Ahriman UPDATE!

Almost finished with the gold to match his face. Still need to do a off white final highlight and darken the shadows with Scorched Brown as Bestial Brown is the darkest shadow. Just had to stretch my legs after sitting so long and decided to show you what I got

Really nice work on Ahriman... your NMM technique has loads of pop to it and does a good job of pulling focus to the model's face. Well done.

Now, the real question is, are you considering doing a NMM technique when you paint your army of Reborn?
Granted, that is making the assumption that you will choose the Reborn paint-scheme for your army... not that I'm suggesting that you choose it... or... oh, wait... actually, I am.

If you're already leaning towards them, I say go for it. NMM or not, you have the skills to really make it work and seeing a whole force like that across the table would be quite a treat for your opponent.

Best of luck, whichever scheme you choose to go with.

@ GitSmack

Thanx for the compliments You bring up a good idea making 'Reborn' NMM. I'm still trying to figure what color they are. Gold or brass or what? And then seeing if I can pull off a convincing NMM on the metal considering Ahriman is my first attempt. When he's finished I work up some demo minis and post them to see what people like.

I vote for "Reborn." Steel Brethren would be awesome, but I'd really like to see you tackle something harder

One question, what is NMM?

Second question, are you still going to go through the csm codex and paint a model from each army?

Looks like I'm going to do 'the Reborn'. Got 2 Chaos Renegade Strike Force Boxes on the way which puts me at 3k points not counting the models I already have.

NMM- Non Metallic Metal

Yes I will be doing a model for each army in the chaos codex. I think I'll use the last SM's for my AoBR box or order another box of khorne berzerkers and that should cover it.

As I put up my new site and dropped 5,000 business cards around town the commission paint jobs are rolling in. (thank god for dipping) But I promise to dedicate 2 hours a night and full weekends to my chaos army.

OPINIONS on bases for 'reborn'?

I'll most likely buy resin bases but what theme? Industrial, ancient ruins, etc?

here's some examples:

all from Micro Art Studios

Ahriman's on one of these.

Got my first dipping session in. Using a catachan jungle fighter and Army Paint Quick Shade soft color.

And some AoBR marines I airbrushed Desert Yellow over and also dipped in Quick Shade.

Still wet but I'll show them when detailed a bit and anti-shined.

First Reborn Draft started. Just tried to make him look like a statue to see if I could pull off the 'tarnished' look. What do you think?
The details will be painted I just want to know if you guys think I made "antique armor" as the Reborn should have. Thanx!

thanks for that. the chaos bases are just sweet. but i dont recommend it for your ahriman as it's very similar to the chaos one. the Temple base looks good in my book.

The armor is suppose to look like ancient gold lol not copper so I did a little more to it using 2 golds since the brass wasn't cutting it.. ARE WE GETTING CLOSER?

well im not too sure if gold stains like that, (the way copper does)

as for your pic now, yea, i think the look you're going for is being achieved.

I agree. I'm just trying to stay close to the description and the codex picture. Says they wear antique gold armor and the pic shows tarnishing. I'm stuck lol..

The marines look great, allthough one thing worries me. I hope that adding the rest of the paint work makes them more livelike, cause the colours and techniques to paint them till now are also used by a lot of people to create bronze statues for scenery.

The only details to be painted really are the bolter, eyes, flex tubes. And a bit if weathering to create soot on the exhausts. But pretty much it's going to look how it does now, besides the black trim on shoulders and insignia.

I like either of the first two sets of bases. I think an "active" base will compliment the statue quality of the paintscheme. By that I mean a base that gives the impression of them stalking through a city, or traversing active terrain.

As for the paint scheme, it's amazing. Not to hang on your balls or anything, but you honestly inspire me to be a better painter. Looks good, keep it up!

Thanx for that Lint. It's comments like that that make me strive to become better. I spend a lot of time reading about painting techniques, watching video tutorials, and trying new stuff. I try to share what I discover.

A good place I found tutorials is http://www.brushthralls.com/painting-techniques/2.html. Lots of cool stuff to try there.

LB, Gold tarnishing is a bit less noticeable. Usually seen as a bit of a brownish sheen to the gold like in this photo:

The green verdigris is (from my limited knowledge) a copper thing.

If you were to start over again, I'd suggest going with gold base coat followed by a heavy brown wash and drybrush the high points with gold again.

That's good info GD. I only know of 'fake' gold turning green. The problem I have is do I do gold and brown wash to be acurate with the gold armor 'the reborn' are said to have or stick with the copper oxidation. I think if I had to choose I'll stay with the copper because I've never seen a whole army done. But what do you guys think?

I think the copper will work for you. I was just pointing out something matter of fact.

Finish up your test piece and see how it looks at 100%!
