The Bounty Hunter Gang Leader is now available!

$9.99 (usd)

You can get him directly from my site at http://www.gangfightgames.com.

Some would call them a Jack or Jill of all trades, Bounty Hunters excel at catching a man dead or alive... Usually dead. To get the job done, they master of a variety of weapons and tend to be stronger than most. Some bring only criminals to justice, but most will go after any bounty that pays well enough.

Bounty hunters gain +1 Strength when first recruited. They are known to use a wide variety of different weapons, and to reflect this they may use equipment one level higher than their current Ranged or Melee Combat Attributes with no penalty. Additionally, If your Gang Leader is a Bounty Hunter, any friendly model within 12" of him may reroll their Morale roll if they fail.

This package includes 1 Bounty Hunter Gang Leader Body, 1 Bounty Hunter Weapon Sprue and 1 30mm round plastic base. The included weapons allow you to equip your Gang Leader with a Rolling Block Rifle (Longarm), Coach Gun (Shotgun), Colt 45 (Pistol), Bowie Knife or Tomahawk (1-Handed Melee).

The size and scale of the figure is compatible with most "28mm Herioic" miniatures, standing 30mm to the eye, 34mm to the top of his hat. Model supplied unpainted. Not recommended for children under 13. Made in the USA, from good old fashioned white metal.

Sculpted and designed by Pedro Ramos.

Edit: When I have a new product available I'll update this first post in addition to a new reply. I figured it's better to do 1 big post than a bunch of new ones every time...

Sounds good!

I'm thinking the Black Scorpion 'Tombstone' range would be ideal for this!

Yes they're perfect, in fact I used pics of their models all throughout the rulebook and just did a couple of simple conversions for melee weapons for some models.

Eventually I'll be getting my own line of miniatures produced, but that's several months away at least.

Today I uploaded a new version of the rules with some minor tweaks and corrections. Feel free to visit the website at http://www.blackwatergulch.com to download the latest version.

Also, now that the rules are finalized for real, I've finished the print-on-demand version of the rulebook. It's available from lulu.com for $20 for the softcover and $30 for the hardcover. Even though the rules are available for free on the site, a lot of people asked for a printed option, and Lulu seemed like the best way to go. Both versions are in full color and printed on high quality paper. There's links to buy the books directly from the website, or you can click here to go right to the rules page.

Here are some photos of the books

Lastly, I'm expecting to have some drawings / sketches from the sculptor for the first few miniatures that I'll be getting produced. First will be a Bounty Hunter and a couple of henchmen. The plan will be to hopefully release 1 professional model in 1 blister (advanced, dynamic pose with optional weapons), and 2 henchmen (single-piece, mono-pose) in 1 blister each month, at first, and then see where it goes from there My first few minis will probably be coming from Pedro Ramos.

Thats it for now, more to come

Looks nice. I like the idea of free rules and a solid book version. Ive always been a fan of a real book in hand. Ive done a couple buy and print PDF games (like Mech Attack), and its a great & cheap concept, but theres something nice about having a real book.

Whats my game?

Thanks, and yeah I wanted to have books available for people that really want one. I went with print on demand since it costs me nothing to do, and I know if it were me I wouldn't want to print out a full color 36 page PDF on my home printer when I can have a nice book instead. The prices ended up being a little higher than I wanted though, but I guess that's one of the drawbacks. I could have made the book cheaper if I made it all black & white, but the whole idea was to have a nice, full color book.

I may go back and make the PDF more basic, and take out the colored backgrounds and a few other graphic things, so the cooler looking books will stand out and seem a little more worth it

Perhaps include some scenarios with the books as colour booklets? Based around famous showdowns?

I was thinking about that too actually. The book has 4 scenarios, and I planned to add new ones over time on the website. But I could strip out 3 of them and just have the main "set up & kill" mission for the online rules. I could also take out some of the photos scattered around in the book, and just use what's necessary and what I had to pay for This way the PDF will be a small file size too. Right now it's around 35 MB which I guess isn't too bad in this day and age, but still.

I'm at work, so I can't look into the rules. Is this just historical wild west or are there any Deadlands-ish creatures and weapons in it as well?

Yes, it's historical, but based on a fictional town so it's like generic wild west. I didn't want to go for the "weird west" stuff since that's already been done, and done again.

But that said, I am planning some missions and things based on folklore or old ghost stories, but that would be more like a fun extra thing for Halloween, stuff like that.

Are you going to be at Border Raids this month? Any chance for a demo?

Can't make it to border raids unfortunately :( But, I've been meaning to get down to Granite Run and chat with Mike about demos & stuff. I'm going to have a tight weekend schedule with the holidays coming up.

The next big con I'm planning on right now is Cold Wars in Lancaster in March. Looking around for other events I can do too, but I'm really just getting started. I'd like to try and make it to Adepticon too but may not be able to .. still up in the air right now.

You know, I haven't been to Cold Wars in a few years. I will try and make it down with my dad this year. Hopefully I won't be driving in another blizzard, or leaving in a downpour because the roof of my house blew off!

How did the Mechanicon demos go?

The game looks fun. Not many cowboy mini games i can think of. Tons of 20mm / 1/72 or 1/76 cowboy minis around too.

You should make your site more secure though.

Mechanicon went well Did a bunch of demos and met some nice folks. But I learned that a teeny board and teeny gangs wasn't good for a demo, so next time I'll be doing a full 4x4 with normal sized gangs so people can get a real idea of how it plays. The demos at Mechanicon lasted like 5 minutes

What's not secure about the website? Seems to be working well for me, I was getting spambots a lot on my old phpbb message board, so I switched to wordpress and it forces people to answer a math question before they can register, and only registered people can comment, and all comments have to be approved by me, so I can make sure spam isn't getting added. I switched to Wordpress since I figured the blog software would work good for adding and maintaining articles and downloads and stuff like that.

Nice. I downloaded the rules, and am making my way through them.

Are you expecting to have any kind of campaign system for this game? Seems to be the only thing missing (ie advancement)

@Tabitha, there are a lot of Cowboy mini rules and minatures in the historicals arena: Cowboy Wars, Gutshot, Legends of the Old West, off the top of my head. Lots of companies make miniatures too (Artizan, Old Glory, Crusader). Check out The Miniatures Page.

That being said, there is always room for more rules, and I'm always on the lookout for cool cowboy miniatures as well (can never have too many).

Nice work Necros.

thanks And actually I'm working on a campaign add-on now. I had it in the book originally, but I left it out for the "release" version since I wanted to make things more balanced and make the game easy to just pick up & play.

And then I figured I'd make it an extra PDF download for people that want to do campaigns and leagues, etc.

But the basic idea is.. In campaigns, every model's attributes start with 1, and for every 5 xp a model earns it can add 1 point to any attribute. And gangs earn money after games so they can buy new weapons and equipment. So at first everyone will be using wimpy level 1 or 2 weapons and only rolling 1 or 2 dice to attack with, so it will be a lot tougher to take out your enemies especially if they're more famous than your gang. But if they, there's a Bully rule so everyone on the wimpier team will earn +1 xp no matter what, win or lose.

And then league play will be without all the XP earning and you'll use normal gang members like now, only your gangs have Fame limits.. so the first round of your league may have a 400 xp max which is good for a 5 man gang, then next week or month everyone can increase it to 500 xp and so on.

And both modes can be run by an optional Tycoon (GM) who everyone reports their wins & losses to. I'd love to eventually be able to offer a campaign & league tracker for players on the website, in addition to an online gang builder. Need to find a good & reliable PHP programmer who will work for minis

And then much later I intend to put together story-based campaign packs where there would be maybe 6 new missions all following a certain storyline, kind of like Dust Tactics does. I admit I stole that idea from them :p

Been working on my guys for a few weeks now.

The buildings are available over on Drivethrough, and other areas online.

I downloaded mine, took them to Staples, and have them enlarged, then tack them onto the foamcore posterboard.

As of now, I've been using Reaper, and am waiting on my Tombstone guys from Black Scorpion.

Have Gutshot, but your game is more streamlined for faster, easier builds and play.( Still use a bunch of thier background stuff, but the Blacwater game is more along the lines of Necromunda, with a pulse.)

Once again, Grats on the tight playing rules set, the good setup, and your vision on a fun game.

We'll be getting a few of your new guys when they get up and running.

( Only issues I am having are the 28- 32 heroic scale creep between companies cowpokes. No big deal, but they are a little distracting.)

Thanks

And yeah my whole idea from the start was to make a quick & fun game. I love me some 40K when I have 2+ hours to kill, but sometimes it's nice to play a quick & fun game that will have a real outcome and not just some turn limit where everyone still on the battlefield just turns around and goes home. So I've been aiming for the half-hour mark for most average games with 10 man gangs.. But also keeping it open ended so people can do really small gangs or really huge ones. Noting to stop you from having an army of 50 men per side instead of small gangs, if that's what you really want.

Greenstuff is being squished onto my first model as of this morning Though I may not have a finished product done and ready to sell until January just because of the time it takes to sculpt and then produce. First model will be a bouny hunter, and I have another sculptor who will be starting a Gambler soon. I want to get the 6 professions out of the way first, in the meantime the black scorpion figs and others will make great henchmen till I can get around to making my own

Thanks for the free rules. I haven't got all the way through yet, but I like it so far. Dressing like a cowboy and shooting old west style guns is something I do every weekend when I go out into the big blue room. I like having a game like this for my indoor hobby.

Say, now you've gone to release status, is it too late to submit corrections? There's still a bunch of typos scattered throughout what I've read so far.

Sure, corrections, suggestions, whatever you want .. it's all good. Since books are print on demand I can pretty much just fix whatever I need to and re-upload the files, then whoever buys the next book gets the one with all the fixes in it

So I don't mind fixing typos and stuff, but actual content I don't want to change much at this point, so people don't feel like they just bought an obsolete book. As far as adding extra stuff, I'll be handling all that as freebie add-ons that will be available on the site.

Got my first WIP photos of the Bounty Hunter!

He’ll come with a couple of weapon options. A Rolling Block rifle, a shotgun that can be a Coach Gun or Short Barrel for his right hand, and a tomahawk or bowie knife along plus a pistol for the left hand. The sculptor just has to finish some more details plus all of the weapons.
