God I hope the story and acting will make me be able to overlook this beast wars era rendering, with badly overdone compositing to cover up the fact there are no backgrounds in half the shots...

I really don't get how GW thinks this will go over after the amazing cinematics in DOW1 and the upcoming space marine game...

Because it has Space Marines and Chaos and Guns and explosions and blood and explosions and other stuff and oh yeah Space Marines ...

Some people are never happy

Sorry through my over excitement I might has missed your point

I'm hope you're not talking about Damnatus, which is freaking amazing.

If you haven't seen it, it's a German 40k fan fic featuring a bunch of IG desertees and hivers and PDF guys getting pulled by =][= to go investigate the underhive for corruption. It features Polymorphine, an awesome Tech Priest named Octavius (he's a right badass) radical Inquisitors and a lot more. Can be slightly confusing at points if you don't speak German, but very well done given their limited budget. Also, very dark, which is fitting for the universe. Don't be expecting a happy ending.

I'm fairly certain it got a cease and desist letter from GW, but it may or may not still exist if you know where to look.

Mesopotamia. The Kingdom Where we Secretly Reign.

I was seriously unimpressed with what I've seen of Damnatus.

This movie looks a lot better, TBH.

Why are Ultramarines so much better than the Black Legion, especially when most of them are 'New Battle Brothers' and the BL have had Millenia of experience. Seems a bit silly to me.

Because they have received the honour of fighting AS Ultramarines ... also because John Hurt says they are the bestest

Ew.... I really hope they up the production value here, the models and everything look like a team of first year animators did it. I'll still hold out hope.

People are not paying attention. The movie is finished, the release date is next month. Sets are already being packaged and getting ready for distribution. WYSIWYG.

I'll wait until they get their gak together and buy it.

Not the greatest looking CGI in the world, but I'm interested in seeing some Space Marines smack down some Xenos.

Final Fantasy advent children was a straight to dvd small market outing too, it's not so much bitching as expressing dissapointment with a very poorly executed piece of CG, technically speaking. Haven't seen the movie, not going to review the story, acting or voice-overs, but based on this trailer, I am very confident saying that the animation, rendering, modelling and 2d visual effects compositing are 10 years behind the curve. Even made for tv serial cg cartoons look better....

Yeah... this is kinda what I was expecting. It's really too bad.

I had been hoping for something more along the lines of the DOW2 intro, but maybe there's hope for the future.

The voices seem a bit... off. Personally (although I really like the cast), I felt that DOW2 also had a better and more fitting set of sounds for the 40k universe.

Apparently the bad voice overs and poorly executed CG is not stopping anyone from buying it.

Wine and Cheese aside, I liked the action scenes. I'm not a fan of Ultramarines, though. I'll watch it at the local shop and move on.

I will definately be checking back for this one. I cant see the video from work but I'm going to buy it anyway. If enough people buy it they may do another, better one. I mean the games didnt really get up to par until they started getting a pretty good following (IMO) so I'm going to buy either way. At the end of the day at least I'll have it as a conversation piece with the graphic novel and such.

Well, as much as I am dissapointed with the visual quality, I am still hoping that it does well, so they keep going and improving. I'll deal with a few stinkers if in 4-5 years they put out something that lives up to the promise of the game cg trailers! Hope that mitigates my bitching a touch lol.

It is a start...but why did they have to start so low on the quality is beyond me. I can understand funding and what not. I just think maybe a little more time could have been spent on the fluidity of the animation.

Oh well, like I said...it is a start. Hopefully with money pulled in the quality will improve on the next movie, if there is one.

I really think the wrong animation company was selected for this project. It very clearly retains the style of the studio's previous Bionicle films, which is fine for that genre/style, but doesn't translate very well to the 40k visual style.

Hmmm good enough that I want to preorder it, if only I can :( Not thrilled with the CGI and lack of backgrounds, but at least John Hurt will be accessing the Story Teller nostalgia while watching

Nope, they really needed to have Blur do all their animation for this.

Heh... No, this isn't persecution

Final Fantasy was a major hit in Japan (movies there - anime ones, too) debut at the big screen. And the team working on it re-rendered scenes for the blu-ray release. I'll agree with you, I wished the CGI to be better, but hey... if this is a hit, maybe it'll spawn a few more movies with a better budget. I don't really know about this team, don't know if they're under GW's wing... Still, if I'm able, I'll probably order the movie. I'm liking the collector's edition a lot.

I for one am hoping for more substance over the visual quality. Some of my favourite movies are around 50 years old, and still some of the best. Look like crap compared to say, Avatar...as a recent example, but how weak was that movie?

I reckon I'll preorder, I'm a slut for fancy packaging.

If they want my money, then the quality is up for review. Negativity would be saying it looks not great when it is magnificently rendered.

Calling sub-par sub-par, giving examples and specific reference vs. comparable product markets and budgets is REALISM.

Anyhoo, I don't think myself or anyone is looking to pick fights or hoping someone like yourself won't love it. I hope you do! As I said, despite my personal dissapointment, I hope it does well so they make more and get better at it!

Wow I have to say I am incredibly dissapointed.....after seeing the screen shots planning etc.....

The CGI looked very outdated, the skins and textures are not rich at all, and for some reason the proportions and joints look off to me.....Its the details that make CG convincing at all and this has very few....I'm happy they are trying to make a movie but would have expected quite a bit more.

The scenes all look very empty, with tons of dust covering up the mistakes and poor production quality.....After talking with my buddy who programs for Blizzard he thinks it looks like a joke.......I have to say I agree.

Maybe if there is success they will actually take some time on the next one but this feels very rushed to me in every aspect....I'll reserve my final judgement for after I see the movie but I can't say I will be looking forward to it.

Sorry to burst some bubbles I know everyone wont agree with me, but hey what can you do...
