wow, that looks nice. Was the streaky effect achieved just by twisting it, or with knifework?

Also, did that seriously take an entire $20 thing of GS to make, or is is hollow on the inside?

Thanks for the comments guys I haven't seen the thing actually...

I started off with a little Nurgle-esque flying grub-maggot thing that I was working on and couldn't find any suitable wings for. It sat on my shelf for over a year before I finally cut it in half and then started on this beast.

I did use most of one tube of GS. If I hadn't built up an armature of wire and then covered that with clay I definitely would've used 2 or 3 tubes to make this thing. It's about 3mm thick of GS all over.

The striations in the skin are actually sculpted - I have a sharp pointed sculpting tool that has a kindof arrow head shaped blade that I used to sculpt in the lines. The whole worm length was done in about 7 sessions where I would sculpt a bit and then let it dry enough to handle. You can probably make out some slight mix discolourations in the sculpt where the slightly different mixtures have a slightly bluer or yellower tinge to them

The more I look at the current incarnation the more I like it; I was kindof loathe to add the extras to the worm body because it looked so cool on its own but I succumbed to the fluff and added the extras

That's a really awesome job. You don't see many people actually paying attention to the "blind cave worm" bit of the fluff when they model it, but I'd say you pulled that part off in spades, and the rest is worked in quite well too. I'm a big fan of the rat ogre head on the end of the tongue-thing, but I think it could maybe use a bit more GS work to blend that in more fully. Then again, a good paint job could fix that up too.

Oh I like that, excellent job.

To me it looks like a Master moulder chopped off a rat's tail, tossed it behind him, but it accidently landed into a potent Warpstone brew tank. Then over time it has morphed into this monstrosity.

Love it! Similar to a planned build I had for a spikey giant chaos spawn....you could easily use that model in a 40k game as well. Love the smooth organic look you got on the GS. Gives me ideas for my own builds, which IMO is the whole point of Dakka.

Oh, pft, 'nid bits on a chaosy build.....for shame! Only madmen attempt that!

P.S. I see that you too have made good use of the zillions of excellent bitz leftovers from a Carnifex.

I like it. It actually looks more like the fluff than the picture in the book does. I think it needs to be bigger, though. And the rat ogre heads need to be molded on better. They just kind of look stuck on, and not in the "I'm a Master Moulder and I just stitched some rat ogre heads onto this guy" way.

Yeah I'm not entirely satisfied with the heads, but I don't have any ideas on how to mold them in better. Something I'm still thinking about.

I was playing around with some griffin wings today and I'm sorta liking this idea - but I can't decide if I should or not...what do you guys reckon:

IMO those wings look extremely mismatched on the body. Be great if you were modeling a Tzeentch spawn or greater, but it kind of rapes the "disgusting, oozing, crawling, mewling" vibe I got off it before.

That being said, a nice looking blended paint job of crazy colors never looks bad on chaos stuff.

The way you are going with this....it's looking like the thing could serve as a greater deamon or even a DP. Rockin!

Yeah I'm thinking the same - if I could find some more suitable wings it would fit. The idea looks cool but it fits more of a Tzeentch type changeling if I use the feathered wings. I was thinking I could sculpt some random feathers on it but it's too mismatched in style. The lines it draws up with the overall model improves it - but I need to use something more "cohesive".

And that helps to account for the 3d6" movement rate too

You could source some large bat wings from the Daemon Prince plastic kit, or a small pair of dessicated runty wings (although they are sized kinda small for that mini) from the Chaos Spawn plastic kit. If you'd like pics of some wings to check sizes I can put em up.Also, clipping the wings of a backpack from the Possessed plastic kit might be pretty viable and would fit nicely with the Lovecraftian vibe you've got so far.

Noticed you had a comment about difficulty with the head....there are something like 10 REALLY messed up gnar gnar heads in the Spawn kit. Its 30 bones well spent if you use alot of really disgusting parts.

Large wings from a DP kit, backpack on the left is unmodified from Possessed kit, and the red parts on the final backpack are the 2 dessicated wings from the Spawn kit.
