No one seems to touch on the fact about how terrible that mural must be when you are hammered...

Well, most of us don't make a habit of hitting the green fairy.

Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.

Unfortunately, because of some slow, the pub will have to change their name. The same lawsuit from the US was brought upon a Sandwhich Bar in the UK last year called 'The Hungry Hobbit'.

The Pub does not have the resources to afford a legal challenge.

A bit of everything really....... Titanicus, Bolt Action, Cruel Seas, Black Seas, Blood Red Skies, Kingdom Death, Relic Knights, DUST Tactics, Zombicide the lit goes on.............

What was the resolution?

They had until Nov 2011 to agree to change, so it's possible the thing is still going on.

According to South today this morning, an agreement has been reached whereby the pub can continue to call itself The Hobbit for an annual fee of $100.

That's what I call a good solution.

ID say, change the name of the drinks, and say the artwork was inspired by? Wouldnt that get around it all?

There is a similar case in today's The Metro.

Agreed!

Middle Earth Enterprises protects their IP and gets a small amount of money.
New Line gets free advertising for their film.
The pub gets to keep their name and gets advertising well worth the $100.

A win-win-win!

I agree that it is douchbaggery.

Im sure the Smaller but often charming UK Corperations such as, lets say GW, never ask a penny from any one wishing to use their IP, such as Relic or Fantasy Flight Games. Or say, Sues a small basicly garage business over the fact that some of their toys look like GW IP.

My point is that this has nothing to do with the Country the Company is located in and everything to do with Greedy morons who have no inkling or thought about what their actions may do in the future.
So how about next time you leave out the snide USA bashing remarks unless its truly relevant to the discussion.

OT: Im glad they were able to work out a solution. I went to the "Hobbit " once long ago. Had a pint and a nice couple of hours.
