World of Tanks has some absolute cretins (telling people that they deem to be bad to uninstall, go play pokemon etc etc etc). They also love to report people for utterly random things, some idiot recetnly threatened to report me for being a 'bot' when I was half way across the map in a hull down sniping position. Strangely when it was in Beta the community was actually pretty friendly but these days there are an awful lot of man children screaming some gibberish about 'noobs'.

I tend to find that forums dedicated to specific games tend to be very toxic places, the Steam forums for example are filled with bile and stupidity.

Tera in-game Global chat.
COD community, which slowly ruined most online shooter communities.
League of Legends.
[insert most competitive games here] anything old MLG related ruined the games. COD and LoL easily reaching the top in idiocy and douchebaggery.

I vacillate regularly between the opinion that EVE Online is the best game ever with the worse community ever, or the opposite way around. I think anything you can apply to other game communities apply to it only amplified somewhat. The barrier to entry manages to weed out most of the most obvious immature idiots, but that only means the people left over are more competent at what they decide to do. Some of the nicest people I have ever met online play that game, but on the other hand people who seemingly have a grudge against humanity in that game can get really devious in their plans to make you suffer.

This is a good example. A PvP corp waited 3 years for an alt to log on with his titan so they could kill it (its worth around £1750 in real money). Misanthropes...

They are a community of people wherein murder is not only allowed but also profitable.
There are entire spreadsheets of hate that these people dedicate towards destroying their enemies.
They make petty gestures on a grand scale out of sheer spite.

Yeah, I think EVE is one of those games where it is much more fun to read/watch things about the game, than it is to actually play it.

e.g. that battle recently that was described as the largest PvP conflict in MMO history or whatever. Excellent to read about, watch some clips on, hear the discussions etc.
Thought after reading, 'y'know what, EVE sounds like my kind of game, might give the free trial a go'. So on my lunchbreak I read some 'beginner tutorials', was greeted with the advice
'If you're good with spreadsheets, you'll go far in EVE'
...
Never even signed up for the trial.

I'm interested in EVE Online from a logistics point of view.
I'd love to have a look at some of the organisational stuff some people have behind it all.

Dota 2 is an obvious one.

But the other is Stellar Impact, a game that somehow managed to have an even worse community than Dota 2 yet was a more niche, independent game.

I play League of Legends a lot. I find that the idiots who scream at you for being bad are few and far between. They exist but they don't pop up often for me. I've had people laugh at me for doing poorly, but never scream at me for doing badly.

I yelled at a couple of people doing things like leaving their lanes and going to the wrong lanes for their champion.

So example. IN basic League there are 3 lanes. Certain champion work better in certain lanes. Melee Tanky Champs work better on top. Mages work best in mid and Marksmen and certain Mages work best on bot.

Now In the example game we had a Zed (a Assassin champ that's best mid) go top. Not listening to the person who had already claimed top lane and pretty much forcing them to go mid. He was doing badly and so was the mid laner being the wrong champ for mid. It took the entire team yelling at him to get him to go mid so that we had a chance of winning. And whattya know? Once they swapped back to the proper lanes we started winning.

You might get reported for doing something like that.

Bad experiences with Conan online, might just have been the server but woah was it full of angry, petty teens. Didnt help you could derobe the females down to their bare chests I suppose.....

I never had any issues with Conan but I haven't played it for about 3 years. MMOs in general tend to have quite immature communities, including EvE, but its usually fairly easy to avoid them.

Eve online.

DOTA 2 has one of the most toxic communities out of all the MOBA's I've played, some of those people are far worse then league, smite, or anything else combined.

Every online game is tainted with donkey-caves.

The only way it can ruin the game is if you let it.


For example.

Out of the 5 years i played wow, and as bad of a rep that game can get.. I found a worse community the 3 months i played Guild Wars 2.


League of legends can be a bit worse then most at times though.

I've only heard bad things about LoL but what i've heard is much worse than what i've seen in Dota 2...

Lol is pretty bad because when one person is angry with someone else, it slowly corrupts the entire team into arguing with each other.

I have to agree with whoever it was that said combat arms too. In that community people brag over their hacks, not how good they are.

As for EVE, I tried that game for the free trial and got bored of it. For you to earn the PLEX you need to continue playing for free, it becomes SPREADSHEETS IN SPACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, it's looking at fething charts to do most stuff. I've also heard that russian eve players cut eachother's internet connection to win big battles, and I don't want risk that starting in the US too.

LoL is ok. There are some donkey-caves there, but I've personally found the community to be reasonable. No worse than Dota 2 or any other MP game, really.
There is a report system that allows you to deal with muppets at least.

I've experienced much more hostility from the original Dota in WC3, tbh.

Ugh, yeah that happened to me.
Kept dying since it was my first time playing Vel'Koz (freaky squid mage), and some bloke called me a feeder and reported me.
So I reported him back for being an donkey-cave. Still haven't heard from the Tribunal, so I guess everything's fine.

What's ironic about your case is that Leaving in itself is an offence

Towards the end of its life, the now defunct Metal Gear Online

It's biggest problem was that the optimal playstyle was nothing like the game was intended to be. Instead of carefully considered stealth or co-ordinated teamwork (which was heavily supported but the interface) you wound up with twitchy fingered duck-shoot-duck (or rather Cardboard Box-Shoot-Cardboard Box) players or two groups of campers picking off anyone who stuck their head out. Added to that the maps were two small to have more than 3 or so avenues of approach, making stealth useless



That and all the bloody lagswitches

I'm going to add counter strike to the list. I haven;t played in years so I fired it up this evening. In the very first life on the first server the admin killed me using an admin command and on the second life he kicked me, apparently for 'camping'.

Power hungry admins are something that I love to despise.

War Thunder and Runescape

War thunder, I got reported 4 or 5 times by a guys squadron for *Stealing his kill* He then proceeded to gun my plane down, and then rammed my third plane, costing our team the match (The other team was behind in tickets). Cue that experience every second match now thanks to the squadron system and I decided to leave. A pity, because I liked war thunder.

Runescape
Got into it since it came out, had a hiatus from it and came back just before it went 3d. The community are mostly gakkers, people will try and hack you EVERY chance they get, and the cool bosses are now ruined by people trying to get you to it to kill you.

In Combat Arms it wouldn't be an admin doing it. You'd be votekicked for it. Also for using a shotgun, or a rocket launcher, or... anything that wasn't a sniper rifle or assault rifle. Or for getting a high score without being popular enough or without being in a well known clan.

It wasn't so much the swearing that turned me off of the Gears universe, it was how much EVERYONE hated tactics in those games.

The first game, if you weren't using the shotgun or the sniper rifle, you were a noob, no matter how high you were on the scoreboard. That notion seemed to transmit to the other games....

Call of Duty on PC is like a whole different game. Without aim assist there is less "quick scoping" and whatever else d-bags on youtube claim to be experts at and people tend to be civilized mature players. Some of the annoying stuff still exists though.

Admittedly I haven't payed CoD online since MW2 though, so things may have changed.
