Nihilistic Necron Lord

Got to get a few things finished up so I can use them in a tournament here in a couple weeks. Right off I had to get the new Bane Riders because they're sweet. To keep them a bit more distinct than both the Bane Thralls and Bane Knights I used the Immortal bodies, and their swords are made from a mash up of the Phase Swords and War Scythes so they've got a bit more beef than the weaker Bane Thrall swords. Couldn't think of a particularly good way to Necron up the horses and didn't want to force it, so to help tie them together I literally tied them together by having the Banes plug into the horses to control them. When I get thru and do some gap filling I'm going to see about filling in the eye slits on the horses to emphasize their lack of control. These are my primary Play It Painted pledge for this month so they should be painted up here soon as well.

Picked up one of the new undead Skull Horses to use as a mount for Goreshade3. Gotta admit, it's bigger than I thought it'd be... Connects to the base better than I thought from looking at the box, with the obvious tail contact, then a ghost that helps support the tail, and finnaly another ghost that connects to one foot. Should be quite sufficient to hold it all up, though it forces the center of gravity forward when I had planned to use that tail contact to connect to the very back edge of the base and better center the body of the horse over it. Figure I'll get some big washers to help weight the base heavily. Won't have the funds to pick up Goreshade himself for another couple of weeks so I'll work on that and converting the ghosts into partially formed Banes in the meantime. Plus I have a bunch of other Warcasters I need to assemble as well.

Digging this back up again as I finally get around to doing more work on my Warmachine stuff in reaction to an escalation league at the flgs. I've got my Goreshade3 mostly finished. Just needs some reins to keep that giant skull horse in check. Will have to hit up the hobby shop this weekend to check out their stock of brass rod for some appropriate stuff.

Did some more small detail work on Goreshade and his Giant Floating Skull Horse. Wanted to add stuff to blend it more into the whole army's theme.

Added a pair of Leviathan Cowls to the back thighs to give it more armor, which will help spread the color out more when it's painted, though it's still going to be the biggest organic undead thing in the army.

To then better Necron it up I added the Necron symbol from the Lych Guard shield to GFSH's front armor, popped the little symbols back off from the sides and replaced them with Necron skulls, and then moved one of the little symbols to Goreshade's chest. Also removed the spike from between Goreshade's shoulders and replaced it with a Necron spine.

Lastly I got the reins in. The plastic ones from the original kit were not going to work. They were too thin and fragile and not going to look right, so I picked up some brass strips. Looked up some reference pictures online about how to actually hold horse reins rather than just doing a generic loop thru the fist and I think I came reasonably close. From what I saw he should have his thumb over the top, and the reins coming out above his pinkie rather than the bottom of the hand, but that would have required some tiny cutting and I figured this was good enough.

Give that sculpting putty a bit of time to cure here and then I'll prime it up and start painting this and my previously built unit of Bane Riders tonight at work and see if I can't get those all finished up in less than two weeks time, as I'll be missing next week's game night at the FLGS.

Been distracting myself making some terrain for the flgs, but now I need to knuckle down and get these painted. Got the first coat of gold on them tonight, which is about the most annoying/tedious part of painting up my scheme. Should hopefully finish up the armor tomorrow night.

I do love me some GFSH

Someday I'll figure out a use for the mortarch mount, definitely one of my favorite models from this End Times nonsense ... Meanwhile, your Necryxian pony is a superb one

Definitely taking longer to paint these than I thought/wanted. Still not gotten the armor finished but I did get all the gold and silver coats down, just need a couple coats of the sepia wash. Should, I hope, have that and at least the base coats of the blue skirts and straps done during an extra overtime work shift on Sunday. Really hoping to have these finished by Wednesday.

Got more than I had hoped to done today during my extra overtime work shift. Was able to get both coats of sepia wash onto the armor, painted their skirts the blues and washed them with crimson/violet/blue, and then even got the horses' coats painted their base colors. Will get those washed and start working on their exposed bones and inner bits tomorrow night, as well as start working on painting Goreshade's Giant Floaty Skull Horse.

Oh man, so close now with these. Bane Riders just need some highlighting before their all over black wash, then get their weapons and green orbs. Goreshade's got more left, he needs his dark blue leathers and some highlighting and touchups before his all over black, but then painting all those glowy soul skulls is going to be an annoying chore to do. Need to pick me up a bright yellow for those while I'm putting in a shift at the flgs today.

Well I have failed in my goal of having all of these done by today. Got close though. Bane Riders need the orbs on their swords done green and then their bases done. Goreshade's got more left. Need to touch up the white on the skulls, then go thru and paint all of those skulls yellow. Then glaze the skulls green. Glue his sword and front armor piece back on, then get his base done as well. Revised goal, have them done before Sunday, which Should be easy.

99.9% finished! I just need to varnish them, which I have to do before reattaching Goreshade's sword or glueing him to his flight stand so the varnish doesn't mess with the clear acrylic they're both made of. Not entirely sure I like how the soul skulls on Goreshade's Giant Floaty Skull Horse (which I am henceforth naming Envy) came out. I mean they're not terrible, but I was hoping for something a bit brighter I think maybe. Still alright though. Also they were a giant pain in the patoot to paint so there's no way I want to try and redo them. I'll get more pictures with more angles put up this weekend after they're officially finished.

Yay! Finally got my Goreshade and his Bane Cav all finished! Even varnished these which is something I've not messed with for my Cryx yet. Used a Krylon flat because it's not too flat, and leave a bit of shine so it doesn't kill the metalics. Afterwards I brushed GW 'Ard Coat onto the green souls, orbs and crystals, pretty much everything green except the wires, to give them a nice bright shine. Goreshade's sword also got a coat of 'Ard Coat on the top side, leaving the underside frosted to give it a nice ice appearance rather than full translucent.

Next up I need to do another round of commission projects, and then it'll be Daragh Wraith and his vanguard of Soul Hunters, so yay more cav models.

Started my Soul Hunters, but not a lot to show with them yet. They come with the "human" part of their centaur bodies as a seperate piece which is great because it means I don't have to cut them off. Forgot to grab the fifth one before I left the house so just got these four here so far. I think I'm going to replace their given weapons with some Necron equivalents as is my way, though I'm not fully set on that because their given weapons are kind of cool looking, though not in my Necron aesthetic. We'll see.

MAYBE finished with the Soulhunters, minus some quick gap filling on the leader and another where I gave them the wrong front legs to create a bit more pose diversity. Otherwise I may look at adding some small Necron details to their scythes tomorrow night. Darragh Wraith is likewise finished, minus gap filling on the horse.

Bit of modeling work to turn Cryx Crab Jacks into my NeCryx Spyder Jack mkIIs. Primary plan is playing pairs of Leviathans but I magnetized their arms anyways so I can use whatever combinations of their varieties. Way try to get these painted up for the final stretch of the escalation league, which would make these the first Warjacks done in the new color scheme.
