there really isn't a bad FoC for Vanilla Marines. Elites and FA are pretty good, HQ is a ditto, and the troops are pretty solid(especialy with 6th edition.)

I will have to agree that, until very recently, FA was almost universally an underused slot. Speeder focused Vanilla marines and Daemons being exceptions.

Other codices would occasionally use their FA units, but they were not a mainstay of the army. Like Deffcoptas for Orks or Gargoyals for Nids.

And with blast rules getting buffed, vindicators(maybe whirlwinds too) got scarier, able to wipe a bunch of units the board, yes even your precious tanks.

For Tau? Man, I'd have to say HQ. Fire Warriors get a lot of hate, but they've always been worth the points to me. Watching a rapid fire volley kill belial's squad using only 1 markerlight was pretty solid. Meanwhile, we overpay for everything in HQ, don't get any really great choices, and the slot includes space pope.

No, really. Space pope's dying words to my tau were "go home", and literally every squad obeyed. That troll list made ME mad.

For my Space Wolves its Fast Attack. I love the land Speeder Typhoon, but thats about it. Am no fan of cavalry.
HQ, ELITS, TROOPS and HEAVY SUPPORT are all awesome.

I agree i think that the Guard Codex in this edition is borderline OP with some of the rules in play , But anyway i personally think that none of my FOC charts are a waste really , i use all except 1 at 2000 points

I don't get how people voted Troops, it is the one FoC that is useful in almost every game regardless of opponent.

Because "useful" and "mandatory" are not the same thing. A unit which is only good for sitting on an objective isn't useful, even if you have to take them anyway if you want to win.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

So your argument is winning the game isn't useful? And as for a unit that is only useful for sitting on an objective, I can only think of one unit that genuinely fits that bill; Cultists. And even then, just sitting on an objective is useful; it helps win you the game and frees up other units to do other things.

Not when that's ALL they're doing. An army with bad troops still has to take troops to win the game, but that doesn't change the fact that troops are that awful unit you're required to take, not that useful unit you want to fill your FOC with.

As a BT player, anything that isn't Elites or HQ (which is good because we get more Elites from it). I voted for FA despite the fact that Typhoon speeders are decent, but I could've gone for HS or Troops as well.

Hi Hi,

I actually find myself saying heavy support for most armies and fast attack as my favourite.

Chaos: FA has spawn/drake/bikes etc while heavy support does have good stuff but it can all be replicated by troops and elites, and I usually prefer to distribute my heavy weapons across squads instead of just having one or two units devoted for it. Maybe it's just because heavy support can usually be replicated. *shrugs*

IG: Vendetta,s hellhounds all in FA while HS just has big tanks which I don't tend to have a need for having autocannons and melta distributed in troops.

The only exception would be for 'Crons and DE both of whihc have a very cheap but simple HS gunboat the annihalation barge or ravager which doesn't eat many points and just fits into the list well.

As a BT player, troops. I hate my crusader squads with a passion, and only take them 1) because I have to, and 2) they're the only scoring units I have. If I had the money, I would be using the FA and HS slots the most. Currently, it's the elites.

As someone who's starting blood angels, the fast attack seems the least useful. Elites, however, is where it gets crowded fast

For me , CSM , it has to be elite , at >2000 point games i usually don't play elites just because they're tad too expensive and can sometimes fail miserably (in my experience anyway haha )

Fav is HQ just cos i love my characters , Abbie <3

so you only ever take 2 troops per detachment?

Being scoring in all games is a vital ability. Just as being able to kill things, move fast, or survive things is an ability in the game.

Not to mention that troops can be the mainstay of a gunline or a CC horde(depending on the army you choose). For me i have 1 10 man tacs and 2 5 man tacs to hold ground until the enemy gets in range of my guns, then I blast him to oblivion.

Bezerkers as troops are very scary, especially in metul bawkes: they shred anyone they get close to, and they can score.

For Eldar, I would have said Heavy Support, but then I remembered War Walkers.
So, Elites are the worst/least-used choice. Fire Dragons are handy, but there are other ways to get the job done.
The others were killed off with Overwatch, mostly.

You haven't played against many tau players have you?

depends for me, fast attack if i'm not playing mech (pirahna's are stupid in 6th) if i am then it's troops

This is a meaningless question. Different Force Organization Chart sections aren't inherently more or less competitive than any others overall, only in context of different Codexes; my Eldar may ignore Fast Attack because they don't have good choices there, but my Dark Angels swear by their Ravenwing units. Heavy Support likewise doesn't see much play in my airborne IG detachment, but my Dark Eldar would never win a game if they didn't have their Razorwings.

My CSM: No idea, the new book really doesn't feel great to me.

My Eldar: Elites or Troops. FDs for Elites and <insert 2 squads of whatever here> for Troops.

My Tau: Fast Attack. Tetras are pretty much the only thing in there, or 1 squad of Pathfinders if I'm not allowed to use Forgeworld rules.

My Necrons: Elites/Fast Attack. 1 Triarch Stalker for Elites, and a single unit of 3 Scarab Bases for FA.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
