want to get all 6 professions out of the way first, then I'll move on to henchmen, but those will be more like static mono-pose single piece models and I'll probably package em as 2 per blister.

Just wanted to share the concept sketch for the next figure, the Gambler. He'll come with 2 different pistols, a bowie knife, a tomahawk, and a hand full of playing cards (so you can use a teeny, teeny brush to paint em up to be 4 aces!)

Thanks I will probably get him sculpted and then release both the Bounty Hunter and Gambler at the same time. The more I can cram onto a master mold the better since they're expensive.

Yeah the bounty hunter in the pics wasn't done yet, he's still working on a lot of the details and stuff like that, plus the photo is enlarged a bit. So it should look a lot better when I get the final piece.
Just heard back from one of the casting companies today that from when they receive the greens till I have metal in my hands ready to sell, it could be as long as 3 months due to all of the mold making and stuff, but restocks will be pretty quick after everything is set up. Maybe some other companies could be faster than others, but I'm guessing that it will take a while regardless. I was originally planning to just get these 2 models done and available, put em up for sale and then do a kickstarter to fund future models & recoup my starting costs. But with that kind of timeline, now I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and plan to do all 6 professions (2 per month) so there's no 3-month gaps in new releases. I still have a spare kidney I can sell in the meantime...

Cool thanks for the link, I'll check out some of their kits. I added them to the list on the site. Another great one I just found was Sarisa Precision, they're in the UK, but ship quick. They make some great laser cut wood kits, I just ordered a bunch but didn't get a chance to build them yet thanks to Skyrim. Only took about a week for me to get them here in the US.
Got some photos of the final green for the Bounty Hunter today! Pic is below. He will come with weapon options for a pistol (that could count as anything but a derringer really), a bowie knife, tomahawk, rolling block rifle and a small shotgun that could count as a coach gun or short barrel shotgun.
I’m going to wait until I get the Gambler done, and then I’ll send both off to the production company to make the models and models. It’ll save me a bunch of money if I can group up my models on 1 master mold, instead of doing just 1 model at a time. So going forward I’ll be planning to release 2 models at a time, hopefully 2 per month if all goes well, and then grow from there.

Looks great. Any idea how much each figure will retail for yet? I like that you're going with the seperate hand system. You'd mentioned before that you were going to try and expand into different settings in the future and I think you'll be able to re-use some of these guys by just releasing different sets of hands. Will you be packaging your models with GW-style bases or the rounded edge bases PP and Wyrd use?

At first I wanted the PP style bases, but I switched over to 40k style because they're 25mm/1" and I'm also planning a space hulk kind of board game that will have all 1" squares for movement so people don't have to measure things, so this way I can use all the same bases throughout.
But I have no idea what prices will be.. Have to wait until I get the models in the hands of the mold makers and see what each one will cost. What I'm really hoping for is $10 for a pack of 2 henchmen, and a little less for 1 professional. Could end up costing more or less, with how the costs of metal is always changing. I want to keep it as cheap as possible, will still being able to make a living at this some day Automatically Appended Next Post: Got another pic, this one is a size comparison with a space marine and a bolt action mini to show size/scale

Looks like I won't be able to get any new sculpts done till mid-late January due to scheduling, holidays, etc, so I'm just going to get the Bounty Hunter started and release him sooner, as my 1st model. Then I'll follow it up with the Gambler and Prospector or Doctor, so the next wave will be 2 models. And then hopefully follow that up with the last 3 professions and then move on to henchmen.

Yeah I can never make it to the game days anymore. Got myself one of those girlfriend things a while back and my saturdays belong to her now I'm always free sundays, but hardly anyone wants to play on sundays for some reason.

From the Army Painter newsletter:
Wild West at The Army Painter office
Couldn't help it - but we had to share with you our latest hobby installment here at The Army Painter HQ; Wild West.
Bo and Jonas each painted up a few gangs of cowboys, bounty hunters and other good-for-nothing gunslingers in a few hours and had a go at the free-download Western game: Blackwater Gulch, the next evening...
When the gun smoke cleared, the last man standing (i.e. last miniature left on the board!) was Bo's heavily wounded leader: Los Lobos Lips Raoul, after finally taking out Jonas' master gunslinger Lee van Cleef with a Bowie knife in close combat.
More gunslinger action to follow, including hobby painting galleries.
Congrats!

I just saw that too that was unexpected but super cool! I guess that's why I suddenly had a lot of people sign up to download the rules last night.
Bo was emailing be back when I first finished the rules and seemed to like it, but that was the last I heard. I'll have to send him a thank you model when I finally get em done. I have the bounty hunter green waiting for me at the post office, it was sent registered mail and I have to sign for it, but my lazy mail man won't bring it back. So I'll pick it up saturday morning and then get it shipped off to the production company.
Going to go with Iron Wind Metals, they do lots of great stuff.. Battletech, Malifaux, and a lot more. And they're not the 3-month guys so I'm hoping to have him available some time in January.

They have a bunch of different options. They can just cast the models and send me the metal, and then I package & ship them to wherever all by myself. I think that's what they do for Malifaux. That gives me more control over the final packaging which is nice. And I when you're at the point where you're doing 1000's of models at a time, it's probably cheaper this way.
They also can package the figures in clamshell blisters with a full color paper insert, little foam square, etc. I can use their standard clamshells, or supply them with my own if I want something different. They can do box sets too, but I have to supply the boxes and any other printed materials I want to include, like quick start rules or whatever. But, they can shrink wrap em and bulk ship directly to wherever I want them to go, so they can send them right to distributors instead of shipping to me first, so that'll save me a bit on shipping for big orders.
Right now I'm kind of torn.. I won't need retail packaging right off the bat, but I will later. So, I could start out by just selling the model myself in a little ziplock bag which would save me a bit and also mean a lower price for the customer too, but then I'd have to do a small price hike when I do start retail packaging. I'd like to avoid any kind of price hikes though unless absolutely necessary, so I'm starting to think it might be better to just start off with the blisters and go from there. Even though all you want is the metal inside, I'll avoid headaches later.
I've been chatting with Mantic about using their plastic boxes for my starter sets which will come much later. Shipping the boxes here from the UK will be kind of higher than I would like though :( But, I like the boxes so I think it'll be worth it in the long run. I'm thinking the starter sets would be 1 of the profession models I'm doing now, plus 4 1-piece henchmen models, and it'll come with small quickstart rules and a sample gang roster that will have all of the stats and skill rules on it too and a little bit of fluff. So other than building & painting the models, you're ready to play right out of the box. And then you have your own little carrying case for the minis too when you're done.

Got the Bounty Hunter green today Looks really great in person. The photos don't really do it justice. The weapons are small (but just the right proportions) .. they seemed like they'd be bigger in the photos.
I'll be shipping him off to get turned into metal on Monday, no idea how long it'll take to get the figures after that. I'm guessing I'll get my master models in a couple weeks, another couple weeks to get the metals all packaged up and ready to sell!
Here's a new pic I took, next to a Black Scoripion Tombstone mini and a GW cadian, and a shot with a ruler. I made this pic a little smaller, trying to get it to look "actual size"
What I decided to do, with these first few models that will have the optional weapons, is they will be labeled/sold as the gang leader models. So his name will be something like "Bounty Hunter Gang Leader", followed by "Gambler Gang Leader" etc. Then, later on, they'll be sold individually or packaged with 4 unique henchman figures in a starter set (so, 6 starter sets in all, 1 for each type of leader). And then you can count the henchmen as henchmen, or professionals too. Each starter will come with quick start rules and a sample roster sheet too.

Howdy Folks
Just a quick update... I recently got the master copies of the bounty hunter figure and all of his guns, and shipped a couple off to a painter who will be doing the "official" paint jobs to use for things like ads or box art, etc. Now production molds need to be made and the models get cast and packaged and then it will be ready to go. Everything is taking a lot longer than I thought, I'm learning the hard way just how long it can take to get 1 little product released. But, at least now I'll know and can plan ahead for next time. So right now it's looking like mid-late January if all goes well. Followed by the Gambler in mid-late Feb and the Prospector in mid-late March. I may be able to get the prospector and doctor together and plan to do 2 per month from then on.
Anyway, when all is said and done, it's looking like the gang leaders that have the figure and weapon sprue will all be $11.49. I have to admit that's higher than I hoped.. If I do the packaging myself I could save a bit, but with all of the shipping back and forth, printing, etc, it'll end up being roughly the same anyway in the end unless I can do like 10,000 copies at a time and I don't see that happening anytime soon. I thought about not packaging and just shipping out the model in a little ziplock bag, that would work for me selling off my website but that won't work for retail stores, meaning I'd have to raise prices later on. So I figured it would be better to just start with a nice looking finished product from the get go.
when I start doing henchman models, they'll come 2 per pack for hopefully the same price so 5 man starter pack I'm guessing will be around $35... but that's a ways off.
So now I just have some more waiting around to do, and pray that everyone I know gives me money for xmas
