Hey there,
I'm finally getting back into 40k after about 4 years of art school. All the while lurking on DakkaDakka to keep current with the game. I went ahead and ordered enough pig iron helmets to last me a good while.
My army will be largely based on Cadian Models, Sentinels, Chimera Hulls as transports and battle tanks. I may play around with storm troopers and ogryns later.
I'd like to credit/blame Flinty and his amazing Dunedin for the inspiration and motivation to build this army. I'll do my best not to borrow too much from you, Flinty!
Below is the color scheme for the troops.
This is a JPG from a photoshop color template my girlfriend illustrated for me.
light grey armor, helmet, and gaiters
terra-cotta fatigues
converted short pattern lasguns (lasguns are so long!)
pig-iron helmets
I like how Tau light armor over darker cloth pops. It looks cleaner and easier to see on a game table.
My plan to distinguish squads is a stripe of color(platoon) and a number(squad) on a shoulder pad.
What is the call now a days with casting for personal usage? Say I don't want to convert EVERY lasgun in my army. Would GW seek me out through DakkaDakka to financially spank me if I was to cast cadian right arms with modified lasguns?

Aces. Looks good. Always nice to see someone else using proper helmets rather than those weird Kolony jobs With the gaiters are you planning on extending the standard Cadian boots, or is the sketch merely artistic licence? Have you thought about vehicle schemes yet? Regarding casting for personal use I don't think there is anything they can do about it. Also they probably don't care because you need to buy all the arms along with the rest of the Cadian sprue anyway As long as you don't start trying to sell the stuff on.

Theres a bit of artistic licence, she commented on the proportions. Your average human is roughly 7 heads tall... an IG is only 5 As for vehicle schemes... not too sure yet. Probably going to stick with grey. But I'm mustering up the courage to do a grey/ terra cotta pattern.

In addition to the helmets, I got this guy from Pig-Iron as well.
Yes, I cut off the torso and drilled divots into the neck and waist joints to give him more posing options.
Anyone care to guess at the GW bits I used to make him?
Hint: the bits come from 4 different armies
After seeing the images, I noticed that huge mold line on his fist/arm. I'll file those off soon.

The waist was fun to make: I drilled a divot under the torso and used the neck of a CSM head pinned ,upside down, to the legs.

Good eye!
Half of a CSM smoke launcher for frag grenades
Tau battlesuit sensor for a head
Ork shoota and IG grenade launcher drum for the ripper gun
and as I stated before CSM necks for a waist and neck!
I'm off the the flgs today, I'll post something when I get home.

So I wasn't able to pick up the IG battle force, my flgs was sold out. However a friend of mine let me borrow half a sprue.
I used arms from a sprue I had left over from a whiles back. I'm not too keen on this new darker plastic as it tends to rip and tear
What do you think of the cut down SM backpack? Too much? I'm thinking of making it even thinner, and replacing the skull with a vent instead.
But that can wait until later, its time for bed.

Looks good. I'm wondering what the backpack is for though. It doesn't look openable and the guy doesn't seem to ahve anything that would need a big power supply.
The short pattern lasgun looks nice. Is the winged skull damaged by the shortening or is it just the angle?

Curiously enough I started something very similar a couple of nights ago. Using a differant Pig Iron head but similar gun mod and Pig iron backpack/equipment sprues. Liking what you are doing here though, I wish I had come up with that Ogryn/Robot idea when placing my Pig Iron order. I can see it being stolen in the near future! Keep up the good work mate.

After messing around with the backpack, I decided to scrap it. It was just too bulky, and once I chopped it down further it reminded me too much like a tau backpack. The little nub on the back of the flak armor drives me nuts, so I'm removing them from models that have a flamer/ heavy flamer. The short pattern lasgun looks nice. Is the winged skull damaged by the shortening or is it just the angle?
I had to remove one of the wings, but: No skulls were harmed in the creation of this gun. It's easier to make a Short-Las out of the Catachan Lasgun... but the cadian guns are attached to the arm already. I guess my planet really has something against abhumans... Ogryns are servitor driven robots... and ratlings: Will be substituted with kneeling guardsmen armed with one of these... and a scope once I get my hands on a few. The Long-Las is made merely by removing the Cadian barrel and replacing it with the longer Chatachan barrel. This is just a test piece, I mangled the body of the Long-Las when I took it off the sprue. After rereading the new codex... I wont have any need for Stormtroopers... But I am tempted to use the plastic scouts to represent Vets with carapace armor and shotguns.

That's pretty disturbing, but I think he has a point... Anyway, you went away from the backpack idea, so that's no big deal, but this was funny...

Just got back from the flgs with my IG battle force. Also traded some terrain I had lying around collecting dust for a plastic scout box set. They seem like good candidates for either stormtroopers or veterans in carapace armor.
