What is your number one favorite (non special character) unit in 40k?

Mine is by far the Thunderhammer/Stormshield Terminator. These models are worth their wieght in gold in close combat, and are extremly resiliant with a 2+/3+ save. They never let me down in games.

Honorable mention would be the Space Marine Land Speeder. It can be outfitted with an unlimited combination of weaponry and is a cheap heavy weapon firebase. These can be customized to fit any SM force and add some great manouverable fire support.

Lone Wolf in terminator armour with a chainfist and a storm shield. Otherwise known as the tank puncher. This gives you a 2+/3++/4+++ and 2D6 against vehicles and Strength 8 against infantry with re-rolls to wound if they are tougness 5 or over or a monstous creature or walker...
Not only is that badass but alos the fluff behind them is pretty damn cool if you ask me.

ANY kind of Lone Wolf. 1 wolf army. Period

Battlewagon. Infinite customizability.

Chaplain, any chapter, I just think the models look cool also rerolling hits on the charge is sexy when combined with (BT) lighting clawed terminators.

6 Flashgitz, 1 painboy, more dakka and cybork. A cheap little sniper unit that most go 'meh' to before it closes in for the crunch.

For looks: The Terminator Chaplain. Easily the coolest looking model in 40k.

For playing: In my army at least, I love Wraiths. I never run a list without them. Fast, ignore terrain, 3+ invulnerable, and WBB? All for only 41 pts. I Love Wraiths.

The Carnifex. Been my favorite since the screamer killer model in 2nd edition. The idea of a living creature designed to simply be a wrecking ball really tickles my fancy. Especially when you can make them a literal wrecking ball.

While landspeeders are fun (the image of 3 racing towards a mob, heavy bolters barking, frag missiles flying, never letting up for one second...), I really like my librarian, any kind. Yeah, that average looking guy there, attached to the regular squad? He just teleported right next to you, then completely roasted your command squad with pyrokinesis.

Madboys. Yes, I know they aren't really units, but it would fun to have a special rule that makes your unit so pants-on-head-slowed that it picks it nose in a firefight, then beats the feth out of the first thing that it thinks stole it's hat.

Penal Squads. Yeah, they are bad, and unpredictable, and they cant really kill anything unless you roll knife fighters and get into CC. But they are just plain cool imho.

Grey Knight terminators.

Str 6 with base initative? yes please!

And with the new codex, 3+ storm shields and ini 4 str 6 power weapons with maybe a thunder hammer added in, plus having 3 attacks base and ws 5, these guys are going to put some hurt on whatever they touch. Sure their expensive, but hell.

Alternatively, add some storm bolters instead of stormshields and their still win, Id use them against orks

20-man crusader squads when you take Accept Any Challenge vow as Black Templars.

Here comes a crap load of power armored, 2 weapon, close-combat owning maynards who hate you and everything you stand for.

The tactical squad. If you want it done, it can get it done for cheaper than anyone else. (Usually)

Infantry Blobs. You can reenact cool bayonet charges like it's WW1, and with certain Characters it starts to become somewhat effective.

my favorite for quite some time has been the imperial priest with eviscerator for 60 (65 in the old guard codex), you can absolutely WRECK anything with a single guardsman. That and they synergize well. Too bad they lost the extra wound though.

A very quickly up-and-coming fav of mine is the chaos lord with mark of khorne and a demon weapon. 125 points for a WS 6 I 5 dude who puts down up to 17 power weapon attacks on the charge? Did somebody order a 1-man bloodbath?

I like Swooping Hawks. They have pretty wings. Mine tend to be on coffee break a lot, but the wings make up for a lot.

20 Storm Guardian squad with a warlock with conceal and an attached Farseer with guide, doom and fortune + stones.

3 units of 3 vibro cannons

Eldar Howling Banshees - love the look of the models, love the idea behind them, and love how effective they are. Even if I don't have an Eldar army myself and always end up on the wrong end of their power weapons.

Trygons. Huge, angry shai-hulud style Tyranids with an awesome bio-electric fields. Whats not to love?

Warboss on a warbike. He's mean, he's green, he keeps the boyz stuck in! Nothing like saying "Yeah, all these battle wagonz and gunz, they're this big mama-jama!" Plus, you can custom make yours. He's gotta be big! Mine is custom built using a rat ogre.

Second best: Nob bikerz, cheese. Indestructable cheese.

My favorite model to play with looks and background wise would be my Inquisitor Lord

My favorite models to play with game wise are either the Callidus or Eversor Assassins.

Looking forward to a new DH or WH codex ASAP (not so competitive in their current state – Hammernators are my best competitive unit).

As far as cool factor its hands down FlashGits. They are super rich Aholes with super guns and just blow gak apart. Awesome.


On the table it quickly became the KFF BigMek. They are incredibly useful and can take a whole slue of junk with them
