Thats a really nice tarnishing effect you've got there mate.
grey_death is right though, gold can be a tricky one to make look aged and actually keep with the proper style of tarnish, its a much subtler one.
I think the copper effect looks cool though, I'd stick with it.
Cheers,
Dante

Ok, I got details painted but having a problem with choosing an eye color. Also I want to make about 25% of the troops without helmets. So with that in mind what heads should I use with the theme. I'm thinking ling hair, like maybe SW heads. Throw some ideas at me

UPDATE! Ok, being very disappointed with my "reborn" model I decided to ditch the idea. Having to move away from the gold for copper and hard lining black chaos armor sucks! While looking for different schemes on Lexicanum I came upon the "Betrayers of Pain". Described to have "green corroded armor with metal trim and black symbols". I thought to myself, "YES my specialty! So take a look I should have test model pix up in a day or 2.

Still reworking "the purge" for my example of each legion in the codex. But my "Betrayers of Pain" model is 80% finished. Just waiting for some acrylic gel to dry on it.

Some work pix
Changed Ahriman's coat color to black. I highlighted it 3 colors up from Chaos Black. Not too crazy.
"Betrayers of Pain" draft 1 in the works.
Got the base color on and a light wash of glaze of gob green. Resin Sand worked awesome and made the chosen spots on armor look bubbly under the paint while the metal will soon get the rust treatment. The horns are not going to be metal, that's just over dry brushing from hitting the rings that hold the horns on the helm (used my monster sized stippler brush haha). I know to match the picture the paint needs lighter patches with a very sun beaten look. And I have a trick up my sleeve for that. Stay tuned

Grr, don't you hate it when you and the guys you order stuff online from have a communication problem? Reordered stuff for my BoP guys today. Here's what I have coming so far. Let me know what you think I should add on the next order. FYI I have all the special character besides Typhus which I'll need to get since BoP are thought to worship Nurgle. On the Way: Ultraforge Greater Plague Demon - NURGLE CHAOS SPACE MARINE RENEGADE STRIKE FORCE CHAOS TERMINATOR LORD.. second one CHAOS DREADNOUGHT BOX SET x2 CHAOS SPACE MARINE VINDICATOR x2 Micro Art Studios 25mm TRASH bases x 50 Misc: All 4 Tamiya Weathering kits A-D and I'll be doing a review on it. Vallejo Crackle Medium - suppose to crack the paint for old look (YAY possible new Technique for BoP!)

LB, I've just spent a very happy 20 minutes or so looking through all of your pictures and I'm so impressed with your work. It really is fantastic! I have to ask though, do you just have about a million models on the go at anyone time?
Also, you've mentioned in a couple of places that you've been reading "masters tutorials". Where have you found these? I find it quite inspirational to read about master's painting techniques. The only tutorial I've found is the superb tutorial on the Canada Slayer Sword winning 'Magmatrax. In case you haven't seen it, here's a link for you as it has some good NMM stuff in it: clicky

Glad you like what you see Inyoka! About the models, I tend to get bored so I usually have up to 5 models going at one time. Helps pass time late at night when I'm waiting for stuff to dry on one model because I can't use the blow dryer.
Tutorials. The link you gave was great! That guy put a lot of work into that. His NMM was flawless.
Here's where I go.
Currently under construction. Great stuff there though. Bookmark that page because when it's back up you wont be sorry.

I purchased a bunch of tutorials from
http://www.miniaturementor.com/index.html
Their DREAD tutorial is what inspired mine. About 3 hours each of techniques with the best painter's eye view I've ever seen.

For all those keeping up with this WIP and others flipping back through the pages, you can tell I'm a bit indecisive. But now I'm sticking with my choice. OK so I put the landraider and one of the 3 vindicators together and I was itching to paint. Took out the airbrush and started messing with my scheme. Though I like Betrayer's of Pain, it seems as if they only exist because eavy metal made them up to put in white dwarf. Because I want a traitor legion that has been mentioned in some fluff no matter how little, I'll be doing a modified version of "the purge". I like the faded old paint idea and the codex scheme for 'the purge' is a bit boring (black/green-grey). There will be less extreme "nurglizing" of these guys since they are "thought" to worship nurgle. I'll be making them much cleaner looking, and with the weathering I'm planning I think with too much GS and weathering the models will look less attractive. So I'm taking on the weathering more over the GS mutations. Some WIP shots after some airbrush action. And my Ultraforge "unclean one" primed and washed ready for some paint!

Thanx for the compliments!
@ sA : I never used the Tamiya Weathering Kits but I wanted to try it so I ordered all of them lol. Kind of hard to use them as they are hard and don't transfer from the applicator to the model easily. But I'm finding other ways to use them.
Got my MIG pigments last night and wow! I don't know how I ever did without. Pics later today! Have to clean because the pigments are kind of messy.

Water them down -- it brings out the colours more. Just scrape some out and add some water and mix. Then apply with a brush.
Works like a charm -- but they dry strangely depending on how much water you put in.

It's his leg. For some reason they blurred it out. You can see what they blurred in the pic of mine.

I don't know. There's nothing there that's more disgusting or offensive than the rest of the model. When I got the model that was the first place I looked because I wondered what was so bad that they had to blur it out, and alas, nothing. :(
