I think it's really just a side effect of the seasons being shorter (while episodes are a little longer) and the content taking on a more complex dynamic than the antics that made up the bulk of the first two seasons.

First season had four additional episodes for sixteen total, but the second and third only had the same twelve as this season had as well.

I am disappointed that the new 'standard' for Animation seasons is only 12 or so episodes. Day was when a single Animation season had a good 20 or more in it- like Miraculous Ladybug's got.

And yes, that's totally anime. It's a Magical Girl animated series produced with Toei. You don't get much more Anime.

And we finally have a release date for Samurai Jack. It's airing on Toonami so I figured it counts for the thread.

I always figured it was better to lump just about any cartoon in here than run whole other threads for Western Animation every time it comes up.

Super excited for Jack. Easily one of the coolest cartoons ever to air on TV and the return to complete the story is long overdue. Here's hoping the show can keep its unique flare upon its return.

That looks really Really good but I'm trying to keep my hopes down after the poor PPG return and the full year delay Jack got.

Ahh, but the difference here is that Genndy Tartakovski is still doing Jack, whereas PPG wasn't under Faust or McCracken.

Kazuma, Kazuma (I'm Kazuma) you really need to stop giving your party members PTSD.

At least Darkness had some fun.

Spoiler:
Holy Celestine the debt's gone. For those last two minutes I kept waiting to see how it'd get ruined, but they're finally free. Huzzah!

That episode was great.

Spoiler:
I love Vanir. Watching him possessing Darkness was hilarious. So sad he's dead though :(. I loved his idea for the perfect death. Such a great troll
I personally would have gone for a mimic, but a scrap of paper works too
I really hope the next episode isn't the last. With a title like that it looks like the end

Also, holy gak how high was the bounty on Vanir and the Destroyer, for them to not only clear the debt but also yield a 40mil eris profit 0_o

Vanir was just like in the novels, a hilariously massive troll right down to his oddly specific dying wish. One of the best episodes to date for sure!

As for his ultimate fate..

Spoiler:
Vanir will return and if they follow the original materials will hook up with a side character for a while, as she fulfils his desire for negative emotions perfectly.

Vanir will hopefully also be doing some specific merchandise that will tie into a later moment of awesome for Kazuma (Kazuma desu).

Well, just recently rewatched one of my favorite classics, Record of Lodoss War... it never gets old to me.

Where'd you watch it? I've been slowly catching up with some of the older, classic anime- Slayers is pretty entertaining, and I'd love to find someplace to watch the original Bubblegum Crisis.

I can't speak for NH, but I stalk my local second hand record stores. The ones in my area have a decent selection of anime. I managed to find a complete series of Record of Lodoss War... though I didn't realize it was a Chinese knockoff until I showed it to my friends >_<

Good news about Bubblegum Crisis, if you're interested in supporting the anime in America industry, Animeigo got the rights and released a new DVD and Bluray version. They've been doing about 1 or 2 kickstarters a year to rerelease some of these older shows. They've done Bubblegum Crisis, Otaku no Video, and just recently Riding Bean (though I still haven't gotten my copy of Riding Bean yet).

Regarding Konosuba;

Season 2 seems to be pushing the Darkness/Kazuma pairing pretty hard. Anyone know if there's payoff in the LNs?

Also, who else is watching ACCA? It's the only totally serious show I've been watching this season, and the slow burn is still great.

Girls und Pazer. Half-way through episode 5. I'm sort of disappointed, the M4A1 is a great tank, but they don't have a single Pershing? Although I guess it would be a little mean, most of their tanks (except perhaps the Stug III) would have a hell of a time peirceing their armour, and that 95mm gun would punch right through a tiger's armour.

Enjoying ACCA as well. Like you said, the slow burn is great. I keep watching it thinking there are probably easter eggs being shown that are pointing to the true plot and true master mind(s).

I own it, along with Chronicles of the Heroic Knight. I hunt eBay every now and than and pick up older anime, I got the remastered Mobile Suit Gundam sealed for $15, Gundam Wing for $20, Ghost in the Shell complete box set for $30 I think. As long as you are patient you can find just about anything for a great price.

on the forum. Obviously

So, I saw the Psycho Pass movie.
Its ok. There is a couple of dumb things that bother me though.

1) Why are the rebels so damned incompetent? Like, they only served to fulfil the gore quotient. I get that Urobuchi has a hardon for gory deaths, but christ man at least make one of them somewhat useful.
Spoiler:
Or survive for that matter.

Spoiler:
2) Apparently even country is in ruins except Japan. bs. First off, why? I don't remember an apocalypse level event being mentioned. GITS had WWIII, and even then you still had functioning states.

Secondly, you mean to tell me that Russia, China, the United States and Europe, for all their wealth, power, and size, somehow fell apart without coming up with a suitable way of maintaining order? bs x2

Thirdly, by making Japan the only functioning state, they're basically saying Sybil is the only system that works. Which means we won't see any cool Cold War-esque clash of Ideologies. Lame.

If you are going to write a setting that tries to be all intelligent and talk about the philosophies of law, order and maintaining a functional society, get your geopolitics straight.

3) Speaking of Sybil, do they ever fething lose? Like, I get that its meant to be a bleak setting and that Sybil is not supposed to be a perfect system, but they always seem to get what they want. They killed Shogo, they "corrected" their error and killed Kamui, and now they are
Spoiler:
going to expand into a large chunk of Asia
, and apparently they are the only system that ever works in the world, honest. bs x9001

I guess they are as bad as Hollywood in that case.
Is Urobuchi Michael Bay's bloodbrother?
He does seem to like explosions...of blood.

All right, I'm being a bit harsh. Buchi can actually write a script, for one thing

And Bay is a lot more fond of happy endings.

Did... did I just say something positive about Bay?

I... urp... I need a bucket...

Uro also likes guns, so I'll give him his fair due. Fate/Zero was pretty sweet in my opinion.

You know, as... slow, as Japan is regarding acceptance and integration of the disabled and like into society, this show is handling the material beautifully.

I could write so many psychology papers if Stats hadn't been required. Eh, at least we have Hikari's cape flapping.

This week on Youjo Senki -

Spoiler:
turns out Being X is orchestrating the outbreak of a world war just to make life even harder for Tanya. god is a troll confirmed.

What I did find interesting the wording of his taunt "the whole world will be against you. To me this foreshadows that the Empire will end up betraying Tanya in the end out of fear for her power and cruelty, just as her previous incarnation was killed in the other world for his cruelty
