Agreed. The old EAA stuff in contrast with the UCM designs really emphasize the changes in philosophy. The older stuff is larger and less focused while the UCM equipment is specialized and utilitarian. I also like that you can look at the EAA stuff in comparison to the UCM and PHR and see the common aesthetic designs they branched off of.

I like the military wing of the resistance - not sure about the feral's though. I like the older look of the military equipment. I don't think I'll be committing money towards them - yet - but I'm glad they are generating interest!

The Resistance starter set contains units playable with any of the army factions, correct?

Repost from a thread I put up on Hawkforums: My Resistance guys. The models are awesome, and the faction plays so crazily. Lots of thematic 'hit and run', and 'holding the line' with your sturdy but relatively undergunned tanks.

Plus, the awesome gameplay image of a technical squad rounding a corner at full speed, machine-gunning down a light dropship and some prowlers, losing one or two cars due to enemy fire, then taking the next hairpin turn to break LOS...

La Resistance: Approximately 1500 points, with UCM Forward special forces elements.

Are there any Resistance plastics, yet? Also, is there a good size comparison photos with some of the dropships next to a space marine or something similar?

Hawk has stated theres no plans yet to produce Resistance in plastics. Most of the kits of have a lot "random" pieces to keep each model looking different, so that just isn't feasible in plastic yet.

With that said, often resin gets a bad name, but the resin Hawk uses is really top notch, and in my opinion, preferable to the hard plastic used by GW and other companies.

As far as size comparison photos with a space marine, I'll have to leave that to someone else. Most of the original range has scale comparisons next to coins (currency) on their website, but they haven't continued with those scale shots on the newer releases like the Resistance.

Thanks. The coin pictures are helpful, if not as intuitive. I will be staying away from resin vehicles thanks to forge world and firestorm armada.

The Hawk vehicles are very crisply done and are usually only a few pieces, most of which going in the turret. The only bent piece I've seen so far has been the back part on a Desolator and the side walls on the Scourge Heavy Dropship, and even then, it was a quick job to hot water it back to conformity.

Trust me, the Dropzone models are NOTHING like forge world or firestorm armada. They're probably the cleanest miniatures I've ever had to build, save perhaps for Infinity's incredible level of qualtiy in casting. I've had no mold line filing on this entire army, NONE. All that I've had to do is occasionally clip off a casting line with a sharp knife, but that's it.

The rest of the qualtiy is amazing. No miscast, and finer details than I even can realize. For example, the door on the hovercraft is the size of a space marine's eyeball, but yet it has an obvious handle and tiny step for the pilot to get out! Insane! Likewise, the BOTTOM of the Hovercraft, which you will never see, has rotary fans and the engines that keep it aloft. The trucks have extreme detail, and the helicopters have fully detailed rotor mechanisms under the radar dome. Unlike Firestorm, all the peices slot together perfectly, and there's very few: It's usually 'tank hull, turret' and that's it.

Best of all, those choppers use etched steel for the rotors, so they sure as hell aren't breaking or bending like plastic, resin or pewter rotor blades would.

Good eye there. Somebody's gotta use all that random metal plus unused sat uplink domes

But anyway, does anybody have a Leviathan? I don't think I've seen those anywhere. And Freeriders remain sold out all over.

As to a previous comment about approximate scale, those technicals (ie, the small cars with the rear gunner) are a touch bigger than a GW plasma pistol in length.

Brilliant painting Killionaire, the attention to detail is really quite something considering the really miniature, miniature nature of these particular models!

Anyone know of any other model ranges that would be compatible both size wise and aesthetically with the Dropzone universe?

I really love the look of the resistance but I'm not sold on the Jackson APC's, a proxy for those would see my... err, resistance to starting a resistance force slip away quite quickly!

Well, to answer my own question, after a bit of research I've found a load of really nice looking 10mm APC's at

http://miniaturefigurines.co.uk/Catalogue.aspx?ScaleID=1&CategoryID=3

They're real world military vehicles but with the right paint scheme I think they'll fit the Resistance aesthetic perfectly

Reaper's CAV minis are in the same scale, right?

I got the starter set for Christmas and the figures are bigger than I thought, which is encouraging for the resistance. You could probably scratch build a fair amount of resistance stuff out of small toys, though the Hawk war-games stuff looks so good maybe it wouldn't be worth it. Not sure I like the jackson APCs however - a little too retro. I have a little trouble crediting the resistance hanging on for 170 years with some of the original military hardware though, given the way the scourge attack is described in the rulebook. On an unrelated note the Shaltari illustrations are hideous bobble heads I will attempt to unsee, given as they are my favorite faction.

I'm also not a fan of resin, and am bummed to hear the Resistance isn't available in plastic.

How's the resin feel and how is it to work with? I'm hoping you haven't had to test this but: how tough is it? Most of the resin I've used has been fairly brittle stuff - but I swore off resin ages ago, maybe it's changed?

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

Hawk's resin is fine. I think resin gets a bad name in the minis world, but DZC models are the most detailed and durable figures I've come across in a while.

Hawk's resin is nice. It does not need to be washed, has very little to no flashing, holds a lot of detail, and is a lot more durable than it appears at first.

That is not to say that it is perfect. You get a little warping on straight parts on a rare occasion (a touch of hot water fixes it without issue) and it will break if you push it too hard, but it tends to be more flexible than brittle (in my experience).

http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-amazing-resin-of-drop-zone-commander.html

There is a video in that link of natfka throwing a UCM dropship against a wall to test the durability. I wince every time that I see it.. lol.

a little too retro.

Since there was an art deco revival they fit quite well.

I have a little trouble crediting the resistance hanging on for 170 years with some of the original military hardware though, given the way the scourge attack is described in the rulebook.

Read the Reconquest Phase 1 book. On Eden e.g. much of it was stockpiled or not delivered stuff and since most factories on Eden are underground...

The resin is quite good and very detailed. The resin even survives a table crashing down and standing on top of it as we discovered during a Con. Only one minor paint chipand there were 3000AP on the table.

I was thinking about the Hannibal, some are describing it as usales for tank hunting, but I like the unit and I though, it is great though for building demolising. 4 shots that will hurt on a 2 is great. Our anti tank is otherwhere, veterans, freeriders, cyclones and Alexanders.

Regarding the resin - I think it's excellent now, unfortunately at the very beginning they had some quality control issues (parts coming through with air bubbles obscuring detail, etc) but they've got it down to an art form now, at least from what I've seen.

There there very little of actual resisting prior to Reconquest done by resistance, even then in the most cases actual military tech wasn't used but kept back at base. Only now that contact with greater humanity is reestablished the Resistance is willing to risk the precious hardware since it's no longer irreplaceable.
