So, I was on the GW site today, and decided to check out the orks range, specifically the killa kans. Now, I decided to pick up a box, when I noticed it said, underneath the description, "The Ork Killa Kans boxed set is not suitable for customers under 14 years of age"
Any reason for this?

Stupid kids cut themselves on plastic sporks.
Stupid kids are also more likely to choke on bits.
Probably related to various "won't someone think of the children?" protective measures.

Sharp pointy "you could have someone's eye out with that!" claw things?
Contains small parts not suitable for children under 13 (typo)?
Adolescents don't pay attention, mistake Killa Kan for pop (soda) and choke on small parts (see above)?
Killa Kan is not a Dreadnaught. GW can't conceive that teenage kids will actually play with anything other than Space Marines?
Disgruntled (ex) employees parting shot to prevent teenagers spending cash at GW stores?
Erm...
good question
A ten year old at our After School Group has a Killa Kan.
Last I checked he was under 14.

Didn't some country recall the Killa Kans a while back for the reason that kids were cutting themselves on the pointy bits?

IIRC the age warning was something GW had to start doing to conform to a British or EU law regarding product safety.
Whether or not the age warning would be taken as an age restriction would be up to the individual seller. If you're ordering off the GW website I can't imagine you'd have a problem. I can't see GW being concerned about anything other than if your credit card is valid.

Not sure if there are any metal parts in some of the new can kits but in some countries any products containing white metal, pewter or lead have age restrictions and warnings.
Though it's likely related to the game system itself seeing as the game is about killing each other through some very violent and potent means Orks being just one of those means,
some places just have messed up regulations when it comes to violent media of any kind.

It could be to do with that new toy law where all toys for under 12 year olds in the US have to have all sorts of extra safety testing carried out.
I remember Star Wars minis boxes being labelled 12+, nice get out. Parents will still buy them for their kids and the company doesn't have to pay the extra cash on the testing.

Perhaps it is also related to the glue used as well. I mean, your not going to just keep a kan in bitz are you? I mean, it is kinda scary when you know how your lungs work. When you inhale that stuff there is very little filtration for the small particles. It doesn't spend a minute or so floating in the lungs it goes straight to the blood and into you muscles and brain and organs...
On that thought, what is the average life span of a wargamer?

GW has always had an under 14s warning on their models. This used to be mainly for the metal models to stop the kids from eating the lead, but its probably just been passed around the whole range.
It is a standard parental advisory and is, like any other parental advisory, entirely designed to allow GW to deny all responsibility for everything. Making models is an inherently risky process, filled with dangerous chemicals and sharp objects. Killa Kans are no mroe risky than any type of model.

My bf spent a large chunk of time putting together his Killa Kans. I imagine the large number of pieces is why there is an age designation on the box.
If the parent can help the under 14 year old put it together I don't think there would be an issue but I imagine many parents, who are clueless about GW, bought the kit for their 7 year olds and were astonished when the kid couldn't put it together. Hence the 'recommended' age of 14.
