People are worrying way too much about the visuals. Just worry about the story.

ya ya... you worry too much about the story, worry about the visuals. Do I win?

This thread should be shut down at this point until the movie comes out and we can all bitch at each other over facts instead of one side commenting on concrete evidence (the visuals) and then being barked at by the other side fantasy spanking themselves that the story will be of Tolkien'esque proportions and excellence based on... well nothing at all as of yet.

What do you say mods?? Locky locky til release???

@MajorTom11

I don't think theres a need to lock the thread. Hell, I guess, at the end of the day its their money....let them get on with it.

@Ouroborus

If I didn't worry about the visuals, I would buy an audio book and be done with it. As such, the selling point of the DVD is, well, the visuals?!?! People are paying to SEE the WH40K universe brought to life on screen, they're not just paying for a story....Black Library provides the "story".

However, happy hunting with your purchase.

I was just talking to my wife and we agreed that it would be fine to buy for $20. She didn't have a problem with me showing my support for it at that price point. Bear in mind I don't think I've paid over $5 for a DVD in year unless it's a season of a show I like. At $40 it's crazy. I'd love to buy it to show there is a market for more of them even if the graphics aren't amazing. They seem fine to me as long as their not fighting with swords But heres to hoping it comes out in a regular edition......

Agreed, to say they have been working on it 1+ year it sucks, maybe if they didn't have such a bland storyline (space marines vs chaos space marines) and such terrible graphics it might be worth buying.

you don't know that the story line will be bland SM vs CSM =/= bland automatically.

that you CANNOT say until the movie has been released and/or you have watched it.

Have they said anything about a blu ray version? I'd rather just wait for that than get the dvd version, only to have them suddenly announce the Super Special Deluxe Collectors Anniversary Ultimate I Love Space Marines And So Do You Bluest Ray Edition.

Happens to me every time :(

Create space marine. Copy a dozen times. Change a few small details.
Create some heads (most of the work seems to have gone here from what Iv seen).

Take one space marine. Add new colour, horns and a pinch of "Blood for the Blood God" and wala! Chaos marine.
Create some heads.

Create some sets. LOTS of sets hopefully. With guns!

Create weapons. Change colour and details accordingly. Duplicate to marines and chaos.

Add voices from famous people which cost lots of monies and could have been spent on the movie quality instead.

Add animation (lots of work in animation, well, there should be. What I saw was rather bad).
Add and edit camera work (this was done by the team 8yo to save monies)

Add lighting. Or.. light? Screw the light, just use the default ambient light.

GW sells copies at stupidly high price (surprise that).

Profit.

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

Lol fair point! To be honest, the most it's going to get from me is a rent, I don't see watching it more than once unless the total package is top quality. Just IMO, but I don't really buy blur ays/DVDs anymore unless I really, and I mean really loved the movie.

Still, the quote above was more to say the thread is going in aggressive circles at this point, so until we can fully discuss the story, the entire package as a whole, we are just perpetuating a never ending argument here.

Ok, I'll admit that they could have tried a little harder. However, for me at least, story is king. If there is an engaging story then I won't care if it looks dated. There's plenty of dated CG movies that I still like.

Do you actually think that this movie will have a good story? Do you actually think an 80 minute toy commercial about 7-foot-tall supermen with little-to-no potential for character development is going to have a good story? If they're that stingy with their animation and modelling budget, do you actually think that they'd spend any money on a decent script?

Seriously, it's going to be an animated abortion. Jump ship now before they take your money with it.

Most of the BL books will disagree with you about character development not being possable for a SM.

and we have the best BL author writing the script for this movie. it won't be horrible.

The fact that this story is set Sm vs C:SM shouldnt really be a surprise, considering the time/money/resoucres the small company has had avaliable.

Im hoping for slightly supbar (but still watchable) animations and a good storyline (c'mon Abnett...) I wonder what a non-limited edition will cost?

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

I think the point he was trying to make is that 80 minutes of video and a 400+page book are drastically different in terms of how much backstory and character development you can build in. I would tend to agree.

My biggest fear with this is that is will be treated as a cheesy intro to 40k, as opposed to being a film for established fans, one that assumes we already know about the fluff and really trying to do something with the story first, selling 40k second.

I don't know why but that bit where they say we shall know no fear makes me cringe every time.
If it comes out on regular dvd I may buy it but I'm not paying out twenty six quid for one if I only end up watching it once.

Well, it looks cool because its seeing 40k characters duking it out on film...

but if it was any other film, i'd have to agree...it looks like it was made 10-15 years ago.
