So, what slot of the Forge Org chart do you find yourself not using competetively? As a Nids player, I find that I never, ever, run Fast Attack choices. Gargoyles are good, and Raveners seem solid, but I just never need them in my lists. The new FA mission also hurts, why would I want togive my opponent extra VPs? I already have 6 scoring units, plus whatever the Tervigons yield. For the same reason I only ever use a singlesquad of Biovores as my HS, for points fill and efficient blasting. My 2k list fills out Troops, HQ, and Elites, but only has 1 HS and no Fast Attack.

So what do you give the least love? No good Heavy Support in the codex? Take two base squads and a cheap HQ so you can run the Big Gunz? Whatever the case, post a bit about what army you play and why!

I think the Ork codex is very well balanced here, even if the choices in a given slot aren't.

I rarely forgo a slot completely : elite brings Lootaz and Nobz, troops Boyz, Fast attack means Koptas / Buggies and Dakkajets, while Heavy Support gives you Battlewagons and Killa kans.

I play veteran IG, and it's elites, by far. HQ and troops are always awesome and the only reason not to fill them is when you're playing a smaller game, while fast and heavy are almost always full in anything above 1000 points. Elites, on the other hand, are almost always empty* unless I'm taking my DKoK heavy mortars to go with a static heavy support setup.

*Since Marbo is separate. IG FOC: 1-2 HQ, 2-6 troops, 1 Marbo, 0-2 elite, 0-3 fast, 0-3 heavy.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

As a Necron player, Elite choices. In fifth edition I had a super-shooty list with a pair of Triarch Stalkers, but now I rarely have anything in my Elite slots.

For me,

DE: FA or elites(but but, blasterborns!) depending on the list.
Necrons: Elites, so expensive, so niche...

But it really depends on the army and list.

For me, Fast attack is by far my least used. Just don't ever find myself needing any of the options that come in the C:SM --- but, that doesn't mean I may not use them in the future.

It is gonna vary per army played but I feel like elites are the least seen on boards as a whole. Fast attack contains, Bike's, Speeders, Wraiths, Flyers which are all seen regularly in games.

Sadly I selected fast, even though my main army was IG. I played 3 vendettas soon as my store had the models. However in every other army I've played FA always seemed the weakest, or most lacking.

For C:SM it's troops, minimum 10 marines to unlock a heavy and special weapon is a heavy tax to pay for an expensive squad that doesn't particularly excel at anything, scouts are meh except for the sniper squad that contains telion.

Since you must have troops because they are mandatory and to score fast attack ends up being my least used force org slot.

This certainly used to be true, but now we have fliers.

Outside of this, though, yeah, most FA choices are pretty pants. Mostly because they're not actually all that much faster in most cases.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I think that elites are probably the most under-rated slot in the game. Most elites choices units are expensive, and come with a lot of mandatory goodies. Getting full use out of all those things you're spending those points on can be tricky. Properly played, and with sufficient points thrown into them, I've certainly seen elites choices decide a game, whether it's a properly-used squad of 10x terminators or three squads of outflanking chosen, etc.

Part of the problem too with most elites is that they work at a more strategic level than most other choices, so, at first glance, they seem crummy because their cost to killing power ratio is rather high.

I voted for FA even though I play IG. I have tried out many of the non-flyer units(I even have the models!) and they just aren't very good. If you don't want to spam Vendettas, the FA slot is IMHO a bit worse than the elite slot.

Pretty much this.

For DE, it's the HQ slot.

You take a haemonculus, Baron or Duke or you take dead weight that will require many more points and slots investments to become useful.

It's codex dependent.

Daemons, for example have horrible troops, but great fast attack.
Orks, on the other hand have horrible fast attack but great troops.

It largely depends on the codex, as each codex has stronger units in some slots, and weaker units in others.

Necrons: Elites are by far the worst choice in the codex. The only thing that is reasonably costed are Deathmarks, and they are merely good, not great. Praetorians and Lychguard are both too expensive for what you get, Stalkers are too vulnerable, and Flayed Ones are both overpriced and out of place (they might be playable if they costed 10-11 points and/or were a troops choice instead of an elite).

Space Marines: Troops, easily. Thats not to say a tac marine is particularly bad, but given the quality of our other options you rarely want to take more than you need to (especially if you are taking bikers or Pedro to give you scoring sternguard).

Tau: Probably FA. HQ gives you crisis suits, Elites gives you crisis suits, Heavy Support gives you Broadside suits, and Troops gives you fire warriors, which are quite good now. However, Fast Attack doesn't really offer much outside of Piranhas, which are overpriced land speeders with worse guns, and Pathfinders, which are decent but not by any means great. If you are playing with Forge World, the Tetra might boost FA above HQ, but that isn't guaranteed.

Before fliers, FA was normally just bad all around the board.

After fliers, FA suddenly got taken.

As it stands thought, it's all based on the book.
