Doesn't Gaunts Ghost use some kind of jump packs in one of the novels? IIRC they use them in the novel "The Guns of Tanith".
They use some light weight variant (As in 20-40 kg), at least for descending, might be some kind of Grav-Chute, my memory is not flawless, unfortunately.

This silence offends Slaanesh! Things will get loud now!

You've got it on the money for the most part. They used a Phantine produced grav-chute variant which has more control over ascending/descending for the insertion operation.

It weighed 40kg inactive, once the suspensors/anti-grav are kicked on the grav-chute goes down to something like 20kg as it relieves some of its weight from the operator.

Space Marines can fly with JP. Even says so under the equipment entry in the 5th Ed Marine codex,

"can even be used to fly short distances"

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that humans can use jump packs but they can't do that thing where you rocket straight into the ground. I have no excerpts that support my assertion but that would seem most logical. You'd have to be crazy or built like a tank to do that. Or, in the Space Marines' case, both.

On moon miranda.

there's nothing saying they couldn't use jump packs, but such things appear to be very rare kit indeed, thus reserved for the ultra-elite forces like Sororitas and Space Marines, usually for Assault troops, while the IG will just resort to mechanization if they require speed.

yes absolutely normal humans can use jet/jump packs.

they basically never do however, due to logistical reasons more then "they cant" reasons.

no one is forcing normal humans to hit the ground as hard as astartes would, im pretty sure they could land softly if they wanted to.

Indeed, back when the IG had assault troops, human bombs and beastmen. They used space marine backpacks- whether because they were suitable or the lazy who knows- but they certainly existed and someone thought a fast moving guardsman with two laspistols was a worthy assault trooper.

It's also important to remember that Raptors/Warp Talons have long been exposed to the Warp to the point where those jump packs are y'know...heavily altered.

Even then those not exposed much to the warp, the Iron Warriors, are also capable of sustained flight. The problem isn't inability or lack of control, it's fuel. You're fully capable of swooping around. But unless your jump pack is tainted or you're carrying extra fuel, getting stuck in a horde of Orks with no extraction with all your fuel running dry sucks.

I don't recall seeing any exacting figures about Iron Warriors and their Warp exposure or how their Raptor Cults work.

The Iron Warriors abhor giving oneself to chaos and mutation, and while they do utilize Obliterators, they're kept as locked up animals and viewed as abominations by their number. They go utilize daemon weaponry, although without the blind devotion to it as some cults and recognize that it could and might backstab them whenever it feels like it.

Their raptors are capable of flights much longer than a 'jump' per the tabletop or DOW, but also Siege of Castellax acknowledges how fuel is limited. The problem isn't their incapability to fly with jump packs. It's fuel. Jump packs simply can't carry a large amount of it.

Unaugmented-- IE "regular"-- humans use them all the time.

Most humans never will, because they're rare and expensive and most humans live in poverty. But most humans also can, with the right training and the right access, make use of them.

No, regular, as in, not extraordinary.

Not regular, as in, simply not massive and overpowered.

SoB are elite troops, they are not regular.

Inquisitors are inquisitors, they are not regular.

Guardsmen are basic infantry, they are regular.

See what I mean?

But I can clarify just for you; Can a Guardsman use a Jump Pack?

There is a difference between military Regulars (i.e. standard line infantry) and the definition of a "regular human". SoBs may well be elite troops, but on the whole, physically they are unaugmented humans. Some inquisitors are highly augmented, others may have no augmentation at all but I bet any of them could get a special bit of kit whomped up for them. If the jump pack is designed correctly, then the answer is yes.

Considering that we have experimental jump packs in real life, and do not have bioengineered supersoldiers with 3 lungs and 2 hearts, and we are able to use our experimental jump packs, I would say that, yes, a Guardsman can probably use a jump pack without exploding themselves.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I don't know if regular humans can use jump packs, but grav-chutes do more than just slowing your descent.
I've been reading a lot about the Elysians lately and grav-chutes are capable of hovering in place for up to a minute, and also allow for short flights. The only thing they can't do is going upwards, they do not have the boosting power for that.

Not the tech's the same, but other races use jump-packs.
Eldar have Swooping Hawks, but the tech is better. They're supposed to be used for full flight.

As for normal humans, they won't be as bulky or viscous as the SM ones. Power Armour would weigh a lot, and the packs would be built to cater for that.
So, non-PA packs would be far smaller, and wouldn't necessarily need a frame to hold it.
