Yeah, sure, I thought he TL'd all melta weapons, that's where I was coming from. Thinking about the wording now though I think I recall it saying Mg's, MM's flamers and HF's, not specifically anything with the melta rule. No codex to check.

Yep, Vulkan's entry specifies the weapon names(flamer, heavy flamer, melta, multi-melta).

Love those side sponsons... the rounded turret is growing on me too.

Sadly my local meta doesn't really approve of FW in most games, so even when I start my salamanders this would have to be a stand in.

I see a very, very nice pre heresy style Baal Pred. Also LOVE the melta turrent. 10/10

Edit: Could this be the design that the BA "stole" from the Adeptus Mechanus?

I think a large blast is a little much for those points/stats. Small blast maybe. I'm not fond of the FW rules I've seen.

Is a nice looking tank though...

It's an 18" range gun and it can't shoot it if it moves over six inches. Why would you take this over a vindicator? It's not a particularly great tank in game.

Priced a bit more than a vindicator..shorter range better chance against armor but less ID threat for mounted things, I think they got this one right.

Wow.. large blast melta. I guess the natural balance to that is that you have to get pretty close with its range being less than a multimelta.

Sure, if you want the Melta effect. I see this being used more often as an anti-2+ save weapon, though.

I'd probably say the vindicator does the anti-2+ job better though. I don't have the codex nearby but it seems from other posts that it's marginally cheaper, has better range, and can instakill one T higher than this can. This one the other hand is marginally better versus vehicles at close range (8+2d6 with +2 on damage is a bit better than 10+highest d6 of 2d6 with +1 on the chart) and mounts the gun on a turret for a better arc. I think from the reaction in this thread that it'll be instead rather used by the preheresy crowd as a Baal.

I think the one with the triple plasma cannon is the best deal if you want to kill Termies specifically, and is 25 pts cheaper.

I really like this tank. Doubtful to get one... unless I start a pre-heresy army... DON'T TEMPT ME!!

Also, for FW, the rules are useable, which is always a nice treat.

Questions with the melta rule on the magna-melta:

a) Does the whole template have to be placed within 9" to gain 2d6 armour pen and will gain the melta rule regardless of scatter?
b) If not, does the centre of of the template have to be within 9" and will gain the melta rule regardless of scatter?
c) If the template scatters beyond 9" even if it's original target was within 9", does it still gain 2d6 armour pen?
d) Do you measure 9" from the barrel and if an enemy is both within that range and underneath the template does it gain 2d6 armour pen?
e) Does it always gain 2d6 armour pen regardless of distance or scatter?

These are important questions.

Are you within 9" of the thing you hit? If yes, Melta. Not rocket surgery.

Bigger tank, yes. Not a bigger cannon. Look at the size of the gun on that Predator!

Here's what I reckon. I have the experimental rules for it. Buy Baal Preda, arm with Flamestorm and HFs and presto! Fire Pred for my SM and just omit any BA icons and replace with Blood Raven Transfers!

Hey, you realise that Melta isn't new right? You get one on the Caestus Assault Ram (plus option of Skyfire from the flyer).

Why does it always come down to size.....?

Seriously though, I love the old school look. But even if I played SM, I wouldn't
spend the coin on it. And I know about wasting money on awesome FW models
that are useless: I have 6 IG Salamander Scout vehicles.
But a great looking model!

I concur. They really should have used the old style weapons on the whole Deimos series.

I think flat out this tank was designed as a "because Will Hayse wants to and CAN!" I mean in the description the fluff behind the tank is a veiled " you" to the Blood Angels for not sharing the Baal STC.

The style is designed to be a match for the Contemptor pattern Dread-NOT! and the Tartar Sauce Terminators.
