Morrowind had really great mods, especially some very impressive and well developed landmasses that rivaled the original game at least visually. Oblivion mods focused more on character beautification and Skyrim has just gone completely off the deep end.

I agree with you that there are a lot of...special...mods out there for Skyrim, but you can filter than on the NMM site. Once you've done that, there is a nearly endless goldmine of amazing mods, ranging from simple weapon additions, to entire overhauls or new realms (see Falskaar). Seriously, my Skyrim enjoyment improved by a degree of magnitude when I discovered modding.

There are some really good mods out there and the sexual ones are just a small portion of the mods. Even just on the steam workshop I've downloaded enough content to make my game feel unique. I wouldn't say the community is necessarily terrible. It's just the matter of some modders making some rather sexual mods and a lot of people using them. Hopefully Elder Scrolls VI (not online) will keep mods in.

Strong disagree. I have roughly 100 mods that I use on a given playthrough, and none of them are 'pseudo pornographic'. Use Steam if you can't be bothered to sort them out yourself, but saying that the modding community made Skyrim worse overall because some of it made bewbs is ridiculous.

The sad thing is that the community started out being very friendly and helpful; bandits existed of course but you could be fairly confident that people that you met wouldn't shoot you in the face and bandits themselves put a lot more effort in. As it became poplar it became more and more of a deathmatch to the extent that its now far safer to find friendly players outside of the game itself. Its a real shame.

There's a similar problem in Space Station 13, though at the very least that's sort of the point of the game.

To be fair, (and I've never played it so I may be wrong) doesn't it give a new sense of immersion and tension in that you can't trust anyone else?

If I wanted that, I'd go play SS13, which does it better in every way imaginable, while STILL being more pleasant and varied to play.

And this is in spite of me playing /TG/Station (Or NTStation, as it's apparently known now).

You never really could trust anyone, for instance I was in a largeish group of random people I met in a server. we were systematically scavenging villages which was going fine until we were ambushed by a group of bandits who had a mole in our group all the time feeding them intel over TS. The issue now though is that people nearly always shoot on sight which means that situations like I described just don't happen.

I've been involved with the community since the days of Morrowind and the level of innovation has dropped dramatically over the last decade. The community used to police itself, but has gone completely out of control. It's not even worth the trouble to peruse mod sites because of the sheer amount of juvenile garbage you have to crawl through in order to find a lone gem.

There's a filter on NMM that ignores all the weird stuff.

I wasn't into modding back during Morrowind (peasant box player at the time), but I think you're being hyperbolic claiming the level of innovation has dropped off dramatically.

There are plenty of amazing mods for Skyrim, ranging from the visual to the gameplay, to the entire overhauls and new land addtions, and down to the simple inclusion of a single weapon or stat tweak.

The existence of some questionable mods doesn't rule out the rest of the community, especially given how easy it is to ignore mods like that.

Yeah, the filter is on by default. You have to actively turn it off.

As a WoW-Roleplayer, all the non-RP'ers occupying the servers, standing around in their glowing armor on the biggest dragon, spamming the chat. Everyone that does not plan on Roleplaying, or at least acting upon the most basic of rules on the servers, should NOT choose a RP-Server. I despise people like that, and I remember the day I hit the Ignore-List Limit (Back when there still was one) on my server like it was yesterday.

DOta 2 is another good example, mainly because it made me play it with voice chat muted, biased against russian players and basically trained me to hammer the ignore button the moment someone utters something I find even mildly inaccurate or mean.

Last but not least, the majority of the Dark Souls PvP Community. On one hand a screaming Zoo of monkeys demanding that EVERYONE has to be forced into PvP, so they can grief even those who dont want to get involved with it at all, and on the other hand demand everyone adheres to some kind of slowed "honor code". So you invade MY game, try to reset MY progress and then you expect that I play nice, fair and even climb up your butt half way? Go feth yourself, buddy. It's either pulling the cable, or summoning 2 other Lads to beat you back into your basement.

The issue of non-roleplayers on the RP servers existed since the first RP servers were made.

Most tend to keep quiet - they just preferred the less childish comments and players on the RP servers, but some it seems actively interfere to be scurrilous and join the RP server for that purpose.

Wonderful RP memories from WoW though, at one time it was a great game for it.

Agreed. I wasn't a huge roleplayer but I loved the RP servers because they weren't so.....childish? I would roleplay in group and such and really enjoyed that back in the day. Pretty much gave up on RP in WoW though during BC.

Still remember fleeing the elven lands in shame and making the long swim from Menethil to Stormwind after helping a Satyr (or whatever he was)

TF2's community is pretty awful. The community falls into 2 categories: people who have no idea what they're doing and don't care about anything beyond messing around, and the "1337 pro" types who rant on about how MY TEAM ARE ALL IDIOTS because they're not running the exact same build as him, witter on for ages about weapon/class tier lists and how anyone who plays Heavy is an idiot and how everyone should play Sniper and so on...

In fact, I could crop my answer down to the "Pro/hardcore" gaming scene as a whole. Because computer games are serious business!

Competitive players tend to be like that. I prefer to hang around casual gaming clans in TF2, actually joined one for a while before I got pissed off at Valve for being scumbags regarding some customer support thing.

When I played WoW, I had a female hunter. I joined a small guild and we all got very friendly. It was good times. Then one day we got voice chat. I have a very deep radio voice. It went something like this.

<joins>
Guy - "Hey!"
Girl - "Who just joined?"
Me - "Hey"
Girl - "Who.... the feth... is that?"
Me - "Uhhhhh... Tanisa?"
Girl - "OH MY GOD I THOUGHT YOU WERE A GIRL HOLY gak"

Still makes me laugh remembering it. I was "Tanisa the Truck Driver" for a bit.

(edit)

Also, League of Legends. I will not touch that game ever again because of the community. I have never had a disgust for humanity so much through a video game as that experience.

LoL's online community is really, really gakky. too many people there are obsessed with esports and think they're pros, and it makes playing really annoying.

I'm still low level in League so I haven't encountered the worst yet, (Your outside of game level unlocks certain things. Once you hit level 30 you cap out and play with all the other level 30s.) I've had 1 or 2 Gitz on my team but mostly it's just for fun.

Playing with friends also helps alot.

As for TF2, again, play with friends and on bot servers.
