What have you done to promote our hobby?

Most of us enjoy it, be it the game mechanics, the models or the fluff. We had someone who introduced us to it and it inspired us.

I'm the teacher/sponsor o our Science Fiction/Fantasy club at our school. In addition to the usual fare of Sci Fi movies (you'd be amazed how many 12 year olds have never seen Star Wars), we play lots of games, talk about books and bring some of our own fiction. We meet once a week.

It was a perfect opportunity for me to show case my armies and many of the boys and quite a few girls have taken an interest in it. (We actually have more girls than boys showing up to meetings)

They don't have much disposable income so I let them play with my armies and for the kids who do have a unit or to (mostly high schoolers) we have paint days while the others are watching movies.

I want to know, Dakkites, what have you done to spread what we do to others?

I wash regularly and wear deoderant on occasion.

All jokes aside, I am a Press Ganger and so run demos and events for Privateer Press
on a volunteer basis.

Im a Henchmen for malifaux, I run events and tournements. I'm also involved with a group called NJ Gamer we run events at stores and conventions.

On Friday, I'm teaching my friend to play Warhammer at our work's happy hour. Hopefully, it becomes a regular thing and we can get more people involved.

I keep dragging noobs along to Historicon and Cold Wars conventions. Sometimes they come back all by themselves.

I love the look on their faces when they see the panoramic view of the dealers area there for the first time.

While not a Press Ganger (St. Louis has... six? Seven?) I do run demos a lot. Haven't really bothered with events, as we've got enough people around here to handle them without my help. That, and I work Saturdays. :/

Though still relatively new to the hobby myself, I organize most of the 40k games in my local club, and I am currently running an escalation league to bring in the 1st years and any other new members of the club so that more people play and enjoy 40k. That and to get people to paint their , myself included. My club also helps to promote spaceship combat games in our club and at the FLGS by running games of Full Thrust, BFG, and Firestorm Armada.

I started a gaming group that more or less disintegrated, but I got two buddies into the game. I also made a bunch of crappy Flash cartoons about 40k that have gotten some Internet notoriety.

I started and ran a 40k club after school in junior-highschool many years back. It was really successful at first and we had about 30 members attending every meeting. We'd play games and tournaments and such. Mum even provided snacks for the group.

Sadly, after the first year a new "sister" school opened up and half the students were forced to leave so we lost many of our members then. Still, we kept playing. The club ended after I moved on, but it was fun while it lasted.

I'm a self styled Kor Phaeron amongst those that I know, corrupting them to the true faith one by one.

I am so beautiful that when people see me in a GW shop they want to come in....

In all seriousness when my non-wargamng friends have looked at my models I have told them about the hobby and if they how interest I have invited them round for a game with some pizzas and beer and now they are more wargaming friends.

Ive got 1 friend into the hobby succesfully for a summer.

Its hard to promote the hobby because it appeals to a very unique person.

The entry cost doesn't make it any easier to "sell" to potential players.

Seriously though, I write a monthly article on the happenings at my wargaming club in the local rag.

I've introduced warhammer 40k and fantasy to over 50 people. My excact count of the people who started to play because of me are 51.

Being in the overly-testosterone filled infantry it's hard to promote anything that doesnt involve beer drinking and poon crushing at the same time, but I have seemed to get at least one guy in my platoon interested.
