If only things on the shelf are allowed then will they remove previous editions discontinued models from your army also?

I was talking to a temp from another store the other day and when I casually brought the subject up he got slightly agitated and said the reason was that having the specialist games was "pointless" and "a dead end" he said that you can't do anything with them "especially campaigns" I would have argued back, but the guy was nearly frothing at the mouth.
Also, one of my gaming group rang up GWHQ and he said that it's now a store policy to disallow specialist games...

it is safe to assume any and all expansions to the 3 main systems or standalone specialist games will become obsolete as soon as either the next edition comes out or lack of "supporters". (much like what happened to warhammer magic, now known for current addition as storm of magic) for those that play fantasy or 40k should on the safe side should only buy their codex (or army book) + any new miniatures and not to support the next expansion or supplement for said gaming universe, or do but don't complain when support is no longer there. it's been noted that GW aren't there to help you (unless purchasing items from them) or want to be friends (unless for free advertising), they are simply there to make profits, that means everyone whom supports their products is welcome. those that do not are less welcomed, this may be fine amongst the overall buisness model but can the buisness sustain itself without said clientele (not just new gamers but veterans, one and alike)? it'd be easy to assume they could on the short term (pending on global trends variable growth or decline), but the gaming system would be that much less colourful. that is fine with GW because as long as they are making $$$ for their CEO/staff as well as their investors, then the investors (all those involved outside of GW with private investment within the company) won't take there overhead investment to say some independant gaming or other based company. on one hand they are right to allow/disallow anything on there property. it's stupid/daft to ban products within the same company of intial production. it's like saying here buy this game. then you do. then are told you cannot play it where/or from whom you purchased it from. IMHO this has never arisen with me as i only (when i find other opponent's to game against) is in FLGS's. all my mates play specialist games (gaming club- disbanded)) game with friends or @ FLGS.

yes and no . yes if it no longer functions in newer additions or no if said units function as they are supposed to. same applies to expansions or supplements or as noted specialist games. however this is based on what has happened before, not what will happen, but it seems like this is the buisness model of GW.

food for thought: not affiliated with GW. ie never worked for them.

if specialist games were supported i'd play epic, mordheim, necromunda, BFG & gorkamorka as well as a number of other mostly forgotten "specialist games" as these games were what introduced me to the grimdark of 40k and the magical setting of Warhammer FB.

If they don't allow Specialist games because they don't carry them in store, then what about metal IG armies? All of them are still available through GW online, but not in store. (at least not in my area).

I an currently building Vostroyans. Almost all of it has been purchased through GW directly. I would be majorly pissed if I couldn't use them in store.

Yes, always found it funny that GW prefers to promote the LotR game that I've never seen anyone play over the Specialist Games that seem to be insanely popular.

Then again, tis probably why I haven't stepped into a GW store in over two years.

I know my local GW was having a games night for specialist games fairly recently. One of the staff even asked me if I was interested in any of them a few months ago. The topic hadn't come up lately, but I don't think anything has changed.

hmmm i would like to see someone play a sisters of battle army. there is no codex or models in store...but they are still available online and are i would think a cult popular army.

i would love a sisters army...that may indeed be my next project, but not for a while anyway.

i too have never seen anyone play LotR ... ever lol

sisters are still allowed in GW stores, because you had to buy the white dwarf to get the rules. and this means we must spend more money to use their toys in their game.

again, i haven't seen LotR played since about two or three years after the films stopped. maybe the hobbit will bring new life, but i doubt it...
