His dad clearly loved his cars. Can't judge someone on what cars they love. A car nuts a car nut. Someone who loves cars, whatever they are.

It's just that they're not really "car guy cars" I mean, they are not "performance" of any type. I will sometimes profess to by a car guy myself, as I love cars; However, I will not say that I'm a car guy in the same sentence as what I currently drive, because nothing I drive is an "enthusiast" car. Certainly, the things driven on Top Gear are out of most of our price ranges, there are still cars that can fit the stylized views of many but still within "budget"

Sort of... Basically you have cars, and "enthusiast" cars. Most often, the enthusiasts cars have some form of performance to their aspect (speed, handling/racing, offroading, etc)

So, if someone is obsessed with old cars, buys them, restores them, they cannot be called a "Car Guy" Because they dont have a performance to them. Im sorry, my father went to car shows, any car he saw he could point to, tell me 100 esoteric facts, what year that type of grill was made and how it first smelled off the line

You can easily be a car guy without owning a "car guy's" car.
Remember Gone in 60 Seconds?? The cop goes into the old chop shop, sees an 82 Caddy and asks whats wrong with it, and they reply that it needs "brightening" some cars just automatically get the "classic car" label, while others have their fans, they just aren't nearly as popular. To each his own.

I can agree with you that the brand's cars are at least decent (I used to own a 2009 Frontier), the thing that kills the brand for me is the dealerships. Some of the worst, most crooked and corrupt dealerships I've personally come across.

The dealership that I bought from has been good, regular maintenance, friendly reminders, and they took me on without any sort of credit history. But I can definitely see how some Nissan dealerships would be that way.

I'm sorry, but your wrong. Hotsauce is right. If his dad loves cars and enjoys restoring them and looking after them hes far more of a car nut than someone who can splash out $$$ on a high performance car. Someone who loves barges or classics is just as much a car nut as someone who loves high performance cars. It's the franchise owner rather than the brand that causes the problems, or not. Some manufacturers are very strict on who they give franchises too, to make sure they are well represented. Mass market ones less so. Oddly it is not always based on the price of the brand. Ford seem to all be much the same, Mercedes on the other hand seem to be massively variable.

Undoubtedly, it's just that in my time with buying cars, etc. I have had FAR MORE problems with Nissan dealerships, either directly or indirectly than with any others. For instance, the Nissan place here where I'm stationed has one of the most inept service departments in the history of service departments. So, I arrive from Germany with my Frontier, and take it in for it's first Stateside oil change. During their inspection they discover a battery lead that is pear shaped (literally) which caused random disconnects (which explains the couple problems I had previously). They tell me that they don't have the part in, but they'll special order it and I can bring the truck back once it's in. So it comes in while I'm out of state and have no one to take the truck in, so I tell them, "can you hold it until I'm back and get an oil change, should be a couple weeks" (yeah, that's also how long shipping took as I had actually gone about 3k miles) and they tell me that'd be fine.... So I go in, let them know Im due for services, and that there should be a special ordered part in for me. They don't put it in. 2 weeks later, get a call about the cable, and so I schedule an appointment to put it in, it's a couple weeks away. That day comes, take the truck in, they do a full oil change service (god knows why, it wasn't due yet) and dont get the cable put in... because they had put it in another vehicle and would have to order the part again. I end up selling the truck, and a month after I sold it, they call to let me know they had ordered the cable. and 3 months after that, they asked if I still needed the cable installed (after telling them both times I had sold the truck).
A co-worker had a towing package put on his Nissan at the same dealership, it took him/his wife 4 visits to get everything right (first time the drivers window didnt work, second time the sunroof didnt work, 3rd time the remote and things like the blinkers didnt work)
My parents took a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee into the Nissan dealership in my home town. Ended up liking a newer, used Sentra. The sales people encouraged them to take the car home for an overnight test drive. The next day they go to the dealership, and drive around, their old Jeep wasn't on the lot (they had already, and illegally sold it to a wholesale lot)... That one ended up working out well in my parents' favor because they had them pretty much by the balls on that one.
Basically, each place I've ever lived in, I've never heard anything good about ANY Nissan dealership.

Decent car, Alf.
As for dealerships, some are just run by fething crooks. The worst dealership I ran into this last time around was Champion Toyota in Houston, TX. High pressure tactics and what-not. I won't go into it, but in less than 10 minutes I told the guy I'd never buy anything from him and left. Talking with co-workers afterwards, I get the same story.
20 minutes later, I'm at another Toyota dealership test driving a Prius, which was on my list. Next door was the Nissan dealership that had 2 other cars I wanted to test drive. Both were well run, low pressure, above board dealers. I went with the Toyota Prius.
It all depends on management. I contacted Toyota and reported the poor salesmanship of the dealer in a rather lengthy email. The dumb schmuck had given me his card. They said they'd investigate and discipline them as needed, whatever that means.

420 bhp? That seems... brave. I thought the diff had issues dealing with the standard 300.
I assume there is more to the extra 120bhp than just injectors and a remap?

Nope - diff can handle quite a bit - a chap on the owner's club I belong to has approx 650bhp going on. Mine puts down the power quite well but is a bit skittish in the wet, nothing too major though.
Mine has had a fair bit done to it - lowered, new springs, Cosworth air filter, larger bore exhaust and downpipe, uprated intercooler (good for 375bhp, not good enough for my current map), cast iron inlet manifold, high pressure fuel pump etc etc, plus the injectors and mapping on top.
