Good on the Egyptians getting rid of him I say.
Good luck with that. The Muslim Brotherhood is the strongest power in Egypt outside of the Army.
Well, luckily for us, Egypt is a wee bit more educated overall than most of the Middle East which is why there's such a backlash against the Brotherhood...
All they want to do is impose Sharia Law as the new law of the land, prosecute the Christian minority, tear down the 'false idols' of the country's past and generally carry on like the radical religious idiots they truly are.
On the other hand, most of your average Egyptians (especially the younger generation who have been educated abroad and 'westernised' so to speak) want things like a proper economy, national stability and the return of the tourist industry that has been sadly non-existent the past two years.
But yes, things will "get fun" long before they actually get better.
Careful.....hasn't moved.....can fire all its weapons this turn.....keep your guys in cover........nvm....oooohhhhh Hell...this is going to hurt...

Egypt's military has drawn up a plan to suspend the Islamist-backed constitution, dissolve the Islamist-dominated legislature and set up an interim administration headed by the country's chief justice if President Mohammed Morsi fails to reach a solution with his opponents by the end of a Wednesday deadline, the state news agency reported.
The report Tuesday provided the first details on the road map that the military has said it will implement if Morsi fails to meet its ultimatum, as millions of protesters returned to the streets for the third straight day in their drive to force the Islamist president out of office.
Protesters turned to a new target, massing a giant crowd outside the Qasr el-Qobba presidential palace where Morsi has been working in recent days, in addition to filling wide avenues outside another palace, central Tahrir Square and main squares in cities nationwide.
It was not clear if Morsi was in the palace.
Morsi's supporters also increased their presence in the streets, after his Muslim Brotherhood and hard-line Islamist leaders called them out to defend the legitimacy of the country's first freely elected president. Tens of thousands held marches in Cairo and other cities. Clashes broke out around pro-Morsi marches in several parts of the capital and a string of cities to the north and south. Morsi opponents stormed Brotherhood offices in two towns.
With the clock ticking on the military's ultimatum, many in the anti-Morsi and pro-Morsi camps were vowing to fight to the end.
Gehad al-Haddad, a senior Muslim Brotherhood spokesman, told CBS News' Alex Ortiz the military's threat has changed the game.
Freaking shocking. When the military holds the power in a country what stops it from disobeying it's own rules?

Looks like the Egyptians didn't read the small print when they elected the Muslim brotherhood, it is however time that the people finally got rid of them.

I think it was always there, just unspoken, on the understanding that it would be done by the military.
What'll happen the next time a duly elected government of Egypt is thought to be rotten? more protests or will they get the hang of that voting thing next time?
It'll be interesting how the military is treated by the next few governments...

Indeed. Now we'll see if they pull a Turkey with the military acting to keep the government from becoming too radical-Ataturk style- or if this is back to the Saddat/Mubarak model of Egypt.

So, looks like it was a bloodless coup - While normally I'd be concerned with the military of any country taking control, in this case I'd suggest that compared to the Muslim Brotherhood, the Army is going to be much more "for the people"
And as an amateur historian, I breathe a sigh of relief that the historical monuments and such are safe from those fundamentalist morons.

I can't wait for next year when they do this again.
This should just be the standard election process.
I'm biased, but for the short term at least the army's probably the better of the two. Hopefully the people manage to get another election though, ie the army doesn't just instill their own leader because they've shown that they aren't allowed to have nice things. Though the army has said in effect, " that noise" when it comes to them ruling the country and they will be holding elections (fair or not) as soon as one will be viable.
Hey at bloodless coup is better than a bloody one/ a civil war between the pro and anti government groups right?

The Brotherhood were more like a dubiously elected government though
There was a lot of complaining at the time about everything from vote-fixing to not allowing other candidates to run a proper campaign to voter intimidation. Basically, everything you'd expect from an Islamist party.

I can't help but cynically say the same thing, but my friend at work (who is Egyptian) seems really happy about this result and the idea of Egypt moving towards a more secular and inclusive government.

I don't know. The Brotherhood won roughly five national elections in Egypt, "their" constitution passed referendum, etc. It seems a solid majority of Egyptians want them in charge.
