I just got done playing a severely abbreviated game against a tau player. I had a great time and learned a lot about these guys. You can read my report here: Gone to Ground.

I would love to hear comments and thoughts. Thanks!

I'm curious as to how experienced your opponent was with his Tau because taking 9 battlesuits and not using them is just well.......stupid. Hopefully you will be able to play against a Tau player who at least seems to know how to use his forces.

Anways congrats on your win, I think you did exactly what a Space Wolf player should have done (it's what I would have done). At first I was unsure who to cheer for because Space Wolves and Tau where my first armies so that being the case GO ORKS!!!!

That being said don't think Tau will be so easy to beat every time. I once played a gunline Tau army without a single vehicle against a Drop Pod Space Wolf army used by someone who'd played twice as long as me and won.

But either way good job

'grats on the notch in the win colum, but as stated previously, I would be cautious the next time you play against Tau. Those suits should have been a lot more deadly than they were.

Oh I totally agree. The player seemed rather new or perhaps just new to Tau. He deployed his suits very poorly and it cost him their effectiveness.

I was also very lucky to knock out a good 5-600pt of his army in turn 2.

Tau is pretty good if done right. He had the list. It just didn't seem as if he had the experience.

I once played Tau with 6 broad sides and a railhead for his heavies. On turn 1, I dropped 2 squads of grey hunters with 2 rune priests right next to them. Since they were lined up, I proceeded to jaws both units. Needless to say, he lost all his broadsides without firing even a single shot from them. Brutal. This is almost just as bad.

Yeah. My rune priest never got close enough to jaws anything, but I have heard that it is a huge asset against Tau.

That's why I get at least 1 drop pod for my space wolf army - in the case I go up against tervigons, broadsides or other such high value, low initiative units. If not, then I just deploy the RP and his grey units normally and drop an empty drop pod. They can also drop and double-melta a high-priority tank. The drop pod is also good in playing follow the leader with death company on foot.

SW vs tau is a one sided battle almost any day. Crisis suits are great... but even 5 GH with a pf will wreck them once they're in CC. Even great tau players have a rough time; too many targets to kill, weak in CC, and their only reliable light anti-tank options are broadsides or suits. Most games become take down the suits/sides = win.

Either way, your opponent definitely needs more experience lol
