Welcome to Lamby's continually evolving Ork blog!

Inspirations:
- Forge World Modelling Masterclass book, most notably the dioramas,
- Grey Death's Sons of Medusa BLOG, particularly the weathering and painting techniques,

(As of August 2012) Da Nu Ork PLAN: A squad of (mostly) Black Orc's converted to 'Ard Boyz and a War Machine (of some as yet unknown description...)

The bases will be industrial 40k with big pipes and lots of metal junk, for two reasons:
- left over sprue makes excellent piles of junk,
- and pipes are relatively easy to build!

Cheers,

Lamby - sounds interesting - look forward to seeing how you go about solving some of the modelling problems.

What size are you making the diorama?

Acronym check - TS Alpha Legion? (Alpha Legion = Chaos chapter, but TS? Storm Shield/Thunder Hammer? Brain's not working.)

The Alpha Legion and orks battled?

Pics or it didn't happen!

Sounds like you've got all the parts planned out, I'm interested in seeing how this develops

kajh - thanks for posting!

TS = true scale... bigger marines are easier for old eyes to paint!!!
(If you hold your cursor over the acronym's Dakka will show you the meanings... except I just tried it on TS and it comes up with toxin sacs!)

Diorama size - if I can I want to fit it into a Pelican case about the size of a briefcase but deeper... that may be ambitious with this many models!!!

Accolade - thanks for posting!

(NOTE: Due to a whole range of reasons my TS Alpha Legion are being re-converted to Black Templars.)

Basically I picked Orks because they are relatively easy to make a bit bigger to match the scale of the bigger Marines.

Pics soon!

I can't wait to see some WIP pics. It sounds like a great project, and I like where you are drawing inspiration from, I too have been inspired by Migsula's blogs... and hobby books.

The Good Green - thanks!

Along with Hortwerth's Krieg-themed Orks, your expanding Bigtoof project helped me decide to use Orks as the enemy - that and the fact that a Kroot looked like a stick-figure next to my half-completed TS Marine No#1!!!

Glory to the Twelfth! Glory to Angron!

‎"Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

CalasTyphon216 - Yes - though one of the themes behind this project is 'Don't buy it - Use the bitz box!', though of course this is not always the case!

Rose_Mountainz - Thanks!

Boss 'eadbreaka - Thanks... and no, I have no idea when I'll finish - didn't someone once say the journey is more than half the fun?

Bought a box of Burna's and Loota's as I have enough converting to do with the Mecha-Nob and the Blork 'Ard Boyz and the Space Marines!!!

Edit - Mecha-Nob has gone to visit Gork and Mork and won't be returning, except in bits, so I've removed the pics.

On a side note, I took advice from Migs/Apologist and all those other GS gurus out there, and finally bought some clay/color shapers and they make manipulating GS sooo much better!

So the more I worked on the Mecha-Nob the more I realised that the focus of this project has momentarily slipped more towards the Orks than the Marines, when it's really the Alpha Legion I want to be working on.

To that end I secured a box of Loota's and Burna's today - the Burna's are going to be basically unconverted except to make them a few mm taller with leg spacers, and the Loota weaponry will be held in reserve for use with the 2nd squad of converted Blorks, who I'm thinking will make cool heavily armed Kommandos coming out of pipes and junk surrounding the Marines.

And so onwards with the first Blork-convert who will now be the Warboss, and building the Burna's... hopefully that'll turn off the Orky urges and let me get back to the Alpha Legion.

Somebody's been reading up on true scaling!!!!!!

Interesting that you made the cut in the calf area instead of GSing a tiny bit of height into the waist join. Works nicely though, plus the GS work covers the join.

agroskiewicz - Thanks for the comments - yes, I am a True Scale fan... mostly due to the work of Migsula's Alpharuis trio, Apologist's Praetors of Calth and Doghouse's World Eaters - and I like the idea of having bigger Marines than everyone else in my local GW!

The cuts were made directly above the boot to hide my yet-too emerge GS skills.

Ork WIP pics:

Blorks to 'Ard Boyz...

Blork to Warboss - meet Boss Meat!
(Inspired by the Uncle Meat sculpture vid tutorials from Miniature Mentor.)
He's been shaved at the front to make room for his weapon.
Yet to receive GS to fix the leg and headkicker stompy boot conversions.

Boss Meat with new arms blue-tacked in place.
Upper arms from the Ork Nob two-handed chain weapon.
Forearms from various Blork arms, sans weaponry
He's going to be holding a monstrous chain saw weapon which will hide the shave job on the armour, and bigger shoulder plates to bulk him out side ways.

There's a fourth Blork but he's in surgery at the moment - his name is Spart-Ork and soon you'll see why.

With the Blorks I'll be using smaller heads, mostly Storm Boyz - (tip of the hat to Migsula for the idea.)
The Burna Boyz will be using standard Burna heads, because they are just plain cool!

Boss Meat WIP:
- Head-stomperised the boots - they might need Ork-teeth on them - Any suggestions Dakka?
- greenstuffed the Nob legs at the hips + attempted sculpting chain mail - it will mostly be hidden by his chain saw weapon

Arrias - Thanks! All my techniques are borrowed from Migsula, Doghouse and Apologist - I claim no originality what-so-ever!

As for the FW Imperial Armour Model Masterclass Vol One book:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Modelling-Supplies/IMPERIAL-ARMOUR-MODEL-MASTERCLASS-VOLUME-ONE.html

Mine was last year's Christmas present (thoughtful wife!) via mail-order, though I have recently seen this book for sale in a local GW.

Arrias - Thanks for asking!

Been throwing a Blood Ravens force together for my son to play at local GW over Christmas (see http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/334237.page#2238227)

But also an update on Da Boss Meat:

- GS sculpted a meat-worker style apron over armour front
- blue-tacked arms into position - does he need bigger armour pads?
- scratch-built chainsaw engine - is it orky enough?
- notice 2 different blades - which one is better, tapered (shorter one in upper right pic) or fat longer one?
- also noticed just how far out the neck on a blork protrudes - that neck is for some choppin'!

Comments appreciated!

Awesome stuff!! Youve really done a great job with the greenstuff, and the Boss looks really well done.

Im a huge fan of the big chainsaw. Ill admit when I was reading through here and saw all that shaving, I was a bit skeptical how it would work. But seeing him all assembled, it looks absolutely stellar!

I definitely say go for the fatter, longer blade (twin chainswords) as to me, that seems like the most Orky thing to do. the other just seems too short to be menacing enough.

As to the engine, It looks plenty orky to me! Just a bit of integration to the blade when you decide which youre gonna use, and it'll be great. Paint is where the final bit of orky-ness will come through.

Keep up the excellent work, and Im definitely gonna stick around to see how this goes. Almost makes me want to try a TS marine, but I know how abysmal my gs skills are
