I think there are members of every group that want to feel special and elite. They do this by looking down on anyone who isn't a part of their group.

It results in racism, sexism, homophobia, turning political debates into shouting matches, and calls of "nerd" or "dumb jock".

Every group has its donkey-caves. You'll find life to be much more enjoyable if you just accept people for who they are and ignore the ones that won't accept you.

Dont forget this. Sports(along with war) are considered the epitome of manhood and to refuse the is to be considered to be not a man in many places of the world.
But i hate sport fans that try to get me into it, my sister and dad try to talk to me about recent games. and i clearly dont show an interest. But i got back at them. I talk to them about war gaming and painting and watch them change the topic.

It must be horrible to have a parent and sibling who gives a gak about you enough to try to interest you in something, for a shared bond of communication. Wow thats got to suck.

For the most part sports are much more socially-acceptable than wargaming or sci-fi stuff.

Is all about what our society thinks.

Ya know, things like: texting while driving is no big deal, you should post all of your life on Facebook, dropping $300 in alcohol in one night is totally cool, and other stuff like that.

Maybe you hang out with immature women. Maybe you're attracted to immature women because you think they'll let you shpadoink them.

If you are wondering why, look at a few comments why.

I see the pleasure in football statistics (American football) or whatever sport no different that debating star trek, star wars, DnD, or whatever is referred to as geek.

There is always going to be that element of people who look down on others for like professional sports or Dungeons and Dragons. It's stupid because they don't like it. You will see stereotype after stereotype.

Like football?

Oh you must be a stupid, obese, pizza eating blue collar worker who will remain at the bottom of the social class. Buying an NFL jersey just makes you a tool, you are just making a guy who can throw a ball richer.

Like DnD?

You live in your mom's basement, you're a virgin, you whack off to CGI Elven porn, you are married to a girl in world of warcraft who in real life probably looks like Danny Devito.

Never understood the personal crusade people make on things they do not like when often they can see themselves in the people they make fun of.

That jersey you are making fun of a guy for buy, no different than that band t-shirt you bought or that anime t-shirt. Just making someone else that much richer wearing something that says "I like this form of entertainment".

Those guys you made fun playing DnD (or whatever) no different that Fantasy Football. Bunch of men gathering around the table or computer disguising numbers and strategy, stats schedules. Just another form of entertainment.

Personally I love both and been involved with both of "nerd culture" and "jock culture" and the stereotypes are rather annoying. Both at friday night magic and at the gym. Someone of the guys I work out with at the gym know I play miniatures games or as they call it "army men games". Had one guy ask me if I was like Micheal Jackson trying to relive my child hood or something.

On soccer/football.

Another regulations that needs to be added URGENTLY is that the ban of laser pointers. football audiences attending any match are required to NOT carry a laser pointer of ANY size.
since this pointer is sitll dangerous on human optical systems. moving or not... an audience pointing this thing on a player's eye (s) while activating this item equals cheating the match and must be persecuted.

Yeah, that's the most urgent thing...
Not the restructuring of the FA, arguably one of the most corrupt organisations in the world.
Not the introduction of video refereeing.
Not the introduction of actually being able to stop the clock.
Not the possibility of getting the players and fans to actually respect the ref.

Laser pointers is definately what's wrong with it...
Never mind all the stuff that gets thrown on the pitch...
Beach balls, flares, bottles, sticks, baloon ...

Laser pointers are definately the thing...

You know there is a cross over right?
You can like Wargames/Sc-fi, and Sports. Football is ahead of 40k for me, if Norwich are playing (at home, too poor to go to away games) on a day of a 40k tournament that some of my friends are going to, i'll always chose Norwich ahead of 40k. And I know a lot more about football, a few years ago I knew even more, I think I must have spent a couple of hours each day reading every story on BBC Sport football page, now I ignore a lot of non-Norwich football, but could probably give you quite a few details of any of the games i've been to over the past 12 years.

Most hobbies, are going to require some kind of 'nerdieness' I suppose, you need to know what your talking about, you obviously enjoy what ever it is, and you can get 'nerds' in anything really, but I think in general there are going to be more sc-fi nerds, than Football nerds. Or at least thats what society thinks. I personally don't care what people who don't know me think, none of my friends who know about me playing 40k have ever said anything along the lines of it being nerdy or geeky, they either don't care or are too polite to say so. And you've shown, that people do think 'Sports fans' (which is far to broad, there are probably at least a couple billion sports fans, not sure there is quite so many wargaming/sc-fi whatever fans, its also seemingly easier to be a passive of part time sports fans, such as major events as a World Cup or Olympics, you might never watch Football, but yet your country are competing in the World Cup, so you must care, for some people) are nerds. There are people who take their obsession/knowledge as far as any one else.

The FA aren't corrupt, most definatly not arguably one of the most corrupt. Fifa for a start are more corrupt. The FA are just inept.
Respecting the ref will never happen, unless there is a way to make every decision 100% correct, and even then, people will still get upset at the ref. I think video refereeing would be great, but it could potentially slow down the game (ok half the game is already wasted with the ball being out of play) unless someone was just feeding the outcome to the ref from the stand, but I don't think that will happen any time soon. They still seem to be trying to avoid goal line technology, I know its supposed to be coming in, I think its only trials though, so they (they being Fifa) will probably try and stop it.

Basically, the FA, Fifa whoever, like the controversy. Horse Racing, with the whole Whip thing was probably in the media forefront more during that whole saga than it has been in a long time, its probably benefited them. Rugby, doesn't have half as much controversy, and probably has about half as many fans all in all (ok that may be way off, there probably isn't even an accurate way to tell). Football, is the main Sport in England, and many other countries, and I think part of that is down to the controversy, the media fore fronting. If that all went away, Football would probably shrink a little in popularity.

I agree mostly with Rodgers, okay he supports the budgies, but that can't be helped. Pretty much all the football fans (Soccer for our cousins over the pond) I know around my age, are also videogamers, so they are sorta in essence involved in nerdy pursuits anyways.

Been supporting football since I was about eight back in 1982, and the NFL since 1988. Watch Motorsport on occasion, wear both Ipswich and Denver shirts, love the fact after moving to Suffolk in 2004 and taking on Ipswich as the main team I support, (previously Man U, although I was in Cornwall, and I started following them when I was eight when they where going through a quiet patch ) they tied in with Denver with a white horse logo, 'two white horses' which is often my username on football sites now.

Oh and Rodgers, I'm only kidding, don't get the hostility between Norwich and Ipswich fans, should just be a good old friendly rivalry in my book, want Norwich to stay up, and want us to get up there so we can have the East Anglian Derby in the Premiership.

Yeah I feel the same, don't get why Norwich fans would want Ipswich relegated, can't see the point, were supposed to have a rivalry, if were not going to play each other, there is no rivalry... There is no real reason for fans to be so 'aggressive' (or just insulting) from either side, should all just be channeled into wanting your team to win the derby, not thinking up insults, and generally being a douche the whole time...

It's true, there is a inconsistency in what people call geeky. To be honest the sports fans don't bother me that much. It's people who are into cars. I have a friend who is into cars and has took me along to a few of the things he gets up to. He takes his brightly coloured japanese sports car to various car parks after ten o clock at night where he meets similar people with similar cars and they spend the night talking about four stroke engines, intercoolers and how practical and economical cars are lame. I also can't walk down the street with said friend without him commenting on cars going past and assuming I'm interested. How them guys get away with not being called geeks is beyond me.

Hehe, the very same thing happens on this site. Its toally normal Human behaviour, which Marine chapter is the best, why is this Chaos Lord the best, which do/would you pick Tyranids or Necrons etc etc. If rivalries, and the idea that folks want to hold up a banner for their prefered choice bothers you, well you could be in for a long life of annoyance.

Should be mentioned that the English League itself has very little corruption.
