Hey,

Just a quick topic to ask: what are you planning to Counts-As/Convert/Bash for Wracks and Grotesques?

Personally, I'm looking at Fantasy VC Ghouls for Wracks? However, Wracks are essentially 'Baby Grotesques', there doesn't seem to be a natural progression as to which Models to use as Grotesques.

Thoughts?

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

My friend was doing the same thing. He used the flagellant legs and torsos (and some heads) and green stuffed the faces to look more... ''Wracky''

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

Well, I am going oddball and doing an Ork army to count-as my Haemonculi list. Should get some raised eyebrows.

More to the topic, I did see was some nifty Rat Ogre conversions for Grotesques over at BoLS (I think). That would be a nice step up from Ghouls, which seem to be a popular choice.

I think WF Ogres with some bitz like helmets and stuff could pass off as grotesques. Maybe rat ogres (although the multipart ones are really ugly while IoB sets are pretty cool if limited to poses) Any more fleshy undead seem like a good base for wracks. Or maybe chaos marauders or flagellates. I might pick up a few mantic ghouls or zombies to buff the numbers out.

Official models will come within 7 months.
Until then, Rackham Dirz models are a fine stand-in.

I made a really simple kit bash for my old Grotesques, I losely based them on the Batman character Bane with a zombie head on an Ork body with wire to make a series of tubes going into their skin. Everything after this was simply a matter of how I painted them.

I just threw together a grotesque this afternoon.

Eldar Guardian legs (Dark Eldar Kabalite Warrior would be better, but I do not have any)

Ork body.

Ork neck cut off and very old Warhammer Regiments elf head grafted on.

Ork arms, with hands removed at the wrist bandages and blades stuck on in their place.

Proportions look wrong, so I need to do some work before I finally glue everything in place, but it works in principle.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

for wraks I'll be using ghoul bodys on KW legs with the reaver heads turned round and then add arms and bits as i see fit

for grotesques, I'll be sticking my head in the ground and waiting for GW to make them or failing that try to make them out of a chaos spawn with a feth load of GS

Honestly its pretty straight forward:

Wracks = ghouls, High Elf archer legs, guitar string, greenstuff, and some plasticard.

Grotesques = Chaos spawn, seriously, just need a bit here a plug there and its done and without having to get pants loads of the Rat Orges.

I'm going to convert a few Grotesques in the manner Ravenous mentioned (started a thread about it a while back, even). I'm kind of at a loss for heads, though.

I like the wracks in the link above. As I'll be needing 30 of them to start, I may just do a bit of kit bashing!

Thanks for posting that link!

Just sand down the spawn heads until its a round ball then add holes, add green stuff here and there, or just use plasticard and greenstuff.

Something alot of people do is forget that you can sand green stuff after its dry.

Not a big fan of that, for the simple fact that I'm no professional sculptor. if I MAKE a head, it's going to look like *I* made the head. I don't want that.
Instead, I'm thinking of trying to get some Wych and/or Reaver heads (the kind with the featureless masks) and use those. I wasn't such a big fan of using small heads with the bodies, at first. When I checked the BoLS link above, it convinced me that it's the right look, though. It also convinced me that I think the Rat Ogres are too big (just IMO) and that I don't want to *F* up the heads (not a big fan of his Wrack heads).

Thanks.
Eric

Spent a little time Wed & a little on Thursday scouring the Spawn sprues for the "right" pieces to use & assembling some of what I found.
I can already see that I'll need to go "outside" the Spawn sprue... but I don't think for much.

I altered one of the heads (almost looks cthulhu, but with a huge, round bottom) by cutting part of it off and filing some extraneous bits away. I think it will make a good helmet.

Altered a second, "Gor" looking head. Not sure if it's going to make a good mask, but we'll see.

I really think the Spawn will make an excellent grotesque, but I think I'm going to pick up some Necrons, to use their spines as "bionic" enhancements, like the metal "spine" looking piece in the codex image.

Does anyone have any ideas I might use? I'm looking for a bit that might be able to double as a via or something, for stimm injectors. The pic looks like they have various vials attached. I'd like to replicate that.
I'm sure I can do it with plasticard & elbow grease, but I'd rather incorporate bits.

I'll get a pic posted, once I have him completely assembled.

Thanks.

Eric

I am currently using the old Grotesque models as Wracks. No idea what to do for Grotesques though; probably wait for the official model should it appear.

Well, although the sculpts are a bit... underwhelming... they're the right size for it, at least.
So, good call there.

You should check out the plastic spawn models.
Compare one to the image in the codex. There's a lot if similarity.

Yeah I thought that and I have a couple of spawn spare but the only thing holding me back is that the spawn sculpts kind of strike me as brainless whereas I think the grotesques are supposed to be a little more of an autonomous threat.

Eric, take a look at the conversions in the first pics for some ideas:

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=279364&page=3

The guy who made them points out they are imperial conversion, but with dark eldar bits they could be spot on for grotesques. I especially like the old chaos mutations heads on them.

For the holes in the back of the spawn I would use plasticard and make injectors similar to the renegade ogryns from FW:

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games
