Hi folks!

My first post here, after the warm fuzzy glow of Kingdom Death's Poots mentioned this was a nice place to pop along to! How nice I guess I'll find out soon :p

Anyhoo, as a shameless self-promoter (because no-one else is gonna do it), I thought I'd try to get feedback for the little figures I've been busy producing under my company name of JoeK Minis (http://www.joekminis.com)

The web-site kind of explains it all, but basically I just wanted to make up figures that I'd personally like to paint up (one day...), and if anyone else cared to join in, they were more than welcome. All the figures are based around the 32mm size (so, I guess that means 28mm in GW scale :p ), are made out of high quality (and fairly pricey!) resin.

The latest figure is called Servant Prime and is actually a character originally created by a chap called Ricardo Delgado. Folks who like their comic books might know the name from his 'Age of Reptiles' books (which are being made up by Walt Disney as we speak!), but it was his 4 issue mini-series called 'Hieroglyph' from 1999 that I adored at the time, and have been wanting to create figures from the world ever since. After an awful lot of research, where I'm fairly sure he thought I was an utter moron, he finally decided that I was actually serious and gave me his blessing . I was doubly blessed to get Allan Carrasco to sculpt him for me! And here he is:

Currently, there's one other figure for sale on the site at the moment (the first figure is currently unavailable, and alas will probably not be coming back anytime soon :( ), and they're all there just waiting for folks to pick up and paint.

Hopefully...

Anyhoo, I'm always keen for feedback, crits and suggestions for future figures. I'm also very keen to have emails from new and upcoming sculptors. I love to see folks' work at the best of times, and if I like it, I'll be more than happy to pay for it and see it produced!

Thanks all

Joe

Well, even though I have no idea what he's from, I like the model.

Now how can I use it in 40k? Looks like he has only 4 fingers, so perhaps Ethereal?

A number of folk have said as much, although I've thought he could make some sort of Nurgle Herald-type character too.

Cant say I know the comic, but the sculpt is pretty, especially the robes which look fun to paint.
Is Servant Prime especially powerfull in the comic, or just an interesting character?

That's a great idea. It fits the Tzeentch idea well and gets away from the railroaded (and boring imo) current Tzeentch aesthetic.

Also, I like JoeK's story. That's a dude who really wanted to paint what he wanted.

He's (it? I dunno...) the main villain of the piece really, although it's all a bit of a mystery the basic tale involves an earthman landing on the planet to survey the world. Whatever scanners he uses from the ship doesn't show any life at all, but it's clear when he lands that the place is teeming with the stuff, and that there are ruins and civilisation of ages past showing different ages and creatures having exsisted. Basically, the issue is a simple one - religious war. The Hieroglyph of the title is some sort of magical amulet which can cause a whole lot of trouble for whichever side has it - the Servant Prime character is determined to use it to cause genocide in the world for the benefit of the gods he believes in.

Unlike here, it would appear that the gods of this planet actually exist! Which is probably a bit of a bugger for the poor earthman.

Anyhoo, this is all mostly extrapolation - the 4 issues of the comic only hinted at what had been happening, and left far too much mystery for me! Probably why I loved it so much. There are some snaps of the comic on my site, but alas the story never got made into a graphic novel, so chances are fairly slim that you'll be able to find it :(

Currently, I'm bugging Ricardo to do a deal with me that if out of my figure he gets more folk interested in it, he'll have to do more stories! Heh, fat chance I guess.

Now, if I can get the huge dinosaur creature with a rider made up that would be something special. Think the size of the LOTR Mumakil figure, and double it! Might cost a bit though :p

The positioning of her feet bother me. Too straight forward. Especially her left foot.
The quality of the actual sculpt, though, looks nice.

GIrlie has some breedin hips on her. Not a criticisim of skill at all, just an observation. I DO believe her left foot is SLIGHTLY pronated, MM; but could be wrong.

That Servant model is a tad creepy; I was thinking more of Inquisitorial retinue really. Calculus logi perhaps? But yeah, it would look good in any of the mentioned roles, esp. the Tau.

Hi folks

Just received a test cast of the next figure in the range: Papa Demon.

Needless to say, it's rather different from the other ones, and it's been great fun to watch him being made! It's come out nicely - I was a little worried after the last conversation I had with the casters - thought it might have been damaged in transit - but it's all nice

Here you go:

Personally I would rotate the head a little more to make it look like he's actually looking at what he's shooting. Also the pants and boots... kinda make him look like he went to a gay pride parade in San Francisco... sorry to say.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Kind of ironic that theleft leg on that kid/dol looks a tad phallic. Yeah, ol Papa Demon is a bit disturbing alright. For some reason I have images of him drawing down on that tit monster some other caster put up on dakka not long ago.
