You definitely don't need the MC75 expansion to have a chance. Every ship in Armada has a place in competitive play. The MC75 has some great upgrades included, but nothing too far above previous expansions.

What I like to do to start building a fleet is to either pick a commander, ship, or theme(tons of bombers, fast heavy hitting, slow tanky) and build out from there. There are plenty of fleets that would not benefit at all from what the MC75 set offers.

I'm not familiar with voltron. What's included in a voltron list?

I'd only seriously consider buying an Armada SSD if it included the canonical action figure trapped in the hull.

Is that the story? I thought it was GW saying you can have Star Wars or you can have us.

And no one in their right minds would pick GW over SW.

The Voltron list was three CR90 Covettes and two Pelta class Command ships. You can decide to keep them all separate to (theoretically) deny your opponent too many kill points. Or combine them all into a tight pack if he put most of his eggs into a single basket (say a juicy Star Destroyer) and then attrition his shields and tokens into the first few turns, then pound him to death with a thousand papercuts.

If you use the "tokens to regen shields" strategy upgrades, as well as the blast doors, it can be a maddening list to deal with. But it's all still very fragile.

So... it looks like if you have the proper fit out to the assault version you can nuke an ISD in two and a half turns. My opponent flew a Raider in close and it subsequently evaporated.

I'm now thinking that the one thing that will really kill her is the objectives. we were discussing them last night and you'll more than likely never have initiative so you'll probably be playing to one of their objectives that benefits them.

I have to admit I am super tempted by the Miniature Market preorder price of $150.

ye you folks are lucky, i have to buy it at retail if i choose to go for it.

even with the discount, the local tax would erase the discount, then you have the shipping on top, so it would actualy cost me more to buy it at discount in u.s then to buy it at retail in norway.

Since the last few waves, it seems to me that the creators have run into some kind of a wall in terms of what to release next, like they've blown through all of (or most of) the Canon ships. There's plenty of Legends material for Armada to expand into, but I'm thinking Disney is restricting what they can and can't use from Legends, for some reason.

IDK, I could totally be off base, but that's how I've felt for the last year or so.

Well then lets hope that Disney starts canonizing some Legends ships by whatever means necessary soon. Even without canonizing them, I don't see why the can't include some Legends material as well. The Y-Wing and TIE Advanced expansion packs I have for [X-Wing] include characters from Legends as pilots, so at least they're not above mixing Canon with Legends when it comes to their starfighter simulator wargame.

Mathieu Raymond wrote:My guess is this is just to tide themselves over until they can finally release the Clone Wars ships. Then this game will go through the roof.

I'd definitely like to see them cover Clone Wars ships. Mainly so that I can see some matches recreate those Separatist Holdout skirmishes from both Legends and Canon alike.

Still getting the SSD, if I can. Need it to fight my borg Cube.

Wait, you can play Imperials against non-SW factions? Also, is this Borg Cube part of a Star Trek starship combat game by FFG?

Spartan Games had the Halo license for a short while before they shut down. They released a fleet combat game for the setting. I don't think they released any other games under the license, though they did have plans for a ground game.

No such official game exists. They're talking about some kind of house rules to mix models and settings.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Yeah, Wizkids came out with Star Trek Attack Wing, which uses the Flight Path system that X-Wing uses, with some modifications. Further, some people have put together a Star Trek version of Armada, complete with Borg Cube (I've been using Eaglemoss Star Trek models for some of the ships). The borg models exist (as does Deep Space Nine, it's just a matter of getting them both on the board together.

The Halo licence was under contract so Spartan Games only held the contract for it. The licence returned to the licence holder when SG went into administration. So it was never on the table for WC to get a hold of. Right now the licence might be free to grab, but we've no idea of the background finances, it might be that the licence holders for Halo just didn't see enough return from Halo under SG to make them want to approach miniature models again. Or could be that SG going belly up has left a bad taste in their mouth for dealing with smaller studios and the bigger ones in the wargame market have their own IP and no interest in developing a 3rd party one where the licence is a risk to them (because the miniature company is the one making the biggest investment in design and moulds and production and if the licence holder ends or doesn't renew the licence contract then the miniature company can be left with a lot of wasted investment).

I figured that it might've been a homebrew of some kind rather than a strictly official thing.

Looking up Star Trek Attack Wing shows me that their models use starships rather than starfighters, which is a bit disappointing in my opinion because there's no way that that a Starfleet ship scales to the same size as an X-Wing or TIE Fighter. Does Star Trek just not have very many starfighters in it's setting compared to Star Wars? Still seems like an interesting game though.

No, Star Trek is not really a "fighter" genre. Most of what you get is armed shuttle craft in Deep Space 9 for canon. Starfleet Command 2 had them, but I don't know if Starfleet Battles (the tabletop) did. Scale-wise, Attack Wing was closer to Armada than X-Wing.

There was a class of Federation fighter in both DS9 during the Dominion War as well as for Academy training purposes in Voyager(and IIRC, one Wesley episode on TNG).

Also, DS9 had the Maquis Fighter.

Plus, the Cardassian Hideki-class fighter in DS9.

They already have with Rebels. The Interdictor is canon again thanks to that.

Yeup, like I said, armed shuttle craft, and never a real focus of the Star Trek series.

Attack Wing used the X-Wing rules because it was the easiest way to re-release old models with a working rule set

They wanted to just jump on the X-WING hype with their ST models

With out of scale stuff and rules made for ship to ship combat instead of fleet combat it never really made it.

If they would have waited for Armada rules or used Spartan Games space rules with prober scaled ships it could have been different

I myself still wait for Clone Wars, so not impressed with an SSD....

Reminds me of a semi-recent X-Wing event at my old LGS. The central target was one of the big ships (Transport, Blockade Runner, etc) as it went across several tables' worth of space while one team protected it and the other was to destroy it. I had moved since then, so I don't know how well it went, but it sounded interesting..
