I only used to troll on Yahoo Answers and that was just because folks took it as real advice

I have started by, in a Minecraft MP world (cracked one, ot of people on), by destroying the pathway near the spawn, place a huge obsidian wall, and make an enormous cave. hell yeah. Its full of creepers, and last thing I saw was a dude who was being VERY annoying falling into it.
Mission 1- completed.

Strangely enough Dakka not too bad when in comes to trolls. Once you place the small handful of posters, who frequently troll, on the ignore list, the rest of Dakka is quite intelligent and pleasant to deal with.

I have to agree.

My thinking tends to be quite tangential and whilst I don't intentionally try to derail a thread; I often come back to it to find that I unintentionally knocked it off the tracks with a wrecking ball. There is no negative intent on my part so I generally appologise; do my best to ameliorate the situation and get it back on track.

I fail to see how a little sarcasm or humour can be harmful so long as it is obvious even to those who have had a sense of humour bypass.


As a note on the pleasentness of Dakka, I've been on here for a month or so and I've only had one notable annoyance.

I must say i find cruelty in many of its forms, hilarious. Trolling is one of them, but not the overly elaborate -ponder over the text field for 10 minutes- trolls. No, the funny ones fore me are The trolls that are clearly just twelve year olds Who havent learned how to play nice. They are the ones that tickle my funny bone. On dakka Albatross and Mattyrm have produced some trollposts i deem to be 'comical' i suppose Doomthumbs also had his moments.

I myself prefer IRL trolling. Like to nearly everyone i know i am an Ultra right wing Fascist devout Christian. I also just speak complete bulcrap, making up facts or just pretending to be incredibly dumb and sticking to it, also pronouncing things wrong to see if they correct me. I just love the rise when someone just goes 'You are talking Crap', Or 'Are you stoopid?!' Basically it is the behaviour of an Incredibly Insecure person but i wallow in it, i Wallow like a boss.

Trolling's not what it used to be. It used to be subtle, insidious. I'd see trolls show up in forums and post normally for days, sometimes even weeks. Then they'd press the button. They didn't just come out with some stupid thing that was obviously trolling. No they used that time they spent behaving themselves to learn the hot buttons, the personal quirks of posters. When they began actively trolling you didn't even realize it until later, if you ever did. The remarks that would start the furor would be carefully crafted to seem reasonable and serious while at the same time starting to push the buttons. They'd nurture their chaos carefully. Always careful to make themselves look like serious posters even as they started to brush up against other hot buttons. Before long the entire forum would be in an uproar without anyone ever really knowing why. A week later as things started to die down you might only then get a "Suckers!" like post from the troll but the really good ones went back under the radar until they found a new angle to work and more chaos to start.

True trolls are artists. Trolls today are the guys who draw dicks on the wall of a public restroom.

I hate it when people on the internet think you are troling, when you are actually presenting a unpopular opinion. I troll people on Athiest forums mainly trying to convince them that the God Emperor of Warhammer 40k is real and he will save mankind.

Boredom is probably a bit of a motivator to troll.
