The detail in the shadings and the highly complementary color scheme is executed to a high degree. Using so many colors runs the risk of presenting a chaotic kaleidoscope of disjointed, run-together impressions- this is a composite whole composed of painstakingly applied detail.

Rock on!

Thank you for the kind words Meer_Cat, greatly appreciated. I think staring at the model too long made me see all my imperfections so I'm glad it looks okay!

Much appreciated CB, same to you! Those ruins are looking fantastic.

Again thank yous all for the kind comments.

Although I should have really be getting on with painting the Hernkyn Pioneers, they are a right pain to paint I have one halfway finished, just needs highlights and the base.

In the meantime, I've been using the rest of the Kharadron Overlords box to make some more miners. They will count as Hearthkyn tooled up with bolters but I wanted them to have a more archaic look. The theme I have for my custom League is one of ancestor veneration, more exaggerated than other Kyn. Certainly with these miners I wanted them to have a more militia like quality, as if they are joining the main force to defend their mine workings.

A little trimming down in places to get the arms to fit on the Kharadron bodies but really a very simple bit of converting.

I'm very happy with the special weapons, using the Kharadron weapons to make an antique looking L7 missile launcher and the magna rail. I wanted both to look as if they were being used as blasting equipment. My main favourite is the gigantic periscope which is formerly a big old horn from the 7th edition Dwarf warriors kit. It is meant to be the pan-spectral scanner, because I didn't have one spare! Originally I planned to make it a giant hearing trumpet, something like a geophone maybe to listen out of enemy tunnellers or trapped miners. Unfortunately, that would have been an enormous faff. So I went for a periscope instead, I can imagine them peeking out from cave entrances with it. I'm going to greenstuff that a little to make an obvious lens, plus there's a couple of little gaps to fill.

Cheers all,

EDIT: for some reason those photos are a little blurry on this page but not in the gallery.

Thankee kindly all you wonderful folk.

// Soft humans would call this a desolate, uninhabitable, planet. For the Kyn, this was a place of beauty and full to the brim with precious ores and minerals. Ulngred coasted the bike down a long gully that scored its way across the planet surface. The bike hummed quietly as it floated over large boulders and difficult terrain. The rest of his squadron blazed along behind, the red bikes bearing the Norhymbre Cooperative colours a beacon in a world of endless twilight. Piercing headlights lit up the ground and startling the strange wildlife. The scanner above his shoulder gave a soft trill and Ulngred's eyes widened as the results scrolled across the screen. "Howay lads, this way to the motherlode!" He gunned the engine and dove towards the cave entrance //

Second Hernkyn Pioneer! I actually painted this last week but I've had such a time of it with work this week so not done much more.

Final biker finally completed, had a long slog with zero motivation so it feels great to have finished a mini! This is also the last of the Votann army box! So I'll have to try and take an army shot photo!

Up next I plan to paint my Thunderkyn, so I'll try and power through them.

Cheers for now.

Man, that demi-squadron looks good! One was terrific, but three in mass brings a whole new effect: almost more well-balanced color and detail than the eye can take in!

Thanks ph34r!

Little update in the form of the first of my Thunderkyn. It took me a little while to decide on their weapons but I figure the 36" heavy bolters are too fun to pass up, plus they look the coolest.

I actually finished painting the second one tonight but too late to take photos now, will do that tomorrow.

Once the Thunderkyn are done I've got a Sagitaur and 10 Hearthkyn and some Einhyr to build.

Cheers all.

Space Dwarves are looking brilliant mate. When they were first announced, I thought that they would mesh well with the KO line but before this thread I hadn't seen it in action. They are seamless and super characterful.

Loving the contrast between the large amounts of red/orange and then the pops of colour with both the blues and the basing - really pleasing to the eye.

Can't wait to see more!

Hey thanks Tzurk! Really appreciate it. I was worried that the scaling would be a little off before I bought the KO box but with a little cutting and wiggling it all seemed to fit together nicely!

Not Online!!! wrote:Good job. Also that banner is so perfectly old school!

Cheers Not Online! Yeah I'm pretty happy with that banner, I think the original design is from the 6th edition army book?

Another Thunderkyn down with one to go! I was quite pleased with the lenses on this one, they are from the Thunderkyn kit so I just added them over the KO helmet.

I planned to add this squad to the Painting Challenge but I painted that first one before I remembered to add to the challenge thread

One left before it's some new minis!

Thanks Gobert, yes I did that on one of the bases and forgot about it for the rest maybe I will touch that up, it is meant to line up with the vents on the hover plates. I always want to tone down the headlights a bit on the trikes, they look a bit too over saturated.

Had a bit of progress with the last Thunderkyn, applied some washes and so just need to do the highlights and finish up the base.

In the meantime, I forgot I never took a photo of the Sagitaur I built a couple of weeks ago.

I wanted to add a few Dwarfy bits but didn't want to go overboard, actually quite difficult to add much to the design without it looking off. I think the limited design add ons were enough.

I also spent a little bit of time making a design for The Norhymbre Cooperative.

Only made it in Paint so it really needs a little updating to make it a bit cleaner but that's the gist.

My plan is to buy some transfer paper and then print off some designs to add on my minis.

Cheers for now.

The sagitaur is quite a cute little buggy, the dwarf details look spot on too. With a bit of practice I reckon you could freehand the logo well enough. It also gives me some Angel of the North vibes with the cross on the right

I reckon I could freehand it too but I pity my wrists I hadn't thought of that actually but I might have to make it look more angelic! It's just the Saxon letters for N and C (Norhymbre Cooperative).

EDIT: oops forgot to add the new photos!

Yes, the last Thunderkyn is complete and I'm pretty pleased with how they look together.

++ In a bizarre twist of fate, the Kin of the Norhymbre Cooperative laid siege to their own mine holdings. Bolt rounds ripped into their targets, bright green ichor fountaining from wounds that tore into the hideous, chitinous horde that scuttled towards their lines. As soon as they had answered the distress horns, the monstrous new inhabitants had boiled out of the ground in an unending tide. Byrthrund's optical array honed in on a new target, something large and ominous seemed to be orchestrating the alien beasts. "By the beards of Gytha, look at the size of that big bugger. Keep firing!" ++

Now to decide whether I paint the Sagitaur or my Hernkyn Miners..

With the 10th edition box hurtling towards my wallet I realised I should probably paint the rest of my Indomitus marines before that turns up..

Cheers for now!

With bank holiday comes motivation and free time.
So I managed to paint my Judiciar in no time at all.

And so The Knights of Fey have themselves some spiritual succour and a welcome addition to their forces. The Knights of Fey are Dark Angels Successors and up until their near destruction, were hunters of many ancient relics and tech. Bolstered by Primaris reinforcements, they have returned to their homeworld to rebuild and redeploy.

Nice triumvirate of hearthkyn, I like how they have a bit of northern dialect in their fluff too!

I know the feeling of temptation by the new terminators but still not started on the Indomitus Marines (I finished the Necrons at least!). The knights of fey sound intriguing, will they be a bit bretonnian themed (didn’t they have a Lady of the Fay?) or something else entirely? The Judiciary is a cracking start, can’t wait to see what the main scheme (schemes?) is like
