If Matt Ward wrote the core rules, then wouldn't everything be overpowered?

Didn't ward write 5ed?

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

He didn't write the main rules, 5th edition was mainly written by Alessio Cavatore.

No because Matt ward has claimed to be biased. So you can bet his favourite armies will get buffs and his hated armies IE: Orks and other Xenos would get nerfed.... not that Xenos need any nerfing compared to the SM love going around.

Didn't Matt Ward write LotR game? Now that is an awsome, fun gaming system. Nothing is really overpowered and very well balanced. Yes there is a few hicups but alot less hicups that 40K has.

And no, I am serious not being sarcastic.

No, it won't. If what we have is indeed a GW product, and even if evasion is gone, we're still left with reasonably clean rules that are miles better than 5th.

Exactly. Anyone thinking the leaked rules were representative of a final product were being willfully ignorant. The consensus among the "believers" was that these were early playtest rules, which indeed seems to be true if this info is to be believed.

What we can probably expect to see is something very similar to overall gameplay with the more "out there" rules toned down or dropped.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

QFT. Anyone that is truly upset by this news has to lie in the bed they made. There was nothing forcing them to start planning 6th Ed. armies. In fact, I would say sites like Frontline Gaming only perpetuated the ruse by publishing videos of games being played in the "leaked" format. Not only that, but then that was posted on Dakka, BoLS, etc., etc. So, I think the cart got put way before the horse on these rumors. It is amazing the rate at which they took off.

Granted, this could be another red herring, but unlike the other people saying if this rumor is true, they're leaving 40K, I'm happy to say that if these rumors are true, I'll be staying.

For anyone who's played a narrative mission in a tournament, a self-made mission amongst friends at home, or even battle missions supplements including Kill Team and Clash of Heroes, or Planetstrike --- These rules that leaked are nothing more than an additional scenario for us to use with our current (expensive) collection of miniature figurines. I am excited to see what 6th proper will bring to the table this summer, but until that time i expect these leaked rules will on occasion relieve some degree of boredom that erupts with this game sometimes.

An actual rulebook release would be awesome, and I will be shelling out the $75 USD for the hardback when it releases. Until such time, I'll keep wistfully rolling dice with my compatriots in the way that suits us all in the most fun way. My FLGS has just recently had an eruption of new gamers to 40K, so throwing a leaked ruleset onto them at this stage would be counter-productive to their groundwork for the game. That being said talking about it hurts nobody.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Re: Open Letter, 6th Edition "Hereticus" ( Horus?) Rules Leak

To all please take some time and read through the pages of posts here on Dakka Dakka as well as other 40K sites.

Regardless of the validity of the "leaked" document the player community has engaged in lengthy active discourse. This will better that game and ultimately provide the corporation with a sound business.

Take heed to the points of view and criticisms. Incorporate the feedback.. make things better.

Because in the end, when you want to set goals for 6th edition, the foundation for your success lays here.. with your customers and the direction the game needs to go.

On the other hand.. if you choose not to listen.. go and take some target practice with your favourite plasma gun.

Thank you

However, it was explained that GW are investing all the time in new kits, new moulds, more people (sculpting team is largest its ever been apparently) and a bigger and better gaming experience… you can take that at face value if you wish… but if it means more plastic kits (and fewer Finecast), and more big bad creatures and machines is it worth it?

Sure, that's why Tyranids have their Wave 2...

Well, the news doesn't really tell us a whole lot about what did stick. For me, nothing changes. Keep playing the Heretic/pancake/leaked edition till 6th comes out and see what my group likes better. Currently the herecake/pantic edition is quite popular, so they'll have to wow us...and I don't have much hope of that.

I wish I had your gaming group. I'd love to try a game, but I can't get anyone in my group to try it - only one person was even willing to read it, and they don't want to play it because they say it helps other armies more than it helps their grey knights.

Is anyone else really freaked out that this means that Games Workshop, the crazy old fashioned dinosaur whose response to every situation is 'raise prices!' actually invested pretty major staff design resources in some form of, in programming parlance, agile innovation!

So basically GW have told us:

'That this is an early play test version of 6th edition and that some of the rules will make it into 6th and some won't. And there's no clear idea who the writer is.'

And before GW told us that we thought:

'That this is an early play test version of 6th edition and that some of the rules will make it into 6th and some won't. And there's no clear idea who the writer is.'

Nothing has really changed here. And for anyone who's disappointed about the turn sequence not changing, it's quite possible that for every big idea that won't make it, there's another big idea that will make it that isn't in the leaked document.

You still may not see the day.

My theory is that the 40k 6e hardcover will actually just be a delivery device for a voracious parasite that functions much like the cordyceps genus of ascomycete fungi, infiltrating your central nervous system and controlling your mind, causing you to climb to the top of the highest structure you can with your wallet held high over your head, so their trained Finecast Falcons can swoop down and liberate you of your money.

Somewhere Ironic

I cannot believe the crap I've just read. No, not the original post, I'm talking about all the whining. It's been already said, but anyone who thought those were the final rules were in WAY over their head.

"BUT WERE ACTUALLY WHINING ABOUT THE LOSS OF EV, TURN ORDER DIFFERENCE, etc," I hear you groan loudly at your monitor.

How the fresh warp is it making a backward step to drop the idea of reverting to 3rd ed turn order?! How is it a step backwards to drop a completely new idea, never officially released?

Samus_aran115 wrote:Lame. I liked the shook up turn structure. Probably will quit 40k now.

You're going to quit 40k? Again? That's adorable. Well go ahead, I wouldn't ever want to play ANY game with someone like you; you'd probably just quit half way if the game wasn't going your way. The same goes for the other dakkadites who felt the absolute need to proclaim that they're quitting a game they never gave a brick about.

Oh you should have, this way you can see how 6th could have been or how it improved.

Now what about those people on 4whatever that claimed it was their "house" rules? Didn't the Naysayers believe him? So how funny how people who said these were fake rules believe a fake person claiming it to be his rules.

Personally when the leaked ruleset came out, I was fully expecting the final product to be something along the lines of a “5.5” and this rumour seems to support this theory.

At this stage, I’m expecting the final product to be very “hit and miss” like 5E (in the sense that some people loved the ruleset whilst others hated it).

If I say I'm shocked then I'd look like a lemming following a long line of lemmings over a cliff over apperently nothing...

If I say I'm disappointed then I'd sound like a dreamer that woke up to find that it all was just a dream...

I guess you'll have to say I'm alittle of both. My take was that Leakhammer was DIFFERENT than 5th edition. It wasn't really 5.5, or a 3.0 prequel. It was simply it's own thing. I did hope however that it would just be a line here, a stat there, or a sentance there that would change. Maybe a new FaQ for certain armies etc. I just didn't expect 5.5

Not happy, not surprised, not leaving 40k, but not excited anymore either.
