Stopping point for the night. I spent some time trying to get the first 2 test marines to match the scheme of the tanks. Even while using the same paint stages I had to keep dulling the green down with washes. If any of you used an airbrush on one model and a brush on another, you know how hard it is to duplicate the same finish without some serious effort. I should probably just airbrush it all LOL! So I got my process all written down so now it's just about hitting the robot switch and getting these painted up.

I had a weird occurrence when I was painting my Possessed for my Mordheim Warband. I used an airbrush to paint him Catachan Green and it looked pretty bright. That's fine, I thought it still looked cool. Once I varnished him, however, he got really dark! Perhaps that is the same thing that is happening with you. Or perhaps not.

Very snazzy, one small suggestion though. On the Land Raider, you may want to remove the Aquillas befor you get to far into the painting process, unless you have some suitably snazzy idears for defacing them.

Can't I just consider it looted?

I figure since chaos salvage equipment that they might have picked a couple things With that in mind I'll be including regular space marines with the smooth armor to represent "the new guys" into my legion. Was reading about it and thought it was cool that CSM's always look to upgrade their armor from enemy corpses and when new renegades come in with their Mark VIII ceramite the guys wearing the riveted plasteel envy them. I don't think I've ever seen any chaos army use that idea in their armies. I guess it requires more time and money to buy you csm's and SM bits to entertain the idea but I like it

Works for me, just might want to deface the one on the door a bit for those pesky fluff hounds.

I know I know no updates for a couple days. Just received an ultrasonic cleaner and have been working on a video to show why people need to add one to their tool box. Strips a fully painted model in 10 minutes only using alcohol. Very nice. I'll be painting tomorrow so I'll show you the stopping point on that.

You mean those things people get to clean jewelry or retainers. And then what rubbing alcohol.

Exactly. Works like a charm. Threw all my MAS bases in there with water and dish soap. After 10 minutes all 52 resin bases were ready for paint after a quick blow drying. I was literally looking for stuff to clean/strip around the house..

Worked on NURGLE and the 2 CSM's in the top picture. Laid on the rust pigments and they are drying in the garage, so no pix till tomorrow. Nurgle first stage of skin irritation painted and I'm very happy with the results. Very squishy and wet looking with the ink. Only 7 more layers to go! Anyone know fluff on nurgle and if they say what color his skin is? I'm guessing a rotting green but correct me if I'm wrong.

I can't wait to paint the maggots and puss dripping from select wounds. I love this model!

I leave on all of the aquilias, badges, etc. on any model I convert to Chaos. The way I see it that in itself is a desecration of the symbol(it being sported by a chaos marine, vehicle, etc.). It's a walking(or driving) reminder that the emperor is not all that. Totally removing the symbols is leaving the past behind. I don't want my marines to say that they are just beefy chaos powers. I want them to say they are traitors to the emperor. They now sport those emblems and use them to demoralize and spite their enemies.

Another alternative is to say that they are a chapter that is being swayed by a chaos power and that they think the Emperor is sanctioning these changes(ala early chaos conversion see emperors children in Fulgrim novel, Soul Drinkers novel, etc). It is the ultimate irony to have warriors of choas killing in the emperors name.

Wow good stuff Meph. I like the idea of them leaving the symbols on and its good to know other chaos players have the same idea. Thanx for that.

Midpoint update on Nurgle. He's turning out wonderfully if I may say

Looking good so far on papa nurgle. Could I suggest toning the metals down a bit and making them look more spoiled? They just look a bit shiny and too new for any self respecting nurglite! Also, some variation in the skin to make it more blotchy would add to the foetid, infested look.

I love how you've made the face look so deeply recessed. Very evil and somehow condescending!

Not too worried about the armor. I like it shiny. I figure he'd be wearing nice armor for a greater daemon. And it makes his skin the focal point. The boils had just been painted before the pic and have been washed. As for the skin it already has blue, red, green, purple, and brown tones blended into it, so blotchy? I'd need to see a pic for example.

I figure most people look at this model and in terms of how to paint the skin, rough and dry like a elephant, or the way I went, wet, irritated, you can smell his sores nastiness lol. I do think he need some bruising, pale flesh areas with veins.

Fair enough. Just my thoughts. As for the blotchyness, I just meant that the skin appears to be a very similar hue throughout, but it may be the picture rather than the model. I really like what you've done with it so far though!

Update. More work on skin hues. More greens and yellows. Armor is next, and I'm not liking the purple for his intestines. Think I'll filter some browns onto it and see how it turns out.

I saw that almost threw up. Meaning: still a little further to go! Fantastic work.

I personally like the intestines like that, they throw a nice contrast to the other colors on the model. Any chance we could get a paint scheme for the armor?

Thanx for the nice comments guys!

@ Breaker: The armor was base coated Tin Bitz. Washed with a thin coat of patina, or tarnish green (blue+green and a little white mixed 1:1 H20) then dry brushed with Dwarf bronze, Shining Gold, and Burnished Gold.

Still not finished with the armor. gonna do a gold+ mithral silver mix and highlight it up. Then it's off to the sword and brown stuff (hooves, nails, horns,).

Might have some slow progress as I've been commissioned by my LGS to paint up a Stompa and soon after the IG Valkyrie as soon as it comes in. Fun stuff

Also a super secret Defiler conversion for my army. (yes its a standing version) If all goes well I'll convert the other 2 I have.

@ typhus: OF coarse!

Like I said little to no progress on my guys since last update. Been working on the stompa and my defiler. Converting is messy!

Here's a pic with Great Uncle Nurgle, my bearer, and a sneak peek at the defiler.

Great job on that GUO mate, looking really disgusting but you have done my favourite type of nurgle paint job - dirty gruesome look but painted cleanly and defined.

Bravo!

Inspired. I love all the hues on the GUO -- so rich and vivid.
And that glimpse of the defiler is very tantalizing.

The GUO is looking great, the guts and armor have nice contrast to the main body, and the eyes are brilliant.

How are you planning on doing the sword as it would require some darker shades than the armor to frame the head as the focal point of the fig.

Thanx for the comments again guys!

Defiler- being sent to a friend to do a little nurgleizing but not too crazy, as "the purge" are 'thought' to worship nurgle.

I'm excited too!

@Metsuri- You read my mind about the sword. Not sure what to do with it yet. I don't want it to look like his armor, but another metal would be too light a color. And its too chipped and dirty to glow. hmmm. You guys need to help me there.
