Does anyone trip over themselves finding old models?

My buddies went to our favorite FLGS, The Dragon's Hoard in Staunton, VA, and found a treasure trove of old-school minis! I picked up an old terminator chaplain and techmarine, in addition to the first plastic land speeder. My buddy Steve found a complete Space Marine squad sprue, only missing the bases. Swordbrotherjim found some old Blood Angels, including a pack of transfers and a pack of self-adhesive banners.

Anyone else grab old models, if for nothing else, just to have and old _________________ (fill in the blank)?

I don't know about find but I still have some of the above. Old Devs, 2nd Edition tac squads, entirely metal dreadnaught, original Death Company and a whole box of RT and 2nd edition Eldar Aspect Warriors.

If I found an RT marine sprue though I think I might just have a little nerdgasm.

My wife threw out a box of old Space Hulk terminators & genestealers a few weeks ago. I wasn't pleased. At all.

Thanks to modern chemistry, sleep is now optional

Ouch.

I regularly find huge caches of properly, old models........sadly it's just in my cupboards. Makes both my wife and I cry.....for drastically different reasons

For $60 a guy sold me an army of RTBO1 Marines. 40 painted marines, 10 metal RT termies, 6 rhinos, 5 RT bikes!

Oh and he he threw in a box...

A brand new RTBO1 box, everything still on sprue!!

Says he never got interested in the stuff after ho bought it years and years ago...

I love the old models, I prefer them in many ways and still collect the odd one when one comes up that I really like. I have a few that I need to sell actually. Most of my army is Rogue Trader come to think of it.

I have Rogue Trader Space Orks, Chaos and some Eldar ooh and an Inquisitor and some Grey Knights.

I generally think they look better, they looked more animated. I guess it's just the boy in me being nostalgic though.

That's my Daemon Prince which is the old Keeper of Secrets model. He's in need a a repaint but I wub him the way he is.

I have old Rogue Trader era paints and Inks as well

I have a lot of RT and 2nd ed models in my armies.
My eldar army has many old figures (as guardians, storm guardians and scouts (Rangers) in it. 80 guardians, of which 20 are plastic, and the rest are from pre-2nd ed.

I have RTB001 SM in my SM army. As SM grunts and unit fillers. Some of my Devastators are 2nd ed models (even some plastic 2nd starter box missile launcher guys). 8 original Rhino models and a couple of METAL land speeders, too.

I'm cheap, I'll admit it. When new models come onto the market, I'll hunt down the older ones people discard because I will often prefer them.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I have a few old models, like the old soft-cap Stormtrooper heavy weapon squads (those guys used to get some serious auto cannons!) and the old Predator that has the Marine poking out of the top manning the TL Lascannon.

I used to go to Historicon every year (missed 2010, unfortunately) and always loaded up in the flea market on old minis. Here's roughly 1500 points of Crimson Fists from the 80s I picked up. Mind you I have plenty of 2nd ed models too, but I just took pictures of RT era for this time around.

Here's the whole army:

Captain Delgado and his command squad:

Sergeant Rico and his tactical squad:

Sergeant Villa and his rhino-borne tactical squad:

Lead tactical squad - the sergeant may be used as Pedro Kantor at some point in the future:

Techmarine Bob with his Thudd gun (counts-as Thunderfire) and the plasma cannon dreadnought:

My second dreadnought, with what I counts-as an assault cannon:

The Space Hulk Terminator squad, with "Bernie" the heavy flamer Terminator, who earned eternal glory in this battle: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/231337.page

I have two RT-era Predators, some attack bikes and some other units still to paint, but that's a ways off.

Check out my Youtube channel!

I have a bunch of the old metal terminators, 2 all metal dreadnaughts and a few other old figures from when I collected 10 years ago that are finally going into my army now. When I showed the Dread to my coworker who just started playing it blew his mind how heavy the thing was.

I also was rummaging through my bits box and found a bunch of stuff that I forgot I bought. The original Emperor's Champion and a black templar character that I don't even remember with an ax and a combi-melta. There are some good figures in the old school ones, but some that looking back on I just don't like at all like Marnius Calgar.

I agree some of the old minis have terrible scuplts, but they are cool nonetheless. They were crafted at scale by hand by people very involved with the game itself... That's why I like them.
