I wonder, if you were still of school age, and started attending classes wearing a tool belt (its kinda the same thing, only on a belt ) how they'd react?

So I've been hearing that this isn't the entire story.

Apparently the school has a rule for some classes where nobody is allowed to have backpacks or bags of any kind during class(to prevent the students from accessing distracting objects during class)

He's being suspended because he wouldn't leave his bag in his locker.

Can't find the actual reference to this though.

This school is stupid and so is the one that banned the imaginary grenade (I remember the article). Zero tolerance luckily kicked in a few years after I moved on to highschool. If you could teleport the 11-14 yr old me and my friends into the current school system - we would be suspended every day despite being good kids.

Kids want contact sports, snowball fights, imaginary gun battles, etc..... no one was seriously injured or died that I know of.

How about from earlier in this thread:

However, he said all students, whether female or male, are prevented from having bags, purses, satchels and backpacks in the core classrooms like English and math. The bags must be stored in lockers during class time, he said.

"We strive to make sure we treat every kid alike and there are classroom rules we expect kids to follow," he told KCTV5 on Thursday. "They can bring (bags and purses) to school. There's no policy against that. But the classroom rules are that they can't bring it to the classroom."

Never understood why purse became a female thing. You look at the 17th/18th centuries - there was always talk of a purse containing 50 guineas or in horseracing the prize was a purse of 50 shillings or something like that!

Same with the colour pink - it used to symbolise a boy who hadn't been bloodied yet, hence the expression red blooded male. Females used to be associated with blue, now it's the other way around!

A 13-year-old Kansas boy says he was suspended for carrying a purse to Anderson County Senior-Junior School, KCTV-5 reported.

Skylar Davis, reacting to his suspension, told KCTV-5, "I don't think everyone should be treated differently. Everyone should have the same privileges."

Via KCTV-5
He said he has been carrying the colorful fabric Vera Bradley bag over his shoulder for some time with no issues.
"It expresses myself and I think everyone else can wear it, so I wear it as well," Skylar told KCTV5's Dave Jordan.
He was summoned to Assistant Principal Don Hillard's office after he wouldn't take it off.
"I went to the office and I refused to take it off, and they suspended me," the teen explained.
Davis' mother, Leslie Willis, was called to pick up her son. She told KCTV-5 that she was "a little furious" over the situation and is wondering about its timing, saying that her son has been carrying the purse to school since August.

Willis said she examined her son's student handbook and did not see anything regarding purses or bags. She told KCTV-5 that she was told that her son's suspension was for only one day. However KCTV-5 reported the suspension will likely continue until Skylar stops wearing the purse. Skylar apparently has said he has no intention of doing that.

The school district had no comment when contacted by Yahoo News.

Often, students find themselves in trouble not for their attire but for weapons, either real or imagined. A second-grader from Colorado was suspended after playing with an imaginary grenade on school grounds in February. And in Pennsylvania, a fifth-grade girl was suspended after bringing a piece of paper in the shape of a gun to school in January.

Teachers sometimes get in trouble over school rules as well. In 2009, Georgia teacher Ashley Payne resigned from her position after someone complained (via anonymous email) about one of the teacher's posts on Facebook, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,

The post in question reportedly featured Payne drinking an alcoholic beverage. A caption said she was on her way to play "Crazy Bitch Bingo." Payne says she was pressured to resign.

As a guy, I never understood why we cant use purses? I mean A bag t carry all our stuff in? Gun lovers would love it because you can canceal a gun in it. Repairmen can carry spare tools. Hell, people that read alot can bring a book in it. But nope we men are stuck with pants

we get phany packs.

They tried to enforce the no bags at a lot of schools I work. On teachers. That lasted about two weeks.

But some administrations will say that if teachers are allowed, it's only fair that students be allowed too.

I don't know how I'd get by without a way to carry books, papers, teacher paraphernalia and my lunch. A backpack when wearing a suit is just... no. And I don't love any sports team enough to own a duffel bag with their logo on it, either.

No matter where I go I carry a book to read if I need ta sit on a long wait for anything or a train/bus/subway ride, and writting and drawing stuff in the case inspiration suddeny arrives. Also, if I have to buy anything, I also stuff those things in there so I don't carry them in my hands (and save the world by not using plastic bags )

andI still stuff things on the small pachsk I hand on my belt xD

At which point you have a bag, not a purse.

I'd say anything larger than 12" in any dimension is no longer a purse, its just a bag.

I'm surprised the school didn't get in trouble for the "no purses in class for anyone" thing a while ago. After all, girls get their periods during school. It's a fact. They need to carry tampons or pads or what have you. Where do they keep them, in their pockets? Most female designed pants don't have pockets that will adequately hold said devices, they need a bag to put them in. Hence the purse. They might not have time to run to a locker before running to the bathroom to take care of feminine business without ruining clothing. The school's rule is stupid.

Then again, I grew up in the 90s and finished HS in the early 2000's, so it wasn't offending the PC nature of today's world to say this kid would have had the crap kicked out of him on a daily basis for his purse. Make it larger and call it a messenger bag and get it in a manly black or brown and you have no problems. Call it a purse and you're just making yourself a target. I have no sympathy for him, but I also think the school's ruling on purses in class is beyond foolish.

tl;dr- Both the school and the student are idiotic. I don't care about either of them.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Perhaps the girls just go to their locker and get what they need from their purse as they need it? Clearly the rule has not caused too much trouble until this self entitled crap bag and his mommy got offended by it.

For those concerned about the lack of space in modern fashion for guys all you need is some good reference material for inspiration

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS1ePEZZCDY

Though seriously modern fashion is terrible for carrying anything. Most trousers are slim-fit or very snug and the pockets so tight you can hardly get your hand into them, let alone pull a thicker wallet out (and when its in there you've a huge bulge).
We seem to be in an odd age where we still carry lots of things, but where fashion is leaving us with fewer places to actually carry them.

Heck I've taken to often wearing my camo trousers when travelling by train because I can fit a small paperback or kindle into the thigh pocket with no fiddling around getting it in and out (good for getting the last few lines before the doors open).

As for the original subject it sounds like its just the same old battle between school uniform codes and parents/kids not liking them. The only twist here is that it does sound like they've tried to make it an issue by going at it sideways although where the parents start and the media ends with the report is anyones guess (newspapers are well known to adapt stories to suit their own ends).

I'm sorry. I don't get this "guys carry a lot of stuff" nonsense. I carry 3 things: my phone, my wallet, and my keys. I occasionally carry my firearm, which requires no pockets, and occasionally carry a small knife, which clips to the inside of my pocket.

But then again I don't wear dick-hugging jeans either, so maybe my lack of "fashion sense" continues to my lack of gak I need to carry.

If I'm going out... Wallet, paracord bracelet (normally wear this), iPod touch, phone keys, memory stick (sometimes). That's too much to put in the pockets of my jeans, and unless I'm wearing an outdoor fleece, all of the pockets on my cardigans don't have zips. Therefore, I have a problem.
The solution? Wear combat trousers. So much better than jeans. Big zip pockets, reasonably loose, lightweight, dry out quickly.
