Not really, not based on historical examinations of Presidential experience. Looking at the 20th century we get Wilson, Coolidge, FDR, Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush II. That's success, failure, success, failure, success, success, failure. Four out of seven isn't great.

By followed them you mean Biden.
And Gore is quite smart, you just don't like him.

Exactly. (oh its adjunct law professor actually). He didn’t do much before his present occupation*
*terrorist communist terrorist seeking to undermine the good, Christian foundations of totally not socialist America.
His law review and book bio denote his Kenyan origin however.
ya because a book bio is proof of citizenship now and is more legally binding than a birth certificate right?
Because his father was Kenyan he was probably a dual citizen til he turned 18, then the US no longer recognizes dual citizenship.

Ah yes, very clever. Automatically Appended Next Post: Kovnik Obama wrote:Is it safe to assume that at least a large number of birther's are racially motivated ?
I think the birther movement would be a lot more coherent if racism really was a strong theme.
Instead, I think it's just the result of US politics becoming increasingly silly in the last decade and a half, give or take. I remember people complaining about Bush wasn't legally elected, and when I asked them why they thought that, they'd list all the bad stuff Bush had done in office, as if being a bad president meant they weren't really elected in the first place.
It's just kind of a childish, emotional reaction, he's not the guy I liked, so he couldn't possibly have been really elected. Automatically Appended Next Post: Kilkrazy wrote:Looking at previous elections, how many white presidents or candidate have had their legitimacy challenged on the grounds of birth?
Looking at previous elections, how many have been challenged by the opposition party at all? You've got Hayes in 1876, and then basically nothing until 2000. Now 1876 and 2000 were both very close elections with significant electoral issues, so dispute in both those cases makes sense.
But then in 2004 the Democrats made a hell of a noise about various electoral discrepancies, despite Bush having recorded a very comfortable win and none of those discrepancies being anywhere near enough to impact the final result. The Birther stuff now may be even sillier than those complaints, but it's likely motivated by the same stuff - the political divide is so strong now that people find it unthinkable that 'their side' might be out of office, so they become willing to believe stuff that says their guy should be in office, even if it's really, really stupid.

One could make a far better (but still not very good) argument about Bush's legitimacy from how it ended up being based off of a court ruling. But yeah, just doing bad things doesn't mean he wasn't legitimately elected.

Well the difference is Obama himself admitted his use of drugs, so he beat them to the punch. If they run stories about it Obama just says "Yes, I did. I said so in my autobiography, I do not believe in keeping secrets about myself from the American people." Then he get's a huge boost because people see him as a really honest guy. If he hadn't spoken about it before and then got called up on it it would be very damaging, so it was a smart move to get it out there on his own terms.

Thats doesn't cut it. Romney has admitted he's rich. Still lots of stories about it and his upbringing as a rich kid. if it were a Republican we would have been entertained with endless stories about his drug use and association with radicals. We would have been party to his links to radical law movements (critical race theory) and socialist groups that came out in the last six months. We'd also know more about his grades, and gruesome detail about the types of dog he ate. Look at how they went after Bush's past. he admitted he had a past but they continued to go after it.
News flash, neither of these turkeys are anything like me, or anyone I am friends with. We're talking a campaign featuring a multimillionaire vs. a multimillionaire. Its not relevant. How they are going to manage the country (or have mismanaged it at this point) is.

I guess the difference is that Obama did drugs quite some time ago and Romney still is rich. Past <-> Present.
I'm also surprised that anyone really thinks that it's the Democrats who are throwing the most dirt around, considering certain Republican TV spots and other campaign methods etc. It should be fairly obvious who turned this election into what it is.
Rupert Murdoch?
I mean...
He has been accused several times of playing politics and using his media empire to create a divided US political ideology so he can make more money...
He's also been accused of doing the same (or similar) in the UK IIRC.
He's been accused of trying, it's starting to tell but it's a different audience really...
That said the recession gave him the perfect opening...

When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. Saying the Media (whatever that is) is in the tank for Obama won't save Romney.

My problem with nearly all accusations of media bias is that they clearly suffer from observer bias. When you want to see bias, you are more likely to.
It makes assigning any actual validity difficult, beyond a sort of gut feeling.

Am I the only person who thinks Game of Thrones is boring? After episode one its been kind of a slog except for the Dothrakians. Admittedly I am only in Season One but I'm not buying the other seasons at this rate.
