Wing Commander
Firehawk 1st Armored Regimental Headquarters
|
Now to put this in context I am 16 and run a Imperial Guard Army called Luna's Legion. This is a heavy armor army that makes heavy use of Tanks and Artillery and my only Titan ( a Warlord ). This is an apoc battle. This Army uses the cutie mark of the Princess from My Little Pony as a banner and marking. Cutie Mark: The Army is painted in a void space Camo theme. I enter the store to play a 2vs2 Apoc with my Friend who plays Ultramarines. I sit down and begin to unload my army after greeting everyone. My opponents are 2 people who I have never met before, they look to be in there 20's or older, one plays Ork "Green Tide" and another plays Tyranids. Now, everyone in the store knows about the cutie mark thing, but I had to tell them as none of them recognized it, and they didn't care and I even got some compliments on my painting. As I take my Baneblades out ( I didn't bring my Titan, to big and to cumbersome sometimes ) they have 2 flags on the back of each both with said cutie mark and a III under it. The Tyranid player immediately shouts "HOLY THATS FROM MY LITTLE PONY", I give him a look and said, "Oh you watch as well?", he then responds with " Lol I don't that shows for fags and horse er's". He does not say anything after this and I decided to go with it and crush his pathetic army with my " Fa-word Army". After I have everything unloaded and I begin to speak with my friend on strategy the Ork player leans over the table and says, "Are you ing slowed? Were is all of your Guardsmen and Infantry, I explain to him what little Infantry I have is on Chimeras and Valkyries as I do not like playing with mass Infantry and prefer mass armored combat. But hes having none of it and proclaims that his Orks will crush my "Stupid list" into nothing. Battle opens up and he loses his entire first charging wave to my 4 Baneblades and several Leman Russ's. He then goes into a rage accusing me of being a player and how I won't be able to hold off another attack. Second wave is chopped to peices by Artillery fire and my Manticores turn his Warboss into a green smear. Him AND his friend the Tyranid player then go into a rant on how I am a Horse er for having a Army which only illusion to My Little Pony is it's flag, and my friend for being a "Ultrafaggot". They then pack up and leave, with the Ork player throwing his Warboss in the trash on the way out. Me and friend re-organize our armies as we have another match later that day and go grab a Starbucks and something to eat from Cheesecake factory!

I wouldn't consider that tailoring. It's natural to guess and try and compensate for the opponent's strategy. I'm not defending list tailoring to the extreme, i.e. taking a screwy hard counter to every unit, but trying to at least win is always a good idea.

Honestly, the only poor sport I've had to play was a young gentleman with his dad in the FLGS. He was obviously fairly new to the game, so some of this is conjecture.
Played a 2v2 match, 1500 pts a player, he brings 2 land raiders, and starts boasting how "Maccrage" (Clagar) is gonna steamroll my Necrons. He keeps trash talking all game, and I sit there and take it as dignifiedly as possible. He swears his scout snipers are gonna wreck my troops. (I let them infiltrate into a corner, and just deployed elsewhere, they were stranded with nowhere to go all game. (Lol)
By the end of 4 turns, the store was closing, I'd wrecked both landraiders, Killed Calgar and his termie retinue, dealt with a drop pod full of melta sternguard, and a land speeder...and had taken 10 total casualties all game. I just smiled, and left so they closed up shop.
And GOD DID IT FEEL GOOD! O.o

There was a time that I was playing against my friend who plays necrons. It was a very close match the whole time up intill my assualt things made it to his gunline. All for troops he had left when turn 5 came around was a 5 man squad of immortals. He realised that he had no objectives held since my wyches and archon were contesting a objective that trazyan was holding. So he move and ran his immortals up to try and get a objective my warriors who lost their raider a few turns back were chilling at. When it was my turn a landed the archons raider infront of his immortals to force him to walk around it.After my turn we rolled for to see if we went to turn 6. We didn't.It was Dark Eldar:2 Necrons: 1. So I told him Good game and wanted a hand shake since I had fun. All he said back was if we had a turn 6 he would have beaten my over powered army. He then didn't talk to me the rest of the day which was stupid since he was my ride home from the place.

I figured he would do it when I played him since he always has been the sore loser person. Since he got really mad when our friend who just started playing beat him with a 'lets try to make a legal list with these model' eldar. He got over it but still he gets made and curses my codex.Which i tend to laugh inside since I avoid the really common stuff i.e. I don't spam venoms with blasters in them.I usually play very fluffy lists. While he plays scarab farms or wraith wing and stuff. So i laugh when he calls me OP.

In all honesty, I actually think an uncommon "fluffy" list has a better chance than a meta list in some situations. So, my horribly uncoordinated "GET AS MANY POWER WEAPONS AND JUMP PACKS AS YOU CAN, FETH THE POINTS AND SCORING!" list often catches the opponent by surprise. Not many people expect 5 DC with Power Weapons and a squad of maxed out Sang Guard belting as fast as they can towards you in a Stormraven with a DC Dread!

Thats why I take a fluffy list. A local Dark Eldar player told me that Reavers will never really help me other then them being a sucide tank hunters.A couple matches later and my reavers are a terror for my group. Which is great since Reavers are really important to my Kabal's fluff.

You're right, most people don't expect illegal units. You can't put Death Company and Sanquinary Guard into the same Storm Raven.

this is common in tourneys simply to stop cheaters going "oops i fogot to roll" for 4 turn and geting the fast skimmer tank shocking on an ob last turn, thus winning them the game, its harsh, but TBH, use postits and you wont "forget"

If you forget to roll, you just roll the following turn. You don't lose a unit because you forgot to roll for it to come on from reserves.
I remind my opponents all of the time to roll for reserves...so I can KILL THEM! The reserves, not my opponents...

I showed him the sheet before the game began, he skimmed it said ok and we began.I got first turn, moved and then I started shooting. I combined all 6 beams and placed the mega blast marker and rolled fro skatter, dead on. Took out 27 of a 30 man unit. After smoke cleared he called me a cheater and scooped his models into a box and left.I couldn't believe he did that. The next day I went back to my local store and he was playing against another player. He saw me and gave me a dirty look and the proceeded to quit that game too. I laughed that a 40ish old person could act like a child. I asked the other play, SW, why he left and he told me that the guy kept trying to cheat and then saw me and got all flabbergasted. Oh well good ridence.
How sad someone's life has to be to wrap so much of one's self worth around a game and then needing to cheat to try to win at all costs. As long as the game I am playing is entertaining and fun I really don't care if I win or lose, as I am spending time with friends and enjoying myself. I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you aren't having fun playing the game, then you are most definitely doing it wrong.

They might as well wear a sign that says: "Hey, look at me, I'm cheating!!"

I told this story in another thread, but I think it's quite pertinant, so I'll give it anyways.
At my FLGS, there was one man, who litterally looked like Santa Clause, and he ADORED his Mech-dar. Craftworld Lugganath paintscheme, every figure modeled as it was equipped, not a single bit of greenstuff out of place.
One game, though, someone was laying down a blast template, and accidentally elbowed one of his Wave Serpents. The model fell, and one piece broke off.
The man immediately picked up his chair, smashed his opponent over the head with it, and then launched it into a nearby display case, wrecking about $200 worth of painted, assembled models. Needless to say, he never came around that shop again. :(

Even if he wanted to come back he wouldn't be allowed. Did he have to pay for anything?

Yeah, a load of damages. I think he may have even had some anger management classes, not quite sure. That was when I first started showing up at that store, so I wasn't really privy to the whole gossip.

That just sucks all the fun out of playing...I don't know why people do that, if he thinks about what he could buy with 200 dollars or he could smash the display case.

Doesn't it? The store manager came over to me and took me aside, explaining the whole TFG concept, and that 99.999% of wargamers were nothing like that, and thank god he did. Otherwise, 40k future=crushed.
