Finally getting around to getting some progress done on the Withershadow Combine redo. Sculpted in the skirts and armor bitz. Need a second layer of shoulder on Tremulos, and they'll all need some cleaning when the putty is harder. Then need arms and a book and a puppet.

And some more Withershadow work. Got their shoulders all done and the first layer of Malus' and Tremulos' gauntlets as well as all of their head/neck ornamentation/armor stuffes. Need to look thru the Reaper wall at the flgs this weekend to find a good book for Admonia then get her claws on to fit. Tremulos needs his puppet. People loved the little puppet I made for him before, so I wanna make sure I make him a sweet one this time, though it probably won't double as a removable Puppet Strings token again. Lastly Malus needs some cloth over the hood and shoulders then a new spine put back on, then finish the gauntlets on all three. So much effort going into these almost completely tournament illegal figs...

These are - by far - the best Hormachine conversions I've ever seen.

Alright, Withershadow are all done with the exception of Tremulous' Marionette I do believe, and I've decided how I'm going to make that and gotten started on it. Might not post any pictures of that till it's painted though, dunno, we'll see.

Good job replicating the originals and the detail putty work is nice.
I probably missed the reasoning, and I'm showing my lack of Necron knowledge, but why are you making them bigger?

When I first did it it was in big part a joke troll to mess with the Warmachine crowd who were all pretty anti-Warhammer, and consisted of not a lot more than just swapping out the Cryx heads for Necron heads. Overtime I got more into it, and it developed more into a fun modeling project, and commentary on the army turned into less rage and more how cool the stuff was. After Necron got their new Codex/models and the last Warmachine Weekend I decided to get much more serious with the army and updating/upgrading the Necronization of the army as well as giving them a better paint job. Been mixing in a lot more Necron parts, like the torsos and weapons.

Get down to the Withershadow Combine and they're too small to really properly combine with the Necron kits, so I used the standard allotment of Necron parts, then rebuilt the Withershadow parts in a scale to fit.

I really need to buckle down and get more things converted over and painted up quicker if I'm going to make my goal for this year's Warmachine Weekend of having an army that I feel I can set on the big display table and feel like it belongs there. I don't think I'd win Master Craftsmen or anything because the guy in charge of WMW isn't terribly fond of hefty use of Warhammer models and themes though, so it's more just a personal goal.

Oh, I see. The little ones are Warmachine models (I know even less about that than I do Necrons). I'm with you now; it's a warmachine army with necron parts, not a necron army with warmachine parts.

Although, would you be able or are you planning on using them for both games?

Good luck getting them done in time.

Nah, they're very distinctly designed for the Cryx rules and don't use correct weapon configurations for Necrons.

And all three of the finished Withershadow Combine in one shot. Will have to get them all painted up now, likely before the weekend as my Dremel is broken and keep me from doing a lot of modeling till I can get a replacement part after I get paid this weekend.

And last for this night's efforts on my own Cryx are a few mkIII Bane Thralls. Removing the Bane Thrall arms from their upper torsos and cleaning up all the detail on them proved to be a giant pane because of the way they're often practically hugging themselves. The solution these employed is to use Bane Knight arms instead, as those are nice, separate bitz that even have a nice ball joint that fits into Necron shoulder sockets. Need to start throwing more of the old Thralls into the stripper vat and get a production line of these going.

Ha ha, like the puppet dude. You should give the puppet a puppet and it'd be like a certain album cover...

Latest chaps look mean as... Good job.

Nice, now that I have fresh 'cron heads, I may revisit one of my nasty lords the Cryx Dragonslayer, and give him a more Necronic face

Work in progress of painting up the Withershadow Combine, in case anyone cares about my method. First two pictures are one, then two coats of Auric Armor Gold layer paint from Citadel. Third picture is Runefang Steel layer paint. Also touch up any spots I got the steel paint on the gold areas.Fourth and fifth pictures are one, then two coats of Seraphim Sepia wash. Should hopefully have the rest of it all done tonight.

More painting! First picture I've painted up the robes, using all four of the different shades of blue I've been using on my Banes. Also highlighted the steel to bring back more of the silver color to it, while trying to keep the shading in the recesses. Also painted the wires under the rib cages.

Second picture I've given them a moderately heavy black wash over the entire model.

Third picture is a really heavy blue wash over just the robes.

Four picture I've painted the bases black, their various little gems green, and the book and marionette strings a brown and flesh.

Final batch of in progress painting pictures! First show has the base arcs given a white undercoat and the writing added into the book in a lightly browned red.

Then I forgot to take some progress shots, so the arcs are now painted gold for the unit leader and silver for the other two, then given two coats of sepia wash like on the armor. The book and marionette strings are given a brown wash. Also, I've left one job and gone to the next job, so the lighting conditions changed.

Highlight the top rim of the silver bases.

Good coat of black wash on the base arcs to finish.

I'll get a better quality All Finished picture taken after I get their basing done later.

Kind of done. I forgot to pack the Warscythe blades and butts, and I won’t glue the shield arms on till after they’re painted, but all the Bane Thralls in this batch are finished.

Want to start working on rebuilding my Jacks and getting them converted over to the updated style. First up will be Erebus and Malice as I've had unbuilt kits for them for awhile. Here's some early shots of some of the components. Giving Erebus a Seether cowl and Malice a Reaper cowl. Want to mess with those torsos a bit more though which is why I've not attached the new cowls yet. Also showing off what I think I'm going to be doing for the Deathclaws on my jacks, something more mechanical and grabby rather than pencil fingered claws. Can also see the old Malice's harpoon, which I'll be reusing because I still like it and it would be more trouble than its worth to disassemble and rebuild it. Lastly the heads I'll be using. Want to mimic their actual heads a bit, thus Erebus is getting a long face made from two Wraith heads, and I'll work out some kind of psuedo underbite thing for Malice's head.

Been collecting Ork/Orc Choppas for my Bloodgorger redo for awhile now, and finally got around to putting the first unit of them together. All that collecting really paid off as I managed to get a full twenty weapons without having two identical weapons anywhere in the unit. Still have another ~5 unique weapons yet still for when I get around to working on the second unit. Also managed twenty different shoulder pads for them all out of the Nob box as well. Speaking of the Nob box, the Unit Leader of course got himself a Power Klaw, Iron Gob and Boss Pole.

And if I'm doing Bloodgorgers, I need a Gerlak, so here's a Warboss Gerlak Slaughterborn in progress. Made primarily from a metal Trollkin Bouncer. Still clearly needs a good bit of work. Want to spike up his back and one shoulder with some spikes from a Trygon kit I've got. Use smaller spikes or make some for his quills. Resculpt his upper arms/elbows. Might give him a skirt like the official model has. Assorted Ork parts like a new shoulder pad and Boss Pole to be added as well. Plan to have him and the Bloodgorgers all finished by the end of the month for this month's Play it Painted pledge.

Over half way thru the month, and I’ve not quite got this first third of my painting pledge done. These guys just need a blue wash on the blue cloth portions, and then get their bases painted black with silver front arcs. Then paint six more like em and one double sized boss to lead em all before the end of the month. Really gonna have to knuckle down on these.
