What do I expect to get?

A CSM lord, and a unit of terminators

Spear of Sicarius, plox? Its alright that its $1800, you just have to save up, mom.

What I realistically want: Tac squad, drop pod, and an assault squad.

I don't have holiday gift lists.
I get my gaming stuff when I want to buy it (I have a monthly amount I do not go over - and I buy larger things at the bigger cons - where the dealers gather and bargains can be had).

I don't get usually get gaming products as gifts - except for this one time back in the 3rd ed days when a mate bought me a 40k figure (Karandras, the Phoenix lord) which I've still never used in a game.

If I have to put something down I'd put some paints. I need sculpting putty but I can't with good conscious ask for "Citadel Green Stuff" when there is Kneadatite. It's the same with their tools. And brushes. And models.

Their paints are the only thing I still hold dear. And the smoking hot local store manager. So she's on my gift list as well.
