Right, right.

Anyways, OT, I'd still be highly skeptical of how anyone could fit 4 Ven Dreads, one of them being an IC, into a 1000 point list, without even looking at a codex.

3 ven dreads + bjorn = 765

2 troops of 5 grey hunters = 150

So its possible, but cant imagine its fun to face.

No I can assure you, there are not enough Las Cannons in the world...
And unfortunatly I have to play this list quite often as this person is one of the only 40k players in my town.

You could take 3 vindicators for half the cost of his dreads...
or maybe a MotF and 5 mm dreads in drop pods, with two 5 man tac squads @ 1000 (if you can't beat them out-cheese them )

edit: drop the pods and get yet another dread, 6 @1000pts would be funny just to see his face.

I'm not really familiar with SW dreads, but I can imagine that green tide orks would roflstomp that list.

Concentrate fire on the 2 grey hunters, remove his ability to claim objectives, then get PKs into the dreads (I usually run 4 minimum at 1000pts, more if I run a nobstar).

Back on topic, I find that bad sportsmanship isn't just limited to people when they loose, or the drastic cases.

There's a guy who hangs around the store, fairly decent guy. I'm fairly certain he's mentally deficient. Not saying that in an offensive way, but... You can tell, he's not entirely with it. He's a remarkable painter/modeler, he has his own scratch built Warlord Titan that is simply JAWDROPPING, but, as you could imagine for a mentally challenged person, he's not exactly the best at playing the game. He rarely wins, most often gets completely tabled. As you could also imagine, when he does win, it's a fairly big deal for him. So he makes a big deal out of it.

On the other hand, we get donkey-cave one-timers every day; people who come in for one game, make snide remarks, gloat if they win, rant a bit if they loose, and you never see them again.

Yeah. This is one of the reasons I make it a policy to throw the game if it's someone's first time. Not make it an easy game, but if it's someone's first time at the table, I try to make them win.

Of course, I play tyranids, so it's not all that difficult.

"If you really want to know what it was like, to fight in the air in the great War, then go up to someone you have never met and who has never done you the slightest harm and pour a two-gallon tin of petrol over them. Then apply a match, and when they are nicely ablaze, push them from a fifteenth-floor window after first perhaps shooting them a few times in the back with a revolver. And be aware as you are doing these things that ten seconds later someone else will quite probably do them to you. This will exactly reproduce... the substance of First World War aerial combat and will cost your country nothing. It will also avoid the necessity of ten million other people to die in order for you to enjoy it."

That doesn't sound like bad sportsmanship to me, but honest excitement. If he loses with equanimity and doesn't rant and rave I am not going to begrudge the guy some excitement when he actually does win a game.

Oops. I don't really think I made myself totally clear. When I say he makes a big deal out of it, I mean he starts talking smack. Which, for many of us, is totally acceptable, and often welcome. But a lot of the WAAC, table-top-games-are-serious-business folks, especially the one's who don't really know him, get pretty annoyed.

I don't throw games against new players, but do support them and offer advice during the game to help them understand how their army works and how the rules work. I am also more lenient when they are totally new to mini-gaming and offer suggestions when they are making a very poor tactical decision and help them see why it would be more effective to do things a little differently. In those situations I have lost games where the new player picks up on things very quickly and adapts exceptionally well. It is hard to feel bad about a loss in those situations, though.

Thanks!

Really don't understand the mentality of those who feel the need to be d-bags to completely new players. Of course we have created a monster in this way in our Flames of War League. Our youngest player is around 10. Last league we guided him through and taught him well and he actually placed 5th overall. Definitely not bad for his first league ever. Now as we are running our current LW league he is *leading* the league. Part of that is due to the fact that he is there EVERY Sunday league day, so gets in more games than all the adults who have other committments as well. Can't help feeling like a proud uncle though to see how far his game has come over the last year, though.

If another Dkok player had a game against him i wonder what would happen. Would Rojan run away or would the other Player shell out just as many shots. and my guess as since the other player knows his rules he will probaby be a better tactician. But still it make you think what some people have come to in order to win.

Pile of Necron Spare Parts

Not sure how well this applies, but here's two.

Over a year ago, I was working on a Guard army as my group was complaining too much about my Necrons. Even after telling them how to obliterate my army, they just kept ignoring the Warriors and Destroyers and pour everything into the Monoliths. Didn't do anything for them. So, for my birthday, me and a few friends decided to do a 2 vs 2 game. Chaos & Guard vs Space Wolves and Orks. Game ends at the end of turn 3, when my Chimera fires and Njarl and deals two wounds. My friend then proceeds to roll double 1s and everything goes silent. We've known this friend to throw fits and go off in the past before when things went bad for him, but not this time. He ended up pulling out a knife and just glared at my Chimera. Me and a friend were both getting ready to bolt out the garage and run down the street til he put the knife back up. There are reasons I(and a good deal of my group) don't game with him anymore.

The only other one I can think of is another game with Space Wolves player some months before. Bottom of turn 2 and it's my turn. All my fallen Necrons get back up with help with the Res. Orb. My friend has two squads within charge range of my Warriors, so I use the Monolith to pull them back and out of threat range. He then goes off calling me a retreating coward for teleporting my Warriors away from danger. I ignore it, and open up with my two squads of Destroyers, causing heavy casualties for him. He then proceeds to quit the game, complaining how he can never win. Complaining that Necrons are cheap, they have a chance of getting back up, don't stay dead, too over powered. Then goes to explain that he went off like that because he hadn't ate that morning...

im a real scumbag. Against new players I pull my hardest list, usually night lords or raven guard, and trash em as efficiently as possible. On the upside I then go through what happened after the game give em advice on their list, show what they could have done and give them helpful hints during their next game with someone else.
