If that's the case, I'd start with 500-ish points of Eldar and plan to add some Harlequins later.

Ok

Gah! So many choices! What if I get battleforce and jetbike farseer, or aspect host models, or battleforce, jetbike farseer, hawks and dragons? If so, is this list ok?

Cad
hq
farseer
troops
5 guardians
5 guardians
elites
none
fast attack
1 vyper jetbike
heavy support
none

aspect host:
5 dire avengers
6 swooping hawks
6 fire dragons OR warp spiders cause spiders fit with the highly mobile kind of theme
wave serpent for dragons IF I pick them otherwise for dire avengers.

Not sure about it. Tell me if its ok. The basic tactics would be: move the guardians along middle, flanking them with viper and avengers. Spiders zigzag around, being general nuisances of themselves. Dragons (if I take them over spiders) go along, take an objective, camp on it and blast the crap out of anything that gets too close.

please help me with ideas, what to add, and if this isnt a good list, why. Thanks guys

That list wouldn't work too well. For starters guardians have a minimum squad size of 10 not 5. Also your main anti tank would be the dragons who have short range and little mobility. They need a transport or any decent player will destroy them before they get anywhere near where they need to be.

Compared to codexes that have actually been updated to 7th edition and don't have a massive suite of internal problems. Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that you are the sole negative vote as of this post...

I don't vote. And If I did, why would I then tell OP to buy an eldar army? So they are balanced vs necron more or less right?

If the Eldar player doesn't spam the broken and OP units, Eldar are on the same level of balance as any of the other 7th edition codexes*^

*Not including Orks. Their 7th edition codex is awful.

^Tau are balanced well for a 6th edition codex.

I'd argue otherwise, Orks, DE, SW, BA all have decent Codexes (might be missing some before Necrons). It's just generic power creep left them in the dust. Why go BA when SM do everything better? Why play DE when you can just take their transports for Craftworlds? The only Codex that might stand up to the latest Codexes is SW, but TWC/Iron Priests are just so good that it's probably the only reason why I see my friend start to collect them, particulary when you can use super-friends to make them super killy.

Tau have aged well, I will give you that. They be getting a new Codex soon, ayeesh. Cannot wait to see what I will have to deal with next

@the thirteenth praetorian CAD is impossible with Harlequins as they have no HQ. You need either a Masque detachment or one of the formations. Cast of Players works well for a FootDar list mind.

EDIT: Did I seriously answer something that was answered already? Gah. Too early need coffee.

ok, sorry about guardians. I didnt know. With the transport, I did put it under the entry for fire dragons.

I guess I was just blind. I think I just didn't look for a transport after the thing about warp spiders.
If you are thinking about a farseer skyrunner then you would probably want to buy a bike squad too as he would slow down the hawks or spiders. They would also give you a second troops choice once the guardians are all in one squad.
