Pretty self explainatory. I'm curious if others have that soft spot in their army for a certain unit or character. Its something I've notice I have, but keep laughing at myself about. I'm curious if others have this same thing, it can be 40k, Fantasy, Privateer press, etc. But if you do, what unit in your army do you continue to use, under preforms, but you've got the guts to keep throwing it in there. Also a little back story/ fluff if you want to throw in it.

Example:
I'm mainly a WFB player, I play a good amounts of the local tournments, and attend most of the GT's in the region of the North East. I'm mainly a skaven players. But i've got my dwarves who were my first real WFB army that I painted, and am revising. No matter what army lists I write, theorize, or use, i've always managed to somehow find a unit of Slayers in the list. I've caught myself. Sometimes i'd slip that lone Slayer character in there without rune's. Or I think, hey I have enough points for 10 Troll Slayers, plug that him there.

To me I find them hysterical. They die in handfuls to shooting and magic often. They have been Conflagerationed off the board numerous times, I watch a buddy shoot them dead on turn 1 to Dark Elf cross bows, my all time memorable loss was losing pretty much the unit to 1 charge from a bone giant with sustained attack (that hurt). But I find them fun! No one every said "i hate you brought slayers." I find them funny, launitic dwarves with big battle axes, and pretty much are clothed by a beard as models. I painted my pale skin tones, with fire red and super highlighted beards, and now i'm working on runes and body paint. But in the back of my head always the thought...

"So much work for a unit without an armor save, that's now in 8th edition likely to always strike last." But maybe i'll get to fight a steam tanks

For me it's not so much a unit, but a set of models. My 2nd edition starter box ork boyz!

I know they are rubbish models, but I love them simply for nostalgia (the first mini's I owned AND painted!) Even went out and bought a 2nd edition nob a month or so ago to lead them!

I use a Death Hag Battle Standard Bearer in my Dark Elves army because its cool, but everyone keeps telling me that its throwing points away and completely sub-par.

But my Dark Elves army's fluff is that their general is a Supreme Sorceress, Maevina Canthus, who has seized control of an Ark (the Ark of Kaanan) by manipulating the tension between the sexes, playing the women against the men in order to maintain her power base.

So, for example, all of the Repeater Crossbowmen are female, and all of the Spearmen are male, with the Spearmen often used as the anvil against which the hammer strikes -- so they die a lot. And the hammer is a death star of Witch Elves.

And consequently, the Witch Elves get the BSB, so she needs to be a Khainite, which means she needs to be a Death Hag. Specifically she is Meliaduel Canthus, the fanatically loyal daughter of Maevina, which helps Maevina control the Witch Elves and thus the Ark.

I never run my black Templars without my Marshal, he is Marshal Viktor Gorgon. And he is one mean Templar. Not only does he have many short stories writen after him, he also has had a model in my crusade for a great deal of time, though it has been converted, painted, repainted and scrached. His "spirit" lives on in my current Gorgon model.

Oddly enough he lives true to his heroic background, slaying countless HQ and elite units in battles that were thought impossible for him. And I have even kept track of the more amazing kills that he has walked away with.

My IG MOO. He always scatters harmlessly away, never gets any kills, but I just can't bring myself to remove him from any of my 2000+ point list. I think it's because of this I fiercly protect him...he gets his own personal Chimera...

I must say that my nurgle daemon prince has a special place in my heart. Third item I ever bought from GW, equipped with semi-transparent wings I flogged from an old toy dragon, always got his points back every single game. Hell, back in Chaos 3.5 when he had a manreaper he would carry half the battle himself at 1000pts.

I almost always include land speeders. I own 10 land speeders, one of which is has the missile pods. I also have a Master of the Raven Wing on a speeder, for a total of 11 speeders. I like to play a speeder heavy Raven Wing army at times. In my normal armies, I still usually take a few speeders along.

With my Space Marines I have my Thudd Gun crewed by Techmarine Bob. I use it as a Thunderfire Cannon, and it proves to be incredible every time I use it.

My Nobz are my precious unit in my Ork army - I get kind of bummed when my Battlewagon blows up before I even get to use them.

Everything in my Guard army is pretty expendable. I used to have a soft spot for everybody since I spent more time painting them than my Marines or Orks, but when they die in droves every game you really can't try to make a big deal out of it.

Hi

The 2 I have are my ten man imperial guard command squad (2 bodyguards, Astropath, Officer of the fleet, Master of ordnance) which tends to sit back in the apocalypse games that are its home (My only imperial guard models.) and its only kills so far are 3 of my orks, my daemon prince and 2 of my raptors. And my daemon prince, my old metal daemon prince that never stayed together, I believe it has one leg stuck to the base and a pile of bits and people still let me use it.

A firm believer in yin and yang.

Carnifex. Gets killed every time, but I just love the guy to pieces. So useless, and yet I'm considering getting another one to make them a unit.

"If you really want to know what it was like, to fight in the air in the great War, then go up to someone you have never met and who has never done you the slightest harm and pour a two-gallon tin of petrol over them. Then apply a match, and when they are nicely ablaze, push them from a fifteenth-floor window after first perhaps shooting them a few times in the back with a revolver. And be aware as you are doing these things that ten seconds later someone else will quite probably do them to you. This will exactly reproduce... the substance of First World War aerial combat and will cost your country nothing. It will also avoid the necessity of ten million other people to die in order for you to enjoy it."

I'm not totally thrilled with their current incarnation rules wise , but I love the models enough to include them more times than not...

My Bestigors, without a doubt.

I call them the "Typhoon of Dark Iron" because I've painted all their weapons jet black, in memory of when they, along with my Beastlord and Battle Standard Bearer, tore through a Chosen Deathstar, along with Festus and Sigvald, along with a lot of buffs from dual warshrines. My Beastlord also destroyed Sigvald in a challenge, which was pretty epic as I've always loved Sigvald as a special character.

16 Halberd Chosen along with Sigvald and Festus were slew in one round of combat by my Bestigors (who got the charge)

Festus survived, however, but the chaos player shot his hellcannon at my bestigor unit, and it scattered so it only hit Festus, who died.

The Dark Iron part came from the player who had named his deathstar the "Tornado of Dark Iron".

Makes them a unit that I will put into every single list.
