Poll
Will Grey Knight be able to avenge their loss to the very dangerous MTO Necrons?
Yes. Last game was a fluke that the grey knights lost.
Draw. It's not so easy to beat my MTO necrons.
No. Necrons are the real deal and a true threat to the top-tier armies.

Ah, ok. I must have missed that turn. You're preaching to the choir about psy-vendreads though. I think mine has only been killed in 2 games in the last year. They are tough SOBs

Well, to be fair, I was playing daemonhunters long before the current grey knights so I wasn't exactly jumping on the bandwagon so to speak. But lately, I've been enjoying the Xenos side more - chaos daemons, tyranids and now the new necrons.

With all the photos in this batrep, the page is going to take a while to load so for this report, I'm just going to leave them where they are. However, your suggestion is what I normally do. In most of my batreps, the whole report is usually linked together. near the beginning. This report is one of the few exceptions.

Unfortunately, I am not a big tournament player. I have gone to a couple of local tournies, including the Ard Boyz Pre-lim's and Semi's, but a wife who is not into the hobby (you're playing again!...didn't you just played last week?) and work on the weekends have made it tough for me to travel and play in tournies a little further away.

Ironically, my 4x5 necron warriors are even tougher than my dreads! While I have lost all my dreads once against eldar wraithwing at the Arb Boyz Semi-finals, I have yet to lose more than 2 squads of warriors. Lol.

Very true. However, it also has to do with efficiency. It is very inefficient to shoot at warriors who will just go-to-ground in cover....and can get right back up unless you wipe out the whole squad....and in the dark as well!

I know you pain on the above underlined. I managed to get a little more leeway but I still get the guilt trip everytime i head to a tournament like I never spend time with her even though I am with her everyday of the week and take her out during the week. Its never enough . I only play at tournaments that I am willing to drive to and I can get a buddy to come with. Looks like it will be only 2 this time unless a third one joins in the last minute.

As for liking xenos lately I think that is what grey knights kind of did to the hobby. So much redundancy has seen people surge over to the xenos armies and running more finesse and fun list. I think I actually have a losing record atm with my sisters of battle even though I placed well in that tournament. Im curious which army did you vote for in that thread for my GT army? You were one of the Tau's weren't you ?

Playing sisters nowadays is almost like playing the old daemonhunters back then. I would lose my share when I first started, but after a few games (ok, more than just a few games), I started winning. But don't fool yourself, they had severe limitations and each battle was a struggle. Despite playing a under-powered codex, I still ended up with a winning record because I knew how to take advantage of their strengths and use tactics to compensate for their weaknesses. I see the new SoB's the same way. You can still win with them, but you have to play more tactically and each battle is tougher, especially against the newer armies.

I actually didn't vote on your poll (at least I don't think I did) but it's really up to you. If you want to win, you take your best army, which I am assuming is guards. Otherwise if you want to challenge yourself, then Sisters or Tau is a good choice. Considering you won with sisters, that's a pretty good achievement, considering you had to go through GK's on the last round.

Yeah, I don't do tournies often, though I like to "save-the-date" for the Ard Boyz series. For some reason, I like the 2500 points levels because I get to use more of my toys.

My problem with SoB's is the lack of variety in the lists (and my own bias of what they used to 'feel like' playing, they used to feel epic with Faith, now they play very bleh).

The lists though, I will make any SoB list that people would use in a tournament....

Celestine
Jacobus - w/ conclave 6 DCA/3 Crusaders

3x Exorcist
3x Dominion in MM Immolator w/ 2x Melta

Fill in the rest to 'taste' (which means take 2 at most 3 BSS in rhinos and throw some special weapons on them).

The rest of the book has 2 units that are individually good, but are overshadowed in their slot/do not fit with a cohesive vision for the SoB (Rets and Seraphim). Then we get to the purely bad units - Canoness, Command Squad, Priest, Confessors, Repentia, Penitent engines. I would also call the new Celestians bad overall, but they at least bring an Immolator (also kind of bad now) and there are no other viable choices left anyway since we already maxed out HQ/Fast/Heavy...

I probably have not played them enough (6 or 7 times with the new book) to really 'know' the army, but that is more because they are so boring.

(sorry to derail, I was looking at my 3000 points of SoB last night and it made me sad)

One of my regular opponents and also partner in this battle report, SabrX, used to play a very competitive Immo-spam Witch Hunter list (though w/3 exorcists) back in the days. He's been somewhat disillusioned with his new battle sisters though after just a couple of games against me and has put them on the shelf for now. Of course my lists are usually pretty competitive as is my play, but those games just showed some of the glaring weaknesses of the new sisters. I agree that there isn't many viable, competitive sisters build, but even their most competitive builds are barely able to keep up with the competitive builds of the newer armies.

I think the fault lies in the "interim" sisters dex. Doesn't seem as if GW has put enough thought and time into its design. While all the other newer armies with their own, actual codices have a slew of competitive and fun builds, I just don't see that with the new Battle Sisters. So unfortunately, Sister players are going to be stuck with the same build if they want to play competitively, and even that really isn't enough to compete with the other newer codices.

I will agree that the lack of options/viable builds is a problem. My difference in opinion is that I think that sisters are very viable with that build. (Celestine, Uriah Bomb, 3xDom, 3xExo + Whatever)

I actually plan on taking Sisters to 'Ard Boyz this year with just a slight tweak to add a second conclave and Kyrinov instead of Celestine. Should be entertaining.

Sure they can win. But if you take their best tournament build against the best of some of the other codices - grey knight Crowe-Purifier Psyfleman-spam, Space Wolf long-fang spam, IG vendetta-melta-vets, Necron MTO wraithwing, BA razor-AV13-spam, even tyranid hive guard-tervigon-spam - they really struggle. The lists I normally use (which includes 4 of the lists above) can handle MSU-mech usually with not much problem, and that includes the Battle Sisters. I'm not saying that my lists can't be beaten by them, but it will be a struggle for them each time.

For the record, Sisters of Battle is far from being most competitive 40k armies. It's becomes a game of how many stuff they can kill at close range before they get swept away in assault. Sure they have a couple CC options, but they pale in comparison to other codices CC units. Nevertheless, I wish you luck pretre.

Great report as always! I have very much enjoyed reading your Neron reports, as well as watching your army's evolution. I've always been a fan of the Crons, and being able to see how some of the units work is a huge help to building my own Necron army. Still, I can't help but feel that this battle could have had a much different result if you guys had used the little turtles as objectives this time...

Download the vassal program and then get the latest 5.4E warhammer 40k module. When you download the module unzip the file and stick it on your desktop and then go in vassal an fille open new module and click the 5.4e file and your up and running. Let me know a time and I can get on an show you the basics of it. Its quite simple and really helps you get games in if you dont have time to hit up the local hobby store or if you wanna try out new units before buying them.

Tomb King wrote:Download the vassal program and then get the latest 5.4E warhammer 40k module.

Ok, I'll give it a try when I have time. Thanks.

I use vassle too, to test out all my new armies, except has it got the new necrons?

It doesn't seem to have them yet, only GK and DE are updated.

I like it alot but i suggest if you play against yourself use your dice instead of the programe, you get really weird dice roll, i got four 1s out of 4 dice, which is just shocking, then i got four 2s on the reroll, just finding it weird on how the matrix works to generate random numbers
