Lol, BF3 radically different.

Suuuuuuure.

BF3, and the BF series in general, plays like just another generic modern-setting fps game, to me.

Yeah, if you're only playing on the small scale maps with no vehicles and the Team Deathmatch modes...

Exactly the same!

When playing BF3 with vehicles, on Conquest/Rush---it is an entirely different experience.

Keep telling yourself that, you seem to believe it after all.

I saw nothing special in my play through its SP and MP. Just another modern setting shooter.

Thankfully, at least I didn't have to pay for it.

The SP was garbage. There's no doubt, at all, about that.

Playing the MP on Battlefield 3 however is something completely different.

Unless of course by "Battlefield games" you were referring to those "only thing they have in common with Battlefield is the name Battlefield" games in the Bad Company line-up: which were, again, garbage.

All Mario games are the same. And they suck as well, which Nintendo don't seem to realise. Actually Nintendo don't seem to realise anything, they just churn out any old rubbish. Eventually, I can see Nintendo going down the rain after spewing out the 56th Mario game and thinking : What went wrong? Nuff said.

If you don't like the Mario games that is fine, but you honestly don't understand why they keep making games that ship huge numbers? Do you think Nintendo hates money?

I hate any game that is PVP except for RTS games. I'm absolutely terrible at FPS games, especially on console, so I have almost no interest in them if the primary game play is PVP. I had fun with the Halo games because they have nice graphics and a decent campaign, but I almost never played PVP. I have no interest in Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, or any other FPS of that style, and when I played WoW I played only PVE.

Dunon, I consider there to be a differnce between games I'm bad at, and games I enjoy.

I'm really, really bad at soul calibur and the dbz fighting games, but I still enjoy them.

They're definitely billions of times more fun than the bog standard fighting games (ST, Tekken, KoF, BlazBlue, MK, and the other generic boring ones that could basically end up just being clones of eachother but with different graphics).

Back OT, I don't get Minecraft at all. It's just so 'meh'. And I also don't see the appeal in 'Dead Space'. Why? Why do games developers do this to me? The fact that I was just too much of a damn p***y to finish it has nothing to do with it. Nothing, ya hear!..

Focusing only on games I have actually played or at least watched (thats how Borderland made it for me) I have 2 more to add

Bioshock ... this game looks so unappealing to me. I dont know why anyone gives a damn about it.

Dead Space. I was actually disgusted in the game. when I first heard about it I thought it was really cool, a survival horror on a spaceship? sounds like im living Alien with Resident Evil, should be awsome.

I encounter, a game that makes THIS HUGE fething DEAL ABOUT THIS fething slowed RELIGION. The enemies also were pretty easy to kill that I stopped considering a threat. I played with my friends in the room (their game) and we were laughing because how much I stopped caring (Quote of the game "Alien, meet lightbulb") The biggest threat in the game was those mini muncher dudes that we called "Nom Noms" (Seriously, I grew terrifed of them because I would never notice them until they were noming on me)

Bioshock. I didn't hate it, but it I thought the hype was excessive. The twist was weak, and the combat was easy. Mass Effect reminded me of it in the sense that the world was fantastic, but the story and experience of the world was unimpressive. That said, I own both, and will buy Infinite, but that's largely because even mediocre single-player games often catch my interest; though I had high hopes for Bioshock.

Halo series. In multiplayer its a crap version of Quake.

The Section 8 series bothers me, but only because no one plays it post Tribes launch.

Every CoD post MW1, which is self-explanatory. Though I will say that BloPs 2 has great promise.

BF3.

They did make Deus Ex: HR, which was pretty good.

The whole FF franchise however is a bit tiring.

Let me clarify my position.

I said Square-Enix, not Square. Square, when it was just Square in the past, was amazing. Pretty much up to about FF9/10 or so it was all pretty solid products, and their 16-bit stuff was defining of a generation.

But. But. BUT.

What Square-Enix has become has become nothing short of an embarrassment of lazy, bad production and dropping quality. Let's go with some of their bigger franchies:

Final Fantasy - I think we all know this, one. Like it or not, the series is crap now. It wasn't crap at one point, but it is now. They've boiled gameplay down to practically nothing and have stories that are, in a single pithy word, godawful. Characters are no longer relatable or even likable, let alone consistent with anything. Personally, I felt the story quality of the FF franchise began dropping around FF8, and reached a burning crash at FF10. The gameplay elements actually began dropping at FF6, but don't get the torches out yet. FF6 is my favorite FF game and probably the best game of the 16-bit era, but it was the first FF game where the characters stopped mattering in gameplay itself. With Espers and easy levelling areas and difficulty-breaking relics, it no longer mattered who was in your party since everyone was doing the same thing. This began a trend where tactics and party selection were relegated to "GET LIMIT BREAK/SUMMON AND SPAM" and any challenge withered away to nothing. Every final boss since around Zeromus (FF4) was a joke in difficulty unless the player artificially limited themselves somehow.

Kingdom Hearts - Another story of great promise and increasing disappointment and disgust. Kingdom Hears, at least the core games (1 and 2) are some of my favorite gameplay styles I've seen in an RPG in a long time. It is a great mix of action, tactics, challenge and speed. It is dynamic and engaging. However, the KH story is, and let's not kid ourselves here, fething atrocious. ESPECIALLY when you consider the tangled, horrifying clusterfeth of backstory and side-story that all of the games side-quels brought into the mix. The story in KH1 was a nice, simple bit of good vs evil with fanservice, but once you hit KH2 and the sidequels, it is as if they turned the writing direction over to the very worst fanfiction writers. They have created a story that is at once childish and impenetrable at the same time. I have no idea what possessed them, but they have managed to write all my interest out of the story simply because they are refusing to go anywhere with it. We complain about 40k's story not moving forward, KH is damn near ready to go backward. The only hope for this series is in a complete new, AAA-level game (no more crappy handhelds kthx!) that has a story entirely separate from that crap. I have my doubts of it.

Arkham Asylum and Deus Ex: Human Revolution - SE did not develop either of these, they published it. Human Revolution was developed by Eidos and Arkham Aslylum by Rocksteady Studios/Feral Interactive. They did not have a hand in what the actual game was. Don't give them credit for what is not theirs.

Super Mario RPG/Mana series/Chrono Trigger - Almost all of these are pretty darn good. Shame that SE has decided they are tired of making good products.

Bottom line, Square-Enix has burnt all of the goodwill I have had for it with gameplay and story decisions that reek of 'we are so dominant that we do not need to try anymore' dominance. This is not a knee-jerk hatred of anime/JRPG/whatever, as there are games out there that do JRPGs really, really well (Lost Odyssey) and still manage to have good gameplay and writing. The games that used to be titans in the past are now things I actively avoid and SE has nothing but scorn from me. But keep in mind that I do not WANT to scorn SE, I'd love to go to the days where a new Final Fantasy thrilled me and I couldn't wait to do it, but I simply am no longer giving SE money to reinforce its bad habits. It's like a good friend who, in high school was the coolest guy ever, but come back after college and you find a burned out junkie or something, trying to act like he did not clearly failing at it. Any support you give this friend is used to fuel bad habits and he needs to kick the habit.

I fully agree. RPG's in general just ain't what they used to be. Note: Dark Souls, Mass Effect, and to an extent Dragon Age is not included as they are not what I think of when I think RPG.

Why is it so difficult to make a Turn based game anymore? Like Legend of Dragoon or the Older Final Fantasies?

If you haven't tried it, I recommend picking up Lost Odyssey on the 360. It's a little old, but still a great example of a more traditional, turn-based JRPG that does it well. Amazing soundtrack to boot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKpOeVGjB0k&feature=related

The Gothic series. Of what I played, and that's to say not a lot, they were buggy pieces of crap. I'd say you could get away with its lackings if it were an older game, but things like a lack of a consistent quest log (which is alright....in a game that allows you to do what you want)...or just not being attacked mid way through a pivotal plot conversation would be nice. =P

Assassin's Creed. I like the premise, but at least on PC, the game doesn't feel streamlined enough. I don't know if it was me, but the acrobatics just didn't work they way they came across in the concept. =/

Left 4 Dead. I didn't realise it was just going to be a rail shooter when I bought it. I prefer slightly more realistic zombie games...and having to blow my way through a corridor of zombies doesn't do it for me. I know that's not what the game's about, and Valve love their silliness, but going into the game thinking it was going to be something else just didn't do it for me. I guess after Team Fortress 2 they wanted to do something more serious, but it just wasn't right in my opinion. Hmn, wonder if DayZ's gotten out of Alpha yet....
